"Lust Caution (Liti Chung Version)" film review (serious spoilers)

This film review comes from my blog http://blog.sina.com.cn/yyimin

"The world is safe and secure, and the Tathagata does not bear the Qing"-Cang

A few days ago, when Yang Gyatso was flipping through the book "Lust and Caution" starring Zhong Liti, when the author introduced the book "Lust Caution" starring Zhong Liti, he quickly looked down and found out that this movie is actually unexpected. Okay, I don’t know how to describe it;

at the beginning, it was India, on a plateau above 15,000 meters above sea level, with a clear blue sky. An eagle glide across the sky and grabbed a big rock with a "bang". Smashed a sheep;

apparently this was carefully designed by the director. At the end of the movie, it was under the same sky, and there was still an eagle gliding there, but this time the eagle did nothing, just wandering leisurely. In the sky; perhaps, this is what the director wants to convey;

dust to dust, dirt to dirt! ! ! !

I don’t know who translated this title. It’s really interesting. The original title is "Samsara", which literally means "Reincarnation", but the Chinese title is translated into "Lust Caution", haha , It is a very straightforward explanation of the main theme of the film;

sex, is it a precept or an improper precept? Quit, how to quit? If you don't quit, how can you not quit?

Of course, this sex should not be limited to the scope of female sex, eroticism, and lust;

because this movie itself is discussing the issue of spiritual practice, it is necessary to explain a little bit about the word " sex ". In this way, The title "Lust Caution" is meaningful;

what is familiar is that "Lust is emptiness", and "Lust is emptiness, emptiness is lust" from the "Maha Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra". Different color, color is emptiness, and emptiness is color. This is an important idea of Buddhism. Simply speaking, sex refers to all things that can be seen or not, and these phenomena are illusions produced by people's illusions.

Okay, so what should we do in the face of these material phenomena? Is it to overcome it or to experience and satisfy it? To use the words of Master Ap in the movie, "What is more important, is it to satisfy a thousand desires or overcome one?"

So the question here is actually how to practice. Ap, I haven’t figured it out after a lifetime. He looked forward to the next reincarnation, when he touched the Dashi, Dashi could tell him; and did Dashi understand it? Finally, the film did not explain; of course, the film is actually implicitly explained from another main line, that main line is Parma;

less gossip, let’s start with the movie (serious spoilers~~~);

story one What we started talking about was that Apu and his entourage went to retreat for 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days of Dasa’s retreat;

then what we saw was a skinny, dry, tangled hair, long nails, and a mummy. Ordinary ascetics who are sitting cross-legged and withered to escape the world; if you are a Buddhist, you must look at this picture very familiar, because at first glance, Dashi's appearance at this time is similar to the Buddha's ascetic picture under the Bodhi tree. It's no different! (From this opening paragraph, the monks awakened the way and rituals of entering the Dhamma and Dashi, it can be seen that the director really has a deep understanding of the practice of Buddhism, otherwise it will not be able to be so specific and subtle. These pictures are again Familiar with the movie "Little Living Buddha")

Therefore, as soon as Dashi left the customs, he was awarded by the Winble Living Buddha to cultivate his career. Of course, the retreat of 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days was originally something that few people did; The explanation here is very clear. This is an extremely brave and meaningless practitioner, who dares to do such asceticism is definitely not something ordinary people can do; therefore, great determination and great perseverance are really not a problem for him;

therefore, at the end of the film, Dash burst into tears, tears streaming down his face, that cry is really heartbreaking, that despair, only those who have really pursued it and those who have worked hard for it will understand The kind of pain is not that I don't want to work hard, or that I don't suffer hardship, but I really don't know where to go!

This is actually a questioning of traditional beliefs and the path of traditional practice. Where is the real way to achieve success?

The movie is like this, and the theme is slowly unfolded. After watching the movie, many people think that the director only raises questions, and then put it aside. In fact, it’s not that simple to watch it seriously;

therefore, Let’s start with Dash. Soon after Dash returned to the temple, he regained his vitality and ate all kinds of grains in the world. , of course, was not yet in contact with the temptation of colored contacts, so this time is obviously nothing to do with lust woman, regardless of color, just biological instinct, human nature bud just purely made peace in the self-nature;

and then as In the advancement of the movie, I noticed another detail (in a good movie, there will be no idle writing), that is, Dash has been a monk since he was a child and was five years old. A year-old child was sent to the temple to practice, and he explained from the side that Dashi came to the mountain in the same way.) This has to make people wonder, at the age of five, he began to practice. What does this mean? A five-year-old child doesn't understand anything. He is at home, and the love he draws from his parents is not enough, so he starts so-called spiritual practice? So why practice, why shave a bald head? Why put on this robes? How would he know! ! ! Then he should follow the rules and doctrines and start observing the clear rules and precepts!

