In the early part of the film, I saw the teenager stubbornly run away with a backpack, and his family stayed behind. I thought it was another vulgar scene of youth pain. This foreshadowing appeared repeatedly, and it can even be regarded as the root of brothers' discord, but It wasn't until the end of the film that the sordidness and evil behind this content were revealed. Regarding this part, you can watch it yourself, too much spoiler is not good.
Just to say that this is a movie about incest, crime, youth or something else, it seems that all the labels are not enough to express everything. The content of criminal themes, but the warm and beautiful parts interspersed in it, are enough to PK literary films.
I think many people are like me. Before the confession by the river, they thought that C was Paul's daughter. It is not difficult to imagine that under the naivety and rebellion of adolescence, pregnancy and childbirth are not uncommon dramas. Maybe there are still many people who thought at the beginning that if C dies, he must be the evil hand of the bad stepfather. Everywhere I see this stepfather, he is a sordid and undecent image. He went to the bathroom when his daughter was taking a bath, and when his mother left, he was in the bathroom. She talked to her with that look and tone in front of her room, or beat her.
But the ending we saw in the end was indeed unexpected. It seemed that two people without any connections created such a situation. There is too much content in this.
What touched me most was the relationship between C and Paul. It is not new for girls at this age to like much older people. The temptation to him, pretending to be an official interview, posted his photos and his works in the room, googled his information. All of this is really the behavior of a spring girl, which is not hard to imagine. A child who grew up in an environment where his father’s love is lacking will not be unmoved for such a well-informed, affectionate, ambitious and mature man. But when disclosing the truth, he experienced the double conversion of this man's identity to himself. I admire her for her ability to bear it.
Indeed, I also like Paul very much. The conversation in that "cave" is reassuring and moving. For the existence of the cave at this time, in the hearts of these two people is such a gentle existence.
But when predicting their father-daughter relationship, I smiled sarcastically, C, this is where the man and your mother in front of you made you more than ten years ago.
But maybe this idea will not cause devastating harm to both of them.
This hurts at the end.
In the cave there are fond memories of Paul and his father in the absence of maternal love.
In the cave, Paul has completed all the fantasy of being a teenager, the space of independent self, creation, and so on all the items that complete his teenager's memories.
Paul and his girlfriend are warm in the cave.
In the cave there is a crime witnessed by Paul.
There is Paul's new life in the cave.
There are... in the
cave there are many, many, enough to defeat our defense line, we can no longer say if all the truth is continued or even permanently buried, the final result. Perhaps this kind of deep digging is necessary, it is the helplessness to get to this situation, which lacks a lot of necessary explanations, and there are too many unexpected coincidences.
There are so many things in the film that make it impossible for people to sort out their thoughts in the chaotic sadness.
But as a movie, it gave me enough. It touched me and shocked me. Let me recollect its profoundness.
It's really enough.
Finally, the picture of the movie is very beautiful. Macfadyen, which I like, makes me like it even deeper. The girl who starred in C, although you do not fit my fantasy, you did a great job. In some places, the camera shake is too obvious. It shouldn't be there. Maybe it's still immature, but I have expectations. There is another question. It is true that Paul and his brother's mother committed suicide, but what happened to his brother's wife? Is it just that the appearance is similar to the symptoms?
