After reading Zhang Yimou's "Judou" and Liu Heng's "Fuxi Fuxi", I have some opinions on this movie and literary work. Since "Judou" is adapted from "Fuxi Fuxi", let's talk about this literary work first.
I have to say that Liu Heng's "Fuxi Fuxi" is really good.

On the other hand, dialogue and psychological description enriched the story, making it feel flesh and blood after reading it. Speaking of this, just insert a few words. There are very few psychological descriptions in Su Tong's "Wife and Concubine". After reading the two stories, you will find that "Wife and Concubine" seems to be just a pile of bones on the human body, while "Fuxi Fuxi" It's obvious that there is flesh and blood. Of course, this is an advantage, but at the same time, the disadvantage is that the theme is not very obvious.
After talking about Liu Heng's "Fuxi Fuxi", now let's talk about Zhang Yimou's "Judou". In fact, this film by Zhang Yimou is quite a big adaptation of the original work.
First of all, the theme is more clear. After reading "Ju Dou", everyone will obviously feel that the social hierarchy and Gangchang ethics under the feudal forces are so oppressive and persecuted to human nature. Ju Dou and Yang Tianqing put in so much effort, and even their lives did not escape the clutches of fate.
Secondly, it is color. An important feature of Zhang Yimou's film is the use of color. The first half of the tone is red, and the back becomes blue-gray. When the two are happy together, vent their sexual desires, and imagine a good life, they are red. When Yang Jinshan is in charge and the day is called Father Yang Jinshan, the tone is dark. In other words, when Yang Tianqing and Judou were fighting feudal forces, ethical principles, and pursuit of freedom, the director agreed and was delighted, and gave them a beautiful vision. But the director himself understands that in such a society and in such an era, such things are impossible to happen.
Again, another major feature of Zhang Yimou's films is that he is good at using intentions. Here are five intentions. The first one, everyone remember the big red cloth. When Yang Tianqing and Judou had sex for the first time, the big red cloth continued to fall into the pool from a height. The fifth is Tian Bai. Tian Bai finally killed his father. What does it mean? It shows that Tianbai has also become the defender and executor of the Gangchang Etiquette. It is not a great irony that the son killed his father. This shows that in this society, no one wants to challenge ethics, no one wants to challenge feudalism. There is only one consequence of disobedience, which is death.
Finally, it is compared with the original work, and there are many changes, such as Yang Tianqing's age. There is a flaw in the original work that the relationship between Yang Tianqing and Judou was slowly accumulated during the long-term relationship, which is reasonable and logical. In the film, it seems a bit abrupt. When you read the original work, you will find it is full, but watching the film is very thin. But the theme is more obvious.

Su Tong's "Wife and Concubine Groups" and Liu Heng's "Fuxi Fuxi", these two novels can be said to have their own merits, Zhang Yimou's film is more inclined to show the theme, and "Judou" is the feudal ethics of "Fuxi Fuxi". The squeeze is vividly displayed, and the theme is more clearly displayed. The same is true of "Raise the Red Lantern", which is adapted from "Wives and Concubines". However, it is obvious that the prominence of the themes in the two original works is not so focused and obvious, which is more prominent and focused in Zhang Yimou's film.