What's the use of this?

Therefore, this is also the biggest source of that question from Dash Council, because it was not his choice to become a monk. He did not know why he became a monk. He was only sent, but arranged, and walked this way, even though he worked very hard. ;

Freedom? If you don't know anything, then how do you practice?

So, there is another question. Should we keep our practice pure and unworldly, or should we let it go after experiencing the great ocean?

"Prince Siddhartha left the palace and his extravagant life; sitting in his golden carriage, he saw human suffering for the first time; that night, Sakyamuni decided to leave his beautiful wife and son Luhe, and he left without saying goodbye. "—The Lama is telling the story of the Buddha;

"He left his son?" The five-year-old boy who had just shaved his head asked,

"Yes, because he wanted to find out the reason for our suffering." The Lama replied ;

"Wow~~" Then the child started crying. The child just felt the pain of being abandoned by his father; and the great ideal that Shakyamuni held was to find out the reason for the suffering of all beings, which was revealed to this child It's too far;

"I want to go home", the child continued to cry;

this paragraph echoes the end of the film, Parma's rebuke to Dashi;

therefore. That is to say, it explains a theme, the motivation is very important, what is the purpose of doing these things; what is the purpose of practicing, if it is not clear, then this road will be very confused; there will be many Frustration;

so, even if the Living Buddha grants Dashi the cultivation karma, what about? What is the use?

Therefore, a picture of a female breastfeeding can suddenly defeat Dash’s 20 years of hard work;

therefore, at the harvest festival, Parma’s appearance only appears with a hand with a silver bracelet; and this has already made Dash My heart was flustered, let alone looking directly at Parma himself.

"Form is emptiness, emptiness is form", it is understood in principle, but is it possible to do it? The erotic picture that the unknown Zen master showed to Dashi is white bones from another angle, but before I have experienced it, is it useful to tell him this?

The last thing I got from the unknown Zen master is "Anything you come into contact with is a place to learn Dao!", and this should be the real way to learn Dao in the film! Lust, quitting or not quitting are actually not the point! What is the point?

"He (referring to the Buddha) was still living a mundane life before he was 29, but since I was five years old, I have lived a life of asceticism after his escape. Why? How do we know that his enlightenment was not directly caused by mundane life? Apu, after strictly observing the monk's precepts, where is the freedom promised to me? We are committed to abstinence, but where is the satisfaction promised to me? He once said that you should not listen to me and accept my teachings unless you know it. From our standpoint, we must put aside our prejudices before we can really learn. There are some things we must have before we can give up.”

So it’s not surprising that Dash will also ask such questions;

therefore, Dash chose to contact, Experience the journey, choose, to contact instead of avoiding depression;

It’s just that what started out was an unclear experience; what he chose was to satisfy a thousand desires;

so, in order to pursue the pleasure of satisfaction, in order to satisfy the inner desire, Dash was ignited and

his wife started all over again . In the end, they are practicing the truth that you must understand after experiencing it yourself. For example, Dash and the child said that it is cold outside, and she advocates not to overprotect the child. After the child is frozen, he naturally knows that it is cold outside. Then, let the child observe by himself, and then the child will know what will happen to the branch that runs down the water;

Parma is just an ordinary woman in a plateau village, following the tradition passed down from generation to generation, and doing her duty. It’s just that you are satisfied with your current life. That’s all.

Looking back at this practitioner, it’s very interesting. First, the precepts are still so strong; second, the desire is difficult to fill; this is mutually complementary, because he uses precepts to suppress One’s own nature, therefore, the depth of depression, the stronger the rebound. Therefore, when the precepts do not work at a certain time, it is not surprising that the desire is hard to fill;

therefore, in the Lama’s mind, sex is like a monster, from Having sex does not want the child to come in, and the child sleeps next to him, he dare not make love. This shows that there are more rules and regulations in his heart, but for Parma, this is no problem at all; and later The act of cheating with that female worker is even more memorable. Anything that is not allowed and all behaviors that are strictly prohibited (Cheating is undoubtedly an act of adultery in Buddhism), but always treat him There is a special temptation, and after doing

so, it will produce so much guilt in his heart; therefore, here is an extension of the problem;

Parma is in a pure natural environment, there are not so many taboos, not so much It’s more repressive, and some are just simple folk customs. Therefore, she is healthy for sex and has no taboo. The same thing is that the people in their entire village have simple needs, knowing that Du Hua will deceive them. But they still won't do anything for more rewards;

but what about Dash, what about this once outstanding practitioner and the lama who was granted the cultivation karma?

At first, in order not to be exploited by Du Hua, he transported the grain to the city and sold it. Later, he even urged others not to sell the grain to Du Hua;

Later, in order to reap more benefits, I began to plan to cut short-term labor;

later, when I encountered the temptation of female workers, I couldn't help it, and began to have an affair.

