After watching "Summer Time", I suddenly felt that throughout the summer afternoon, both inside and outside the garden, I gradually grew old. The minutiae settled by time began to dry, and finally turned into a smear of dust. Some people are destined to be like knights who have passed away. Although they can't help but sigh, they are finally displayed and overwhelmed by the times.
"Summer Time" begins with a party. The children rushed around and gathered to celebrate their mother’s 75th birthday. In those days, everyone was clustered under the lush trees, chatting and laughing. The quiet and unquiet people and things experienced, the loneliness and non-loneliness of the past, are all left behind. At least now, everyone looks peaceful and sweet like an idyllic poem.
Even the small things are shining on this summer together, this quiet summer.
The multiple vases collected by the mother appeared for the first time in the dialogue between the mother and the eldest son. The mother talked freely about her own affairs, but the eldest son was inexplicably surprised: death! ? Too far away from you! The second time, my mother left. The old servant said: Your mother can't stand the absence of flowers in the room. She said that the absence of flowers in the vase is like death. After the conversation, the quiet old servant took one away as a souvenir. On the third time, when the brother and sister were facing the vase in the window of the furniture store, it suddenly occurred to him that his sister had taken another one. It turns out that their fate is similar to this pair of vases.
The loneliness and desolation of a person's old age is probably the experience of the mother in the film. Mother sits on the recliner in a certain afternoon, and sits until the night falls, her eyes gleaming, sad and sighing, the flowers and vases that accompany her are all silent together in the last time. There is also a period of past events in the mother's heart, either sad or happy, but there is no time for sadness, and it is almost twilight. The mother's heart is still conceived of all the misses and all the plans for this family, but it is like a game in the eyes of the children. That being the case, my mother can only sit on a wicker chair and continue to think about it, ten, twenty, thirty years... a whole era that belongs to her has passed, and the minutiae of memory has been vacuumed and removed. Like the mother’s old house, the landscape paintings, plaster statues and collections in the house, bit by bit, describe the mother’s own youth, but this youth is about to be lost and eventually becomes a lonely story passed on by the children.
At the end of the film, a large group of children appeared in the old house. The silence that once belonged only to the mother became the restlessness of the young people, dancing, drinking, taking drugs and secret meetings, piles of new humans, colorful and bizarre. Mother is gone, taking away the era that belongs to her, and also taking away the pastoral light of a whole generation.
The new mankind bearing the name of "Beat Generation" is full of contradictions, whether it is inheriting inheritance or passing on the spirit. Everything in the past, and that era, is like a fantasy, living in front of the eyes, living in the present. , Trying to use time to polish reality.
Finally, I have to mention the director Olivier Assayas. It is with his reflective eyes that he regretfully expresses his dissatisfaction with reality and his anger at the abandonment of tradition. 'Time disappears like water in sand', time spent! Break the time between the past and the future! Can't you see the faint worries of people's hearts?
