In 1931, the Spanish monarchy was replaced by a republic. Fernando (Jorge Sanz), a deserter from the Madrid army, is interrogated by two guards while fleeing. Among them, the veteran decided to let him go, but the younger soldier felt that he did not agree with the order. The two began to argue, and Fernando learned that they were Weng-in-law. Later, the son-in-law beat his father-in-law to death by mistake and regretted suicide by drinking a bomb. Seeing this situation, the frightened Fernando fled in a hurry. He met the wandering artist Manoro (Fernando Fernán Gómez) during the night. Before leaving, Manolo decided to send him a ride and pick up his daughter at the station by the way. When Fernando saw his four beautiful daughters, he decided to find an excuse to stay. He had an emotional entanglement with these four women, which led to a farce that makes people laugh...
The film won the 66th Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and defeated the Chinese film "Farewell My Concubine".