Dashi's behavior is so incompatible in this village. ;

When he bewitched Ma Yang to pick up the grain by himself at the market to sell, Ma Yang disagreed;

when he thought the field was set on fire by Du Hua, he couldn’t wait to find Du Hua to settle the account; Du Hua, very unwilling He politely scolded him, "Stupid, go ask the neighbors, you think I burn your field, no one here will do this kind of thing, mature"

Dashxian is so out of place; he doesn't understand why everyone is In such a life,

he thought he had the truth, he thought he was right, but why is it strange? In this simple plateau mountain village; he just appeared to be a complete marketer everywhere, but like a man. The merchants in

Handi are here ; when I see this, I kind of understand the question raised at the beginning of the movie;

"How to make a drop of water not dry up?" The original meaning of flowing into the sea is to return to nature, return to the source, return to nature, and not be depressed. Don’t control, let’s go to nature, return to nature; of

course everyone now knows that it is "flowing into the sea"; but I have never been able to find it. What is the relationship between this "flowing into the sea" and the theme of this film?

In particular, how are sex and desire related to practice and Buddhahood?

So, let’s turn aside and talk about lust and practice.

Since ancient times, lust and practice seem to be a contradictory pair. In particular, almost every religion promotes abstinence, but desire, sex, is for everyone. A barrier that can't be avoided; people come from sex, from desire, and from desire, from sex to spread the next generation; if there is no sex, how can there be Buddha's descendants? If there is no sex, how can the soul boy be reincarnated?

So, how can lust and practice have both? How can we "live up to the Tathagata and live up to the Qing"?

Finally, when I was writing this article, suddenly my head flashed, the sentence in the dialogue with God, "It is inevitable to be a God"; suddenly everything suddenly became clear, maybe this is the real answer. !

So, actually, in other words, water flowing into the sea is inevitable unless you resist it; this is also the meaning of the branch that Parma dropped, because it must flow into the sea;

you resist him, run away from him, and oppress It distorts her, and it is also in vain;

people in the practice often experience the joy of Zen. Although I have not experienced this, through reading and sharing with some people who have experienced it, I probably know that it is a kind of comparison. Sex is more intense and lasting pleasure;

then I thought about the so-called sex, and the sex life that most men are diligently seeking, maybe the essence is the same, right?

It’s just our understanding of sex and the misleading definition of sex in society as a whole, adding to sex, layers of social beliefs, social values, and moral frameworks that don’t belong to it; and the original naked publicity Sexual pleasure has also been transformed into a deviation and confusion, and has even become a tool of control and proof in everyone's hands;

perhaps, true sexual pleasure and sexual pleasure can be achieved by the other side, right? It’s just that we have now lost the possibility of simply obtaining the original sexual pleasure without any additional sexual pleasure; because we are not the simple, naked, primitive us as we were born;

therefore, Tantric Buddhism There is tantra in it, and Osho has developed the tantra practice to the extreme, becoming a practice method that goes straight to the core of enlightenment. In the meditation of the unity of the self;

isn't sex the best explanation for unity?

Therefore, in this film, that part of the scene where Parma and Dashi have sex in the wild portrays the special beauty of this too! Sex itself is beautiful, so why do we need to quit?

Perhaps, Pa Ma, inadvertently already given the answer, and that is when children play the game, you actually tell the kids, of course, just that time of the world, it is a loss,

Pa Ma, it touches have been It’s all clear and clear, and Dashi is not clear from start to finish; therefore, he didn’t know and was at a loss. At every moment, he had to hold on to the truth that he was right.

Therefore, Parma’s last words to Dashi tells all of the film;

excerpts are as follows:

"Yelundra, have you heard of this name? Prince Shakyamuni, Gautam, Siddhartha, Buddha, everyone knows too."

"Yelundala, Yalundala married Sakyamuni, she loved him very much, and one night, Sakyamuni left, she and her son Luhe, they were sleeping fast, he went Seeking enlightenment and becoming a Buddha, he didn’t say anything when he left.”

“Yelundhara cared for the patients. She was earlier than Sakyamuni and healed them. She was earlier than Sakyamuni. She understood the suffering of the people. Maybe, his Enlightenment was inspired by her; perhaps Yeluntra thought about leaving Shakyamuni and Luhe; how do we know Yeluntra

was not angry after Sakyamuni left? Didn’t feel lonely or miserable? Who would think of her? ? " "

son of the road charge kept asking her the same question, where is the father? how can she answer? how can she tell him? " "

how can leave the mother to leave his son in the middle of the night, only men can do, up to the world, only men do

"After she got it, Yalundhara had no choice but to abandon her past life, cut her hair, and lead a life of asceticism."

"Oh, Dashi, if you crave the Dharma as strong as your desire for me, you can do it. Buddha, in this life, this pair of body "
