If there was no such river, Thomas might draw a trace of compassion in his heart and let the little boy make a living. Who knows if it will end in another way? Just leave it like that, even if you run away indifferently, people passing by will see it, and seeing it will be another result. Possibly, the tragedy remains, but it will not blame water and life, nor will it deprive the living people of the comfort they deserve, without a trace, and it will never end.
Thomas thought that if he walked out of prison, he would be able to redeem his sorrow and sever all relations with "Yang". This is his true and his evil. He is stubborn, acting like a stubborn stone, making mistakes and making mistakes. But the soul that allowed him to fall, and the compassion that he could not give up, was too close to the weakness that the world tried to hide, so for the spectator, no one could decisively make a stand.
At the beginning of the movie, it was really angry for me. Two nasty thieves, cowardly and incompetent bastards, their pants are full of shit, and neither shy fools, who got into trouble, of course will not take responsibility. In fact, I'm still very angry with the sloppy mother who left the stroller to buy coffee. Although she can be relieved by the "in case", she still cannot understand her complaints. Later, the movie traveled peacefully on the track of life, and seeing anxiety and uneasiness swallowing a person's soul, I began to sympathize with the thief Yang, also named Thomas, who had performed well in prison and was released early. Then I naturally forgot the mother who didn't know whether she was crazy or alive.
It’s not easy for people like Thomas to find a job. Seeing Thomas was rejected when he applied for the job, his sympathy overshadowed his hatred. This is the reason why people have sought truth and fairness for generations. Mortals always stand on the side of the weak. In Thomas's heart, the bishop must be a good person, just like the goddess Fu Anna infinitely respect and loyal to him. Anna, who gave birth to a child out of wedlock, was a reborn under the help of the bishop, and she would not have such a life when she changed to another bishop. There is no doubt that Thomas will also receive this grace. However, I clearly felt the doubts in the eyes of the victimized mother Agnes about the bishop's justice and love. This is speaking with human beings, not doctrine, and there is no untouchable God.
There is also a compromise that often appears in the dialogue between Thomas and Anna, debate and refutation. "All the questions that cannot be answered are God's will for you." Thomas, who has no religious beliefs, said to Anna. "Maybe I can become a priest because of my innocence." Anna replied innocently. At the end of the movie, Thomas said halfway through, "This is the will of God, and it is also the will of the Devil." I don't know how to understand the God in the heart of director Eric, this is also right. It was this film that gave me the charm of art and thought that I have never seen enough.
When did I see Agnes again? That should be the only part of the film that can separate the beautiful sea and sky. In addition, there are no noticeable cracks in the movie. All the pictures are interspersed in disorder, but can be explained in an orderly manner. The slow and lazy shots infected the eyes outside the painting, staying for a while, you can think about it for a while. The ethereal sound and light in the viewer's heart are like blue yingying lake water, and the filthy lake bottom is hidden under the clear water.
With a little dissatisfaction, Agni blamed her husband for his arbitrary relocation. The two adopted Asian little girls also felt uneasy in the unhappy family atmosphere. Anyway, the family was preparing to move to Denmark. . Agnes did not know that her husband had met Thomas, nor did Agnes' husband know what kind of hatred his wife had accumulated in her heart.
If a grievance is not over, it will be faced after all. Thomas did not want to talk about the past, nor did he want to see the Agnes family. But Agnes couldn't let it go, so the creditor needed to go out and collect the debt. Agnes’ husband did this, and later Agnes did it more thoroughly. In this process, when watching the film, the viewer is brought into the film in a very beautiful narrative structure.
Of course, this kind of story structure is really nothing new. Nowadays, feature films are looking for unconventional narrative methods. Don't make statements from beginning to end. Even if they are disassembled and fragmented, it is a breakthrough. This film is an exceptionally beautiful and seamless masterpiece of this kind of structured movie I have seen. The picture that comes in can be silent, which is really superb technical work. Eric Pope, who is admired as a talented Norwegian director, has honed his sword in four years, and he has finally paid off.
The slow-paced feature film, under the sign of redemption, is not easy for the audience to fully participate in the film. This film is easy to do, and it has the story itself, background music, camera editing and actors' acting skills. Surprising performance, is a very good movie.
