"Incendiary": Use hatred to dispel the shame of infidelity

The young woman’s husband is an expert in bomb disposal, and her family life is dull, with invisible rifts. Out of dissatisfaction with this state of husband and wife, when the woman was waiting for her husband to return from a mission in the bar, she was successfully struck up by newspaper reporter Black, and then she had an affair. Time passed boringly. On the way to watch a football match with her husband and son, the woman met Black, and instead of going to the gym, she went home with him. At the moment when the two of them were in the rain, they saw a live broadcast on TV: The stadium was attacked by a bomb and turned into a hell on earth. The woman's husband and son died on the spot. The rest of the story is the trauma caused by the shame in the treatment of the woman's feelings.

This is the plot of "Incendiary". Most of the movie is used to show the woman's self-blame and annoyance. She can't forgive herself and is in a state of madness. Through the memories of the past, mainly sons, and the montage editing of the present situation, a total collapse of women’s lives is created. Ashamed of this primitive power, she was heavily pressed in all corners of the city, which made her repeatedly walk on the edge of self-regulation when looking up at the huge balloon with photos of her son and husband. But all this gradually changed due to the act of writing letters.

The letter is the suggestion of the psychiatrist, suggesting that she write to Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the explosion, so as to express her thoughts, resentments and hopes. This writing process is processed into the narration of the movie, like a MV with text, accompanied by the main scene of the woman sinking, and thus presents the family life of the human bomb executor, as well as what the police knew one hour before the explosion. The explosion happened and so on. The latter clue was narrated by the woman's husband's colleagues. The man liked the woman and thought it was an opportunity.

Since the woman witnessed the tragedy on TV naked with unfaithful sex, the rest of the movie content is that she is drifting in the rapids of self-salvation. She completely alienated Black, the original temptation now looks like a great irony, but he became his resource for understanding the entire bombing. The woman learned of the school where the man played her son, approached the Asian boy, and appeared her son from time to time. Women want revenge, but there is no way to concentrate their due strength. She is also ups and downs in the pursuit of her husband's male colleague.

The demise of the woman without an owner took a turn for the better. This was the discovery of the secret of the bombing. That is, the British government knew that there was an explosion and did not stop it. The husband and male colleague who also watched the game left the game to save their lives. This contrast has aroused the first hatred of women, and this hatred is fair and legitimate, and the government (that is, the image of a husband and a male colleague) has begun to occupy a position of infidelity and shame. This is a turning point for women. After debunking the hypocrisy of unscrupulous suitors, she confirmed the first source of hatred, and she had the possibility of rebirth.

The source of the second kind of hatred is the legendary Bin Laden. Women treat him as a demon and continue to strengthen their awareness of this demon. While establishing the theme of anti-terrorism for the film, it has also been portrayed as a basis for women to forgive killers and their sons. This is a complex conversion chain that helps women remove the greatest obstacles created by infidelity. At this time, she found the right hatred, forgiveness and self-forgiveness became a kind of gift, she can use this to release her own moral censure.

All the shadows of infidelity have not been completely eliminated, and a woman must be sure that she has overcome Black's temptation. This kind of overcoming must be direct, thorough, and without the slightest nostalgia. This key means of expelling shame is mainly accomplished by a kind of illusory mental out-of-control. During this blank stage of self-control, women "reunite" with their sons (not their husbands) in the illusion, and women review all the virtues that a mother should have. When the woman chased her "son", she almost committed suicide but failed. The woman saves her impure body.

The greatest benefit of the son's "rebirth" after death is that the woman restores the mother's experience. With this accumulation, she can wash away the physical indulgence that Black brings. In this way, adding the above two levels of hatred, the woman can go back to the starting point, as if nothing happened. What is even more bizarre is that a woman has the religious elevation of alms and forgiveness, she is reborn and reborn. In my opinion, I don't think that the affair must bear this kind of pressure, so I doubt the sincerity of the film from the logical starting point of the film.

In any case, with the help of the hatred of bin Laden, the woman relieved the double guilt of not being able to accompany her son to death and being ashamed of her husband. She has Black's son (or her husband's son, anyway, it doesn't matter), and when the child is born, the role of a woman is like a complete change. With her innocent body, she can enter the cycle of mother-child love again. The son comes and the woman is born again, these two processes are combined into one. All the confusion and loss of women disappeared, and flowers bloomed on the roots of self-destruction.

Incendiary quotes

  • Young Mother: [last lines - narration] People thought it was the end of the world. But the world didn't end. So they rebuilt the city in 3 years, stronger and taller. London is a city built on the wreckage of itself, Osama. It's had more come backs than the evil dead. It's been flattened by storms and flooded out and rotted with plague. Even Hitler couldn't finish it off. Death nor flame was like hell, my grandmother said, just one endless sea of flames. But we built on the rubble, and we kept on coming like zombies. I *am* the city, Osama. I am the whole world. Murder me with bombs and I will only build myself again, and stronger. I'm too stupid to know better.

Young Mother: The Sun says you are an evil monster, but I don't believe in you, and I know it takes two to tango. I know you're vexed at the leaders of the western world. Well I'll be writing to them too.

Young Mother: [as baby is being born] I know you're a clever man, Osama. Much brighter than me. If I can make you see my son with all your heart for just one moment, I know you would stop making boy-shaped holes in the world - it would make you too sad. Love is not surrender, Osama. Love is furious and brave and loud. You could hear it in the noise my boy made when he played with his cars.

The Boy: [memory of him playing] Vroom! Vroom! Vroom!

Young Mother: I wish you could have heard him, Osama. That noise is the fiercest and the loudest sound on earth. It will echo 'til the end of time. It is more deafening than bombs. Come to me. Come to me and we'll blow the world back together with incredible noise and fury.

  • Terrence Butcher: At the end of the day, this is a war between two different species. I'm not paid to understand the mind-set, I'm paid to prevent.
