Although the image of the devil is a little bit mentally retarded, I still think this is a good movie. The film is a bit silent, but also bloody and violent, and it is not a cult film.
As for "Faust", the director has his own understanding, that is, whether it is worth selling oneself in exchange for desire, and whether it makes a person lose his morality and conscience as a person. When people face bewitched, evil, and deep-seated desires, they often cannot break free. This is the root of inferiority in human genes, and it is also a position that is easily controlled by "devil". What the director wants to express is that "demon" is an inner attribute of us, just like the "heart demon" of Chinese people, the protagonist seems to be forced to kill others, but in fact it is invaded by another evil self. At the end of this horror movie, it was attributed to the inner human beings, instead of focusing on the issue of religious spirituality.
The deduction born out of this understanding is not too deviating.
But one thing is that the director's tension is not enough, and he lacks control and driving ability in many details. Therefore, some unnecessary plots are too detailed, which makes the whole thing procrastinate. For example, the plot of the weapon messenger detecting the murder weapon in Jamie's house is really a bit funny. There is also a section of Jamie's murder that is so detailed that one can't help but fast forward-after all, this plot is a horror climax, if it is not compact and fast, it will delay the audience's tugging heart.
On the whole, "Relentless" is considered to be a thought-provoking film, except for the slightly blunt approach, giving three stars a fair evaluation.
