1. Explanation of terms:

German head of state: a position established between 1871 and 1945. The head of state exercises power on behalf of the cabinet.

Munich Agreement:
On September 29-30, 1938, the four heads of Britain, France, Germany, Italy (Chamberlain, Daraday, Hitler, Mussolini) signed the Munich Agreement in Germany. Britain and France sent the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia to Germany. In exchange for a brief peace.

Baker Braukelle Beer Hall:

On November 9, 1923, the Nazi Party launched an armed coup in the tavern, which is expected to overthrow the Weimar Republic. In the end, the Nazi coup was arrested and Hitler was convicted of treason and imprisoned for 5 years. In prison, Hess assisted Hitler in writing "My Struggle". This book promoted the development of the Nazis.

After 1933, Hitler would give a speech in this pub on November 8th every year to commemorate the beer hall coup.

Ps. November 9th was the day when the Berlin Wall fell. It was also the day of the beer hall coup and Crystal Night. Therefore, the German National Day is set as the day when East Germany joins West Germany, November 3.

Red Front Soldiers League:
An organization led by the German Communist Party in the Weimar Republic of Germany. It defended the interests of the working class and often clashed with the Nazi Party. In 1929, the SS arrested and shot its members, and all assets were confiscated. After the Nazis came to power in 1933, more members were arrested and sent to the death charge.

Arthur Nebe, the warden of the German Empire:
He joined the Nazi SS on July 1, 1931 and was later appointed as the warden. Said to participate in the Holocaust. In his later years, on July 20, 1944, he negotiated with Hitler on behalf of the anti-war. He was involved in an anti-government riot on January 16, 1945, and was executed by his subordinates on March 3, 1945.

2. Timeline of events in the movie:

October 8, 1923: Hitler preparing for a coup in the beer hall

January 30, 1933: Hitler was elected head of state

September 1,

1939 : March into Poland. September 3, 1939: Britain and France declared war on Germany.

October 8, 1939: Elser assassination of Hitler.

July 20, 1944: Multi-person assassination of Hitler.

March 3, 1945: Warden Arthur Nebe was executed.

May 9, 1945: Elser was shot at Dachau Concentration Camp.

May 29, 1945: U.S. Army liberated Dachau Concentration Camp.

August 1945 8th: Germany announced its surrender, and World War II ended.

Sitting in the cinema, the big screen was dark, a man's heavy breathing sounded in his ears, and then the camera zoomed in, Elser knelt by a wall, nervously equipped with a self-detonation device.

The whole film uses a montage to describe the process of Elser placing explosives and being arrested and executed by the SS. Interspersed with memories of his youth and middle-aged life, he tells the story of his mind.

3. Several connections in the film:

3.1. At the beginning of the film, Hitler gave a speech in the beer hall, and the SS handed over a note that read: The plane cannot take off normally. Due to changes in transportation, Hitler left 13 minutes earlier than usual and escaped the assassination. The bomb exploded at 21:20, leaving 120-150 people in the tavern, 8 people were killed, 16 people were seriously injured, and 47 people were slightly injured.

3.2. Elser hopes to leave Germany as soon as possible after placing the explosives bag. At 20:45 on the night of the assassination, he tried to flee to Switzerland and was arrested by the SS on the border with Germany. He has a floor plan of the beer hall in his pocket, the pass has expired, and the badge of the Red Front Warrior League is pinned on his chest. He had a deep wound on his knee, caused by kneeling on the ground for a long time and installing explosives.

3.3. The movie returns to the scene of Elsser's first love. Elsser's first love, now sitting next to him, recording the SS sentence, listening to his screams of torture.

3.4. Motivation for the assassination: He believed that Hitler would bring misfortune and destruction to Germany. Workers’ wages would decrease and taxes would increase. In 1929 the carpenter was 1 mark per hour, and now (1933) it is 68 cents per hour. Workers are under surveillance and cannot change jobs at will. A large number of young people were recruited, and the children who joined the Nazi Youth League no longer knew their parents. Even religious belief is no longer free. Faced with the interrogation, Elsser repeated over and over again: "It must be done, Hitler must die, he will bring misfortune and disaster to Germany."

Around 1933, the Nazi Party had just been in power, and it was in full swing, almost all holidays. People gathered together to bless Hitler and the head of state. Elser represented a group of Germans in the Nazi period, soberly aware that Hitler's campaigns would bring serious consequences, and struggled for it.

If Hitler leaves 13 minutes late; if the bomb explodes 13 minutes early, Elser can change the world. Unfortunately, there is no if.
