Films adapted from novels are usually not completely restored, so the director should make some choices in the process of adapting, focusing on one of the points. But after watching the movie, I really can't get what Arnold wants to express?
First of all, the wit of wolves is not well reflected in the movie. In the scenes where wolves are dispatched, most of the wolves do not see any strategy. Most of them wait aside and then attack suddenly, giving a few chasing shots and those who bit their prey. Close up hastily. The biggest chasing horse in the scene is nothing more than chasing, biting and pulling the horse rod, which is more of the ferocity of the wolf. There are also little wolves who have almost no wolfishness. They have become docile and docile. They are really cute, but they completely obliterate the theme of wolf's wildness.
Then there is environmental protection. The pastures are not suitable for farming, and the grasslands are the destiny. All these complicated things are covered in just one or two lines. Bao Shungui led the Mongolian people from outside to open up wasteland, took the lead in fighting the wolves, and did not explain the ending. He simply couldn't make up a theme.
Finally, the director is good at it, which should be the focus of man-wolf friendship. This is supposed to be the most touching part of the movie, but it is very plain. The hardship of raising coyotes is only due to the opposition of herders, and the observation and love of coyotes are only small actions such as touching the coyotes and kissing him. . All I saw was a crazy educated youth who wanted to raise a wolf, not
a person who fell in love with wolves.
However, these problems are also related to the fragmentation of the original story, the too long individual monologue, and the lack of story content. The original work is not very good, and poor adaptation is not the unilateral responsibility of the director and the screenwriter. I hope that in the future, the film adaptation of this large-scale novel will have some focus...
