"Horror Live": Victory by drama and performance

I once commented that He Zhengyu's "Berlin" is a small work with an international background. By the way, I complained about the pattern of Korean movies. Unexpectedly, within half a year, he overturned my judgment with another "Horror Live".

For a 90-minute movie, there is only a soothing pavement for about 2 minutes at the beginning, and then it enters a high-energy mode that makes the audience feel emotionally tense throughout. The well-known host accidentally received a warning of a terrorist attack on an early morning radio program. In order to attract viewers and satisfy his personal desires, he boldly broadcast the warning of the crime on TV. However, the progress of the incident was completely beyond expectation. After the criminals asked the President to apologize publicly, the whole situation ran out of control. Such a story is not complicated, and it is difficult to logically construct a space where individuals are confronted with state power. Therefore, as an individual criminal, he hides behind the scenes as an unpredictable voice, but presents a terrorist crime that "controls everything and has great destructive power". The possible action scenes are thus transferred to a large dialogue, drama composition The pros and cons of Ben and the actor's performance have become the key to the success or failure of the film. As a young director born in the 1980s, Jin Bingyu handed in a good answer, and He Zhengyu, who was almost alone in the lead, once again gave an extremely brilliant performance.

During the entire process of the incident, 90% of the content took place in a narrow and closed live broadcast studio, and only a few characters appeared. The main channel for the protagonist to communicate with the outside world was a live phone, and the TV monitoring in the director's room The picture constitutes the extension of the scene. It is in this almost enclosed space that the director has a good grasp of the details and rhythm, which makes the audience's emotions unconsciously driven by the plot. The rhythm is constantly accelerating under the impetus of the dialogue, and the story is written with twists and turns, which makes the protagonist From his full self-confidence at the beginning to a passive panic of helplessness, to the struggling to attack after insight into the truth, to the final decisive choice, his attitude and purpose have undergone a 180-degree change. As the anti-criminal predictor, although he demonstrated sufficient deterrence and control, he stated his identity and purpose at the very beginning. During this period, he was not as calm and determined as an ordinary high-IQ criminal, with various mood swings and attitude changes. Almost synchronized with the protagonist on the dark line, even if the lack of physical performance space makes the role unexpectedly clear and clear, the situation of confrontation was deployed unconsciously.

In the course of the confrontation between the two, a group of high-level TV station officials, ex-wife reporters, counter-terrorism captains, police chiefs and other figures filled in the gaps, constantly enriching the background and character of the protagonist in the drawing of the multi-party relationship, which made the host like this. A character trades for more space to be depicted in a limited time, so it is more three-dimensional and real. At the same time, as the plot progresses, the image of the criminal as the evil person gradually fades, and his lonely, helpless but desperate state gradually replaces the criminal image of the perpetrator of terrorist crime. It turns out that what the director really wants to criticize is the superior state power and the profit-seeking society. Such a perspective is of course not new, but when it comes to the attitude and degree of the accusation, "Terror Live" is more decisive and thorough than its predecessors. What is commendable is that this kind of antipathy and irony to authority is not a concept-first implantation, but a step-by-step plot to guide the audience's attitude. The so-called moisturizing is silent.

"Horror Live" embodies the eclectic theme and form of the current Korean movies, and the young director's energetic attitude makes people feel the vitality of it. It is certainly not a perfect work. There have been many movies of the same type in Hollywood. Some of the details in the movie can't stand careful scrutiny. The director simply avoided the feasibility and reality of the realization of the crime, and just made a fuss about the accumulation of emotions and the changes in the state of the characters. In the end, the released emotions completely replaced the entanglement of logic, and the outstanding performance made the success of the play.

If you put aside the special effects of bridge explosions and building collapses that are just icing on the cake, the production cost of the movie should be quite low (the total investment is about 20 million yuan). And just such a low-cost movie mobilized more than 5.5 million audiences to enter the venue. The price-performance ratio is even higher than that of Feng Junhao's annual masterpiece "Snow Country Train", which gathered a group of international stars in the same period. The movie is like a bottle of Erguotou, cheap and beautiful. Although it is not suitable for careful evaluation, it is full of energy and hot and enjoyable.

It is still worth discussing the angle and ending of "Horror Live", although the theme of "anti-authority" has always been a panacea for getting popular cheers. However, putting aside the ability itself, imagine for a moment that if public power easily compromises with anti-social behavior, then the authority will be dispelled, and the system and structure will collapse invisibly. Whether it is worthwhile to trade such a price for a micro-justice, at least the answer is not as straightforward and straightforward as the movie gives. As for the final destruction that accompanies the stimulating music, this ending is beyond many people's expectations, and even some viewers have a trace of anti-climax pleasure. However, just as the movie blamed the criminals, when they vented happily, how did they consider the lives and thoughts of other people? If the roles are reversed, what choice will they have to make? And if it was you in front of the screen, holding the blasting switch in your hand, would it be a different ending? The complexity of human nature, even if you ask yourself, there may not be a real answer until such moments.
