Trivial feelings

First of all, I would like to thank PR for inviting volunteers from gender human rights organizations to watch the play. LOL

French director François Ozon's "I Want to...17" (Jeune & jolie) was released at the Hong Kong Summer International Film Festival in 2013. His latest work " "Girlfriend's Girlfriend" (Une nouvelle amie) will meet with the audience at this year's Hong Kong International Film Festival. This set of works is adapted from a short story by British crime novelist Ruth Rendell. Ozon presents the protagonist’s exploration, suppression, performance of his gender, and the confusing relationship between the two to the audience.

After reading it, my friends and I said that the heroine Claire has always admired her good friend Laura, so all she fell in love with was David who was dressed as a woman. The most obvious proof is the scenes where Claire and David go to the vacant mansion of Laura's house. One night, she and David had dinner in the mansion. Although the atmosphere was very good, Claire suddenly emphasized to David that he should no longer dress up as a woman and can no longer make the game normal. This is the second time that Claire has stern words to David. Judging, David was obviously injured. After dinner, she went back to her room and went to bed. Suddenly someone walked into her room. The camera only showed the person's hand moving up and down her body. Claire was nervous but as expected. When the audience thought it would be David's "night attack," Claire turned around and the camera shot Laura into the camera, and the two kissed passionately on the bed. However, the audience knows that Claire has died of illness, so only by describing this scene as Claire's illusion of Laura's ongoing existence can the appearance of this scene be reasonably explained. And if this statement is true, then Claire's criticism of David may also be a reflection of her suppressing her desires, because she can find Laura's shadow in David, and she does not allow herself to have emotions other than friendship with Laura, so David shouldn't either. Make behaviors that “contrary to mainstream moral values” of being easy to obey.

Another proof is that the two of them went to a gay-friendly bar near the mansion. They were dancing on the dance floor, and suddenly a girl who looked like TB approached Claire and became very interested in her. Claire also tried to dance with her, and seemed to enjoy having such sexual contact with girls. All this shows that she has no resistance to the fact that she can attract women, and even enjoys it.

The protagonist Romain Duris has impeccable acting skills, depicting the temperament spectrum of men and women. And this interpretation is not limited to more superficial things such as clothing, manners, and conversation. Romain Duris can also control David and Virginia in different psychological states, making the audience feel that they are both very three-dimensional characters, just like Romain Duris is in reality. A male to female lesbian.

The scene that impressed me the most was the reunion of David and Claire dressed as Virginia in the hotel. David unreservedly invited Claire to bed and said that everyone should stop pretending. Everyone has this need in their bodies. In the series of actions of undressing, caressing, and kissing between him and Claire, there was tenderness and affection everywhere. Although he also desires to have more intimate contact with Claire's body, he is not as rude and impatient than ordinary men. He seems to be a pair of lesbians in front of the screen. Even though David has a chest pad on his body and a wig on his head, these external things will not hinder the audience from feeling the subtle atmosphere of the two lesbians. And when Claire categorically refused to keep intimacy with him and threw the sentence "You are a man" severely, the wounded expression on David's face and the big teardrops that came very timely made people feel David's pain completely, as if he heard it. The sentence in his heart, "People are obviously a woman, why do you insist that your old lady is a man?!" Hey, I really want to step forward and touch his head.

Finally, some of the puzzles of the movie are, why are some of the plots so happy? And some important plots seem to have been gently brought along? For example, David woke up after hearing Claire singing in the hospital. The camera showed David slowly rising up from the electric bed in the hospital. I couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Should I love you as a man or a woman who is biased towards men or women? Gender is the spectrum, so is love, for Dave, and for Claire. Such discussions break down the gay/heterosexual binary, where ambiguity is desired, but security can only be achieved with certainty. I feel that Ou Rong has gone farther than Almodovar, and is comparable to the masterpiece of "Tell Her", which is concise, powerful, and full of fragrance.
