Heartbroken on the journey home

I noticed this film by accident and watched it twice in one night. Sorrowful and sad until the dream.

Now no one takes the translation of the title seriously anymore, but the Chinese translation is too horrible. In fact, it is a story of "sorrowful past". . . This film won a lot of independent and small film festivals that year, and the taste is really sad.

New Zealand’s desolate, vast and sparsely populated land is as simple as an isolated town. The hero returned to his hometown after his father passed away for more than ten years. Old past events then flooded into Haiti. The special thing about the whole film is that the emotions that spread throughout the story have been tumbling and changing. At first, I thought it was talking about human loneliness. As the male protagonist’s childhood experience unfolded, family relationships, father and son, mother and The relationship between the son, the relationship between the brothers, and then to the first love, the relationship with the lover, intertwined entanglements. This mood changed with the appearance of another heroine. What is introduced at this time is the emotional transformation between the new father and daughter, including the rebellion and dreams of young people (at least until the end of the film is revealed). And the second half of the film has a somewhat horrifying taste, the bizarre disappearance of the heroine, what is the secret of the heroine, etc., it is almost forgotten that the first half is full of solitary disappointment. Until all the truth is revealed at the end of the film, the dazzling nature is a bit shocking and painful in the style of "Chinatown". All the secrets, all the truths, all the pains and injuries, are flooding at this moment like a flood. It was so sad that it was caught off guard.

Closing my eyes, I am still wondering about a series of unresolved doubts. The simplicity and dignity of the film is enough to drown people. At that time, the vigorous hopes finally disappeared. At that time, the desolate, compassionate despair was deeply pierced in my heart.

The interpretation of ps MM in this film is in place, and the sorrow and loneliness delivered between the eyebrows and eyes are not exhaustive. . .

In My Father's Den quotes

  • Andrew: All this time I wondered why you upped and left. You knew what he was up to didn't you... You know the really sad part - I didn't even find out until I read the will... You killed me when you walked away and left me with that evil piece of scum. You had the gall to come back here and bring that thing into our house, my mother's house... Like father, like son.

  • [Paul is very drunk]

Paul Prior: Hey, I've got a joke. What sexual position produces the ugliest children?

    Andrew: I don't know.

    Paul Prior: Ask your mother!
