As far as the three Fassbinder films I have watched now, his later films all seem to be foreseeable. "Four Seasons Merchant" predicted his own future, and this "Fox and its Friends" predicted his lover at the time: Amin Meyer.
Neither man nor woman seemed to be able to escape Fassbinder's control, and they were all attracted by him. He is nothing more than a fat man with an ugly appearance, what charm is there to attract so many people to be tortured by him. Emma Herman has always endured the man who Fassbinder constantly "renewed", and she has survived. But Amin couldn't. When Fassbender felt that this man had been under his control and had begun to rely on himself, the man had been abandoned.
Fox, because of his lottery ticket and living a huge prize money, later met Eugene, and fell in love with this man deeply. Eugene was the young owner of a paper mill, and he persuaded Fox to save the paper mill that was about to fail. Fox did as Eugene said, and Eugene asked Fox to learn the life etiquette and taste of the superior, bought a house for the two with Fox's money, and went on a trip together. This is the process that Fox takes step by step towards self-destruction. The more he gives Eugene what he has, the more he loses himself. At the beginning, Fox kept his arrogance, "Your father is just a man to me."
In the end, Fox’s bonus was used up, Eugene no longer needed him, the house was occupied, and Fox’s life went back to the past, or worse than it was in the past. His nerves gradually became hysterical because of Eugene, and he died in the tunnel. This ending is not just the sadness of Fox, Fassbender also tried to express the sadness of West Germany at that time. The two children found Fox who was dead, and took away all the money from him, as well as the gold watch in his hand. When Fox's two friends happened to pass by here, they found the dead Fox, and left in a hurry for fear of getting into trouble. The two children who had been hiding behind the pillars started the "search" that had been interrupted before, and they finally stripped Fox's coat with "FOX" on his body. The body was pitifully dumped in the tunnel.
In fact, the whole film can use "exploitation" to speak of things. Eugene, exploiting all of Fox; friend, exploiting Fox’s friendship; sister, exploiting Fox’s affection; others, exploiting Fox can be exploited.
When Eugene and Fox first met, there was no doubt that he liked this young man, but after the lust, the novelty faded, and it was reality. The hesitant explanation with his lover indicates that Fox is just being used by himself. He began to exploit Fox, his money, let him invest in paper mills, let him learn the taste of life, let him buy a house and buy furniture, let him travel together, but all this depends on Eugene, and Fox just Pay. Fox gave unreservedly, in exchange for Eugene's alienation and disgust. Fox returned to the room at night and said to Eugene on the bed: "You know what? I can't live without you. Armin, the "Fox" in reality, was also exploited by Fassbinder. Although he had no money, all he had was given by Fassbinder. Just as Eugene gave Fox to receive the upper-class taste and etiquette education he didn't like, Fassbender also gave Amin Xin superior living conditions. From this point of view, Amin is lucky, and Fassbender has indeed loved him. Moreover, he is Fassbinder's last lover. But like Fox, he was exploited and lost himself, completely attached to Fassbinder, completely manipulated by his own love and manipulated his own reason.
In the end Fassbender used a long shot to say that Fox’s final last, two children stripped the "Fox", Fox was lying in the tunnel, 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds ...The lens is dark. This is also the sadness of Amin, and it is also the sadness of Germany. Fassbinder’s childhood seriously affected his future behavior and thoughts.
