Batman Forever (2)

Last time I talked about Batman, this time I want to talk about his partners.

The first is Robin. Robin appeared in the comics very early. In 1939, the first Batman comic was published. In 1940, Robin became Batman's partner. When Warner starts shooting a Batman movie, the director and screenwriter have to consider a question before shooting each episode: Should Robin appear? When filming the first episode, the original idea was to let Robin appear. The script was already written, and even the storyboard was designed, but when the filming started at the end, director Tim Burton still deleted this scene. He felt that Robin’s appearance was unnecessary, it would only make the plot procrastinate. In the second episode, someone proposed to let Robin appear, and Tim also rejected this proposal. (Poor Robin, he didn’t even have a bright day under Tim’s hands) Until the third episode, Tim finally stopped directing Batman, Jo Schumacher picked up the guide tube, and Robin finally had a bright day. In three episodes, Robin officially debuted. Robin's appearance in the movie is roughly the same as in the comics. Both his parents and elder brother died when he was performing in a trapeze in the circus, and he was adopted by Bruce Wayne. The slight difference is that in the comics Robin’s parents and elder brother were killed by a clown, but in the movie it was changed to be killed by a double-faced man (Interestingly, I said that I had designed it when I filmed the first episode. The script and storyboard of Robin’s appearance are about the story of Robin’s parents and brother being killed by the clown). Robin in the comics was still a kid when he served as Batman’s partner, but as a movie, if a child is still used as the role of the comics, Warner and the director felt that it was not enough to attract the audience. Therefore, in the movie, Luo Bin was already a young man as soon as he appeared. In terms of casting, he selected Chris O'Donnell, who was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for his role in "Scent of a Woman". Before this, Chris had always played that kind of fresh appearance. This is only the first time for the role of a good student who is about to step out of university to play this kind of intense action movie. In the film, Chris also changed his previous image of a good student and performed a handsome and somewhat rebellious one. The young Robin allowed the audience to fully accept this youth version of Robin and received unanimous praise. At the same time, he was given the opportunity to appear in the fourth episode. In the fourth episode, Robin’s name was put in the name of the movie. Robin’s role has also increased a lot compared to the previous episode, but its setting is a complete failure. The audience actually saw a chatter, arrogance, Robin, who is also jealous of Batman, is far from the image of the comics. Chris himself also shook his head at Robin in this episode during the interview. Today's Chris O'Donnell has rarely appeared on the big screen, and the star journey seems gloomy, which is a pity.

In the fourth episode, in addition to Robin, there is another partner beside Batman, which is Batgirl. In the movie, she is the niece of the butler Ah Fu, a rebellious young man like Robin, who likes to speed around with people on a rumbling motorcycle at midnight. But in fact, in the comics, Batgirl is actually Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City Police Chief Gordon. I don’t know why the film changed her identity. The directors didn’t explain it, maybe it was to be with Ah Fu. This character draws a relationship in the plot of a serious illness in the movie, to set off the deep love between Batman and Afu's master and servant (I guess, because Batgirl didn't understand why Afu was willing to be Bruceway at the beginning of the plot. En's servant, if you still follow the comic's settings, this plot cannot be edited). The Batgirl is played by Alicia Silverstone, who was only 21 years old at the time. In the movie, Batgirl is a very facial character. Even her appearance can be said to be dispensable. The plot is also a bit far-fetched, which can be said to be a failure of the movie. In fact, the plot of the whole movie is quite confusing. Taking Batgirl as an example, there was no explanation of Batgirl's fighting skills at first, but it changed as soon as she put on Batgirl costume. She was so skillful that she killed the Plant Girl alone, and Ah Fu never told her about her master, but suddenly made her a Batgirl costume; such as these, it seems that the whole movie was shot purely for money. Screenwriters, directors, etc. were all launched in a hurry, full of loopholes. After Alicia Silverstone performed this episode, there was no major development in her career. She played several lesser-known films, and gradually faded out of people's sight.

In addition to these two partners who followed Batman from birth to death, there are two others who must be mentioned.

The first is the butler Afu, who has served for three generations of Wayne’s family. After the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents, he took the responsibility of raising Bruce alone, and then helped Bruce Wayne build the bat cave. Take care of everything in his home so that Batman can fight the criminals without any worries. In the comics, Afu is a retired military doctor, so he also assumed the responsibility of healing Batman. This is basically not mentioned in the movie. In the first four episodes, the role of Afu is Michael Goff, a typical Hollywood licorice actor, not well-known, the role played in the past has not attracted much attention, the most brilliant career is to starred in the first four episodes of Batman Ah Fu, the performance is quite regular, the appearance is very close to the image of the old-fashioned butler , Serious but not rigid, loyal to the owner. Now Goff is very old and rarely appears on the screen, but in this year's new cartoon "Zombie Bride" by Tim Burton, he can be heard dubbing one of the characters. In the fifth episode, the role of the butler Afu can be very big. The two-time Oscar best actor Michael Kane, in fact, according to the role setting of the fifth episode, the role of the butler is not too big. As long as the appearance fits, anyone can perform well. The purpose of using Kane is to ensure the safety of the film to the greatest extent, so that there will be no deviation in the secondary role and affect the entire film. In fact, Kane also played quite well, but he did not overwhelm the main character, and set off the protagonist very well.

The second is police chief Gordon. He can be said to be Batman’s official spokesperson in the real world. He will contact Batman to solve the criminals he can’t handle. Only he knows how to contact Batman, but he never wants to hear Batman’s secrets. People who can be trusted. In the first four episodes, Gordon is played by Pat Hingle, an actor who is not well-known, and there are not many places to play his acting skills in the film. But in the fifth episode, ho ho, it’s Gary Oldman, one of my favorite actors who played Gordon. Gary has always been good at playing the kind of crazy and neurotic roles. The most impressive thing is The number one villain in "This Killer Isn't Too Cold", his performance was incisive, and he robbed all the other actors in the play. In this film, due to the role setting, Gary put away his nervousness and became A decent and honest, even a little cowardly policeman Gordon. But to be honest, although Gary's performance in Batman has maintained a consistently high level, I think this role does not have that madness, so Gary is a bit inferior to the other famous supporting roles in the film. actor.

Ra's al Ghul: Only a cynical man would call what these people have "lives," Wayne. Crime, despair... this is not how man was supposed to live. The League of Shadows has been a check against human corruption for thousands of years. We sacked Rome, loaded trade ships with plague rats, burned London to the ground. Every time a civilization reaches the pinnacle of its decadence, we return to restore the balance.
