The quality of Italian comedy

The last course of this semester is the study of comedy in Italy from the 1930s to the 1950s.
In class yesterday, the teacher played a 58-year-old movie called "The Unknown Man".
It is sold on the market called "Manhattan's Big Shot".

It's pretty good, it's perfect!
This is another standard film in my mind to provide a "good film".

What are you talking about?
Speaking of the Roman suburbs after the war, a few thieves, hooligans and boxers
tried their best to break through the empty door and open a wall that they thought would lead to the pawnshop safe,
only to open the kitchen.
So, they had to eat a pot of leftover pasta and go home.

Some of them have a withered mouth and no teeth, but the only purpose is to eat.
Whenever there is food, the old man stuffs his mouth;
there is a tall, handsome, weak boxer in the boxing ring, in
order to get a key
She
tried her best to pursue the little girl who was looking at the house. The little girl finally gave him the key, begging him to return the house to the housekeeper, for her credit, but he could not forget the innocence of the girl who kept lying.
He really The key was returned (then their team paid a huge price to go to the house and go to the bottom of the ditch);
there was a polite little man who always locked his sister at home.
He looked decent and didn't look like it at all. An inferior man, he committed a crime to raise a dowry for his sister;
there was a young man who always bought this for his mother, he fell in love with this guy's sister,
he had three mothers, because he was actually raised in an orphanage , The so-called mother is the nanny in the orphanage.
In the last paragraph of the movie, the young man withdrew from the team. He was going to do serious things for his mother. The
decent man also gave him the key. He said:
"If we fail, please take care of my sister. You love your mother, you are a good person." The
young man was overjoyed and said in surprise:
"Then I wish you would not come back!"

Uh, this is a comedy.
Yes, this is a comedy, but why do they commit crimes?
In order to eat, for the three mothers, for the children, for the younger sister, for a little bit of money to survive.
You can see their relatives, the reality they are toiling for.
You can see the streets, the dilapidated houses, the ragged clothes, and the struggling little people.
They lost everything, but they didn't lose themselves.
They still retain their own solid warmth and the conscience of the poor.

In the last paragraph of the movie, the morning came, and
these gray-headed losers were walking on the empty street.
One of them chased the bus and yelled: "I don't know you! Never come to me again!"
One squatted on the tool box and waited for the No. 31 bus.
The other two unlucky ghosts were carried by the crowd and had to rush down the line of construction workers...
There is no Hollywood reunion, no diamonds are actually in your pockets, and no beloved girl is standing by the side of the road with a box waiting for you.
There is nothing but reality.
A huge noisy comedy is over, this is a deserted and lonely reality.

This is Italian comedy, which is why I think it is "perfect".

  • Cosimo: [seeing other prisoners smoking in the prison yard] May your father and mother drop dead if you have a cigarette and aren't sharing.

    [no one responds]

    Cosimo: All orphans here, I see.

  • Tiberio: Stealing is a serious profession. You need serious people, not people like you. All you can do at your best is work.
