I like this movie very much, even more than the later "Underground". This film is still about people, father, mother, grandfather, elder brother, and two uncles are very cute. Absurdity is revealed in a person's character, that is the attitude of the director.
The tune was set at the beginning of the movie. The neighbors who played the piano and sang, and the women who listened to songs were beaten to the feet. Dramatic abuse with a joyous atmosphere. There are several passionate scenes in the movie, but the director is very restrained, revealing but not pornographic. (A digression. Chinese directors, regardless of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China, always have a bad sense of control when shooting passionate scenes, and it is always awkward to look at. I don't know if it is too much or too fake...)
On the day of circumcision, The father was taken away. The more sensible brother knew what had happened, so he beat the younger brother and took the money to his mother. That section was moved. The older brother is older and knows what's going on better.
Generally speaking, the film is told from Mark's perspective, but it is not entirely limited to children. The movie uses a lot of voice-over narration. Perhaps the narration is not so uncinematical. In some types of stories, narration can help a lot. Most of the narrations in this movie are inner monologues of little Mark, showing the children watching this absurd world and little thoughts. But this is not actually a children's film.
This film can reflect a very strong director's attitude. The director's attitude towards life and the perspective of observing the world. Passed it out without any obstacles.
Several times the woman has connected with the toilet. On the day of the circumcision, my younger uncle’s girlfriend hid in the toilet reading letters and hiding photos. A neighbor woman was drinking in the toilet. In the end, the female physical education teacher looked for a toilet rope when she tried to commit suicide... Especially like the last suicide paragraph. The woman (after being humiliated) committed suicide, but the sound of toilet flushing came when she jumped down. marvelous! ! ! Simply great design! ! All the humiliation, grief and anger at that moment suddenly turned into shit...including all the heavy experiences before...It's ironic! I was moved at this moment!
And the role of father, XO with the physical education teacher... For the experience at that time, XO finally resolved the two years of torture. He is not bothersome, more like a vent. Little Mark couldn't understand this yet.
The world is ridiculous enough, let's not be serious here.

After watching it, I always feel that many of the later movies have learned from this movie. Such as sunshine, such as beautiful life. What I like the most is the light narrative sense in the film. Everything I see from the child's point of view, no matter how heavy the plot is, is like a veil.
