Eve's power

I once heard an old German talk about his "childhood shadow". When the Soviet army occupied Germany, they raped German women in broad daylight, even in front of children.
He said that this trauma is impossible to get rid of in a lifetime, it is an eternal nightmare. I saw his eyes and my heart tightened.

I didn't watch "Women in Berlin", but I still watched it. The effect of this film on me was unexpected. I neither had nightmares because of the scenes in the film, nor did I have desperate doubts about humanity because of "heinous bestiality" (like after I watched a documentary film about Nanjing) Reflection), and did not fall into the angry thoughts of feminism.

To sum up in HR's words, this is not an accusation film, but a thought-provoking film.

I mentioned this history in my blog before. When I write, I naturally think of Nanjing. One of my questions is, why do all the women in the city need to be like innocent lambs? Why can't we resist it in a vigorous and deterrent way? When the other party does not treat you as a living, emotional, and dignified person, you should let him know in extreme ways.

And "The Woman in Berlin" is half answering my question. It shows a kind of belief in "to live", a kind of dignity of life itself. Let me have a feeling, "It is better to be complete than jade broken", which is also a kind of nobleness.

The protagonist is a well-educated, young and beautiful female reporter. Her experience was the same as that of all Berlin women during the Soviet occupation of Berlin. The only difference was that some people committed suicide, some were tortured to death, some had mental breakdowns, and some were walking dead, but she chose to take this Everything is fully recorded in the diary, and he has a strong belief: "All external injuries can't really hurt myself."
I believe in words, and I feel that after the experience of humiliation, you have the courage to face it, write it down, and show it to the world, and you gain a kind of dignity in itself.

In order to protect herself, she "hooked up" with a senior Soviet officer. The officer was an educated Soviet who could play the piano, and his wife was brutally killed by the Germans.
She provided him with "services", he guaranteed that she would not be assaulted, and provided scarce food. Such an extreme way of survival reminds me of the situation of women for thousands of years: if you have to sell, try to sell to a higher level-such as finding a powerful man and entering into a marriage of interest. Many wise women in ancient times have said that wives and prostitutes are essentially the same. They are also dependent on men, and they have no economic freedom and personality independence.

Obviously it is the relationship between the prostitute and the victim, but subtle emotions gradually develop between the heroine and the high-ranking military officer. One night, she said to him, don't leave. So they urged them to talk for a whole night, "They are all people who have fallen into the world. Seeing the way they look at each other, I know that in this world, only they can understand each other. They are all orphans of war.

Germany surrendered, and the officer found himself in love with the heroine and wanted to take her away.
She said that the meaning of love has changed these years, but she hopes that when her husband comes back to find her, she will be there.

Sure enough, I waited for my husband who returned from the battlefield. This former Nazi soldier looked at his wife’s diary, and his self-esteem collapsed. Don’t you feel ashamed or disgusting?
She rode her bicycle frantically to find the officer, and she saw spring butterflies along the way.
The officer was transferred and was about to leave Berlin. I thought she would rush forward desperately and ask the officer to take her away from this sad and shameful place, and away from the husband who put salt on her wounds. But I was wrong. The following words shocked me:

Woman: Thank you
Officer: Thank you for what?
Woman: Thank you for giving me a chance to let me know you.
The last side.

Thank you, the director. There is no "black or white" to describe this sensitive history and the scars that cannot be lifted. Instead, it does not pretend to show the two sides of human nature.
I will think of "Black Book", "Love in Hiroshima", "Midnight Gatekeeper", "Smog in Paris" and so on.
The Nazis are notorious. Once the Nazis are evacuated, the people in the occupied territories treat so-called "spies" and are no more gentler than the Nazis.

These "traitors who slept with the enemy" are likely to be mixed with spies who endure the humiliation for the country and the people. But people don't care about this, people's depression needs to be vented too much, and people's psychology needs to be balanced too much.
"Women's law parade", what a classic scene.

At this time last year, I went to watch "Rabe's Diary" and saw the frail Chinese people hiding under the Nazi flags on the big screen, avoiding the bombing by the Japanese army. What a big paradox and irony!

Little boys like to watch war movies and watch good people beat bad people. But in reality, who is the good person and who is the bad person?
Once a war breaks out, the evil of human nature will be nakedly exposed.
The country, politics, ideology, pros and cons, etc. can all be defined, but how to define human nature?

The heroine’s husband left her in disgust. She murmured to herself that she didn’t feel sad because she was too busy. She had to clean the floor of the room and search for flowers everywhere. ).
The image of a scarred woman looking for spring flowers among the filthy ruins shocked me again.
Only after seeing this did I understand that she stayed for her husband on the surface, but for her homeland at a deep level-women and homeland are inseparable. Such memories, it is impossible to escape to the ends of the world. Even if she went to Moscow with the officer to rebuild her family and start life, would everything really be different? To stay is a kind of resistance to the shameful memories.

Women are often compared to the earth. The earth is maternal, generous and compassionate, even after the bleak winter, it can still give birth to new life. Butterflies and flowers are hinting at such a faintly beautiful vitality.
The Berlin women who survived all showed superhuman strength. They can even laugh together and talk about the experience of being gang raped, and the greetings become: How many times have you met?
You can say that this is shameless and shameless. But in my eyes, this is the survivability, which is awesome.
I also read about similar powers in "Shame" in South Africa.

After the war ended, the men flee from the dead, and the women in Berlin had to face a broken world after the nightmare.
They are more adaptable than their men, knowing that the old age has long passed and the new age is coming irresistibly. Peace, forgiveness, exchange, repair, and reconstruction are the future.

Some German men reject the future, such as the husband of a woman in the film. It is not easy to escape the war. He obviously can choose to stay with his wife and children to live a peaceful life, but he has to choose to be exiled to Siberia with his comrades for the so-called honor.
His wife cried and said, I was looking forward to your return every day when you were in war. You finally came back, you can't leave!
But he eventually committed suicide by taking poison after the Germans surrendered.

Male fragile self-esteem!

The film did not portray the Soviet army as pure beasts, accusing them of the crime of destroying humanity. Every Soviet who has the luck to live to Berlin has bloody memories and full of hatred. Their hearts are distorted by the tragic death of their relatives. Even if there is a good side, they will never face the "criminal" Germans. .

Whether it is a crazy Soviet soldier, the heroine’s husband, or the suicidal family man, they all reflect the destructive power of men. Compared with women, it is more difficult for them to let go of their hatred and self-esteem and find the power for forgiveness and reconciliation. In a sense, they are actually more vulnerable. For them, there is only violence to violence, broken, broken, no healing, rebirth!
The revival of the German nation is certainly not dependent on these escaped men.
This country has become beautiful again, and there must be Eve's power in it.

The theme of "Suffering and Atonement" comes from the Bible. When I saw the heroine bear everything silently, I couldn't think of this theme. It seems that she was nailed to the cross of shame alone, making atonement for the entire nation.
Reminiscent of King Kidd’s "The Samaritan Girl", the flesh also has the dual meaning of shame and redemption.

this is a true story. The heroine's diary was published after the war and caused great controversy. Some people understood it as a disgrace to the Germans, and the author banned the book from being published during his lifetime.

The subtitles are rubbish and affect the mood. The movie is still good, no one is right in the war...

This angle is worth thinking about, how people survive.
