Why is it called "Forbidden Love in the Army"?

To be honest, I really didn't see how "forbidden love" happened in the military.
In a barren French colony in Africa, a pair of sturdy soldiers are doing arduous and endless training and labor. The strange and ugly officer (it is said to be a very famous French actor, his acting skills are really good) are inexplicably right. The new handsome Russian guy was full of resentment and jealousy, and then all kinds of stories happened, with few lines, which was a boring movie.
What attracts me is the majestic and desolate scenery of Africa and the powerful and solid training methods of foreign troops. The so-called "forbidden love" should not be the "ambiguity" between the Russian military and the commander. (In fact, I didn't see any ambiguity. Place), but it should be the demon hidden in the heart of the ugly chief.
At the end of the film, the ugly guy suddenly danced in a wonderfully dazzling costume. The dance was very bizarre and the music was very moving, but I really didn't understand why this happened.

Let's follow Denis Lawan's eyes to examine the charming ketone body of men, the wanton stretching of the body on the vast African land, which is mechanized in contrast to nature, but has infinite tension. Almost babbling monologue, everything stays in the past, events that are blurred and distorted subjectively. We were looking at them through the eyes of Denis Lawan, and at the end we were looking at himself bewildered by the eyes of the follower camera. The colonialism that is about to end, the military barracks full of crises and charms, and everyone's loss is resolved in the final dance, which permeates the film and turns into a condensed atmosphere of the times.

Mature visual structure of the male body/physical body: Although the presence of the body is obvious, the whole symbolic meaning is not “selling meat”, but showing a magnificent beauty like ancient Greek sculpture. As a female director, it's really ruthless to be able to shoot like this. There is nothing else.

  • Commander Bruno Forestier: [subtitled version]

    [in Russian]

Commander Bruno Forestier: Why did you join the Legion?

Legionnaire: [in Russian] Commandant, you know what it's like in Russia. No money, no work. I was in the army there for two years. I fought for Russia. But it's impossible to fight just for an ideal. An ideal that just keeps changing. You know what I mean?

Commander Bruno Forestier: [in Russian] What ideal?

  • Galoup: [subtitled version] Maybe freedom begins with remorse. Maybe freedom begins with remorse. I heard that somewhere.
