The dream of a lonely

Today I watched the movie with the director of the film in the archive. Under her lens, the desolate and barren African land was full of mysterious and dangerous power and beauty. The white sandy beaches covered by salt crystals and the sea like sapphires, soldiers naked in the scorching sun swing their arms like a ritual, swim with knives on the seabed, the pictures of the staggered bodies are unforgettable. The whole movie is filled with religious music and secret emotional monologues. The last solo dance, the male protagonist's gloomy and mad look and posture, shook my heart strongly, like a ball of flame, the less it became, the more intense it was, and finally it slammed out. Claire said that everyone can understand this story as a person's dream. She loves the actor very much. She originally set him to drink a bomb and die at the end, but in the end she was reluctant to dance and let him dance to exhaustion like death.

    1. Too obscure, too slow, too drama-free, too routine. That's the woman's perspective, even in the male barracks. 2. Restrained, soothing, the scenery is so beautiful. At one point I thought it was the same director as Meek's Cutoff, which I watched yesterday, and it was a small group of human behavior observations in a near-vacuum state.

Although I don't quite understand the director's meaning, it can be seen that it is a masterpiece. Lenses and pictures are beautiful. free to watch again

Beau travail quotes

  • Commander Bruno Forestier: [subtitled version]

    [in Russian]

Commander Bruno Forestier: Why did you join the Legion?

Legionnaire: [in Russian] Commandant, you know what it's like in Russia. No money, no work. I was in the army there for two years. I fought for Russia. But it's impossible to fight just for an ideal. An ideal that just keeps changing. You know what I mean?

Commander Bruno Forestier: [in Russian] What ideal?

  • Galoup: [subtitled version] Maybe freedom begins with remorse. Maybe freedom begins with remorse. I heard that somewhere.
