Their Germany, whose Turkey

I asked my Turkish classmates and realized that Almanya means German in Turkish.
Personally, I like this movie very much, although many people in the latter half say that there is the shadow of the road movie of "Little Girl in the Sunshine"-looking for myself on the road. But as far as the concept of the two movies is concerned, I obviously prefer Almanya to discuss people’s attitudes when facing two cultures, Turkish culture and German culture. How can a family that has settled in Germany for more than 40 years face their own cultural belonging? A piece of nationality can really "reform" themselves like the old mother's wishes? The film has encountered various embarrassing and humorous misunderstandings from the first family to Germany. It is not until the first time that I returned to my hometown of Turkey, but I started to feel uncomfortable with Turkey, quietly showing the change of a family. Maybe some living habits have changed, but cultural genes are indeed a difficult thing to eliminate. In fact, you shouldn’t eliminate them either. For example, when children are clamoring about Christmas, their parents laughed and took out gifts, and the children said, you want to hide it! ! The warm family atmosphere was completely destroyed by the sparsely-branched little winter cypress tree that Dong Shixiao had. In the end, there are no candles and no German food, only a deserted Turkish Christmas.
Forty years later, at the request of the old father, a family of children went back to Turkey for a holiday. They complained. The university granddaughter said, "Grandpa, I can't go, I have an exam." The old father said that the most important exam in life is Know what is important and what is unnecessary. Father's order cannot be violated, and everyone starts packing their luggage. I finally arrived in Turkey, but my grandson did not want to speak Turkish. The fruit seller and my grandson said, "It doesn't matter, I can speak a little German." Finally, the industrious and kind little man thanked the old father for his hospitality and was leaving, and the little grandson finally said goodbye in Turkish.
In the movie, as the 100,000 guest worker who went to Germany that year, the old father was invited by Chancellor Merkel to give a speech. The old father refused at first, but finally nodded his head after a family talked about it. When he was getting a haircut with his little grandson, he prepared the speech. He asked the little grandson to correct it and see if there were any grammatical errors.
After a time of dizziness, the old father can be regarded as "going with the flow" and left peacefully in the car. The little grandson asked his father where grandpa had gone. Dad said, Grandpa is by your side and also by my side. People have three states, and he just exists in another form. The little grandson said, oh, grandpa verdampft (evaporated).
But the burial of the old father has also become a big problem, because it is German nationality, and as a foreigner in Turkey, he cannot enter the land of Muslims. The doctor said, I understand, but I'm sorry, you are foreigners. The old mother said angrily, but this is a piece of paper! The old mother said, I can't let your father break the tradition of thousands of years. At the beginning of the film, the old mother hopes to escape the Turkish culture and become a "real" German. She eats green olives and is excited to finally obtain German citizenship. The old father said, it was just a piece of paper! The old mother disagrees. But when the two cultures fought fiercely, she finally said it herself: it was just a piece of paper.
Finally, they returned to their home in Turkey 40 years ago, only to find that there was only a symbolic door left. They opened the door and walked over, behind which was a piece of yellow land. Maybe the old father just hoped that his family would not forget the yellow land in his hometown.
At the end of the film, the little grandson speaks on behalf of his grandfather at the conference, because only he knows the content of the old father's speech, as his father said, the soul of the old father is in each of them.
The “traditional culture” in our imagination is a concept that is too complicated to explain, but in the movie, it is just the bits and pieces in our lives. The cultures of home and foreign countries are not hostile, but are full of friendly and sometimes funny misunderstandings. At the same time, the two cultures also interact and change the people who experience them, just like an old mother who goes out when she goes back to Turkey for the first time. Forget the veil. From a closer look, culture is nothing more than a trivial thing. Thanks to the delicate Turkish female director, a relaxing and touching family comedy that made me wipe out two tears flowed on the screen like this.
