Compared with "This Is England", without the era environment of the Battle of Inmara Island, the breakdown and sadness are gone. Focusing on an inconspicuous place name, "Sumers Town" only tells the friendship and trust between two teenagers. The total length of the film is 68 minutes, and the length is so short that the director didn't bother to open the background of the characters, because it didn't reach it and didn't need it.
Tomo ran away alone, Marek lacked the warmth of the family. One is a stranger, a small devil. One is a new immigrant, taciturn. Because of a few photos, they quickly established a connection-Tomo took the photo of the beautiful woman in Marek's hands. After a period of chase, the two teenagers who lacked partners just got together. The photo is not just a prop, the Maria above becomes the highlight of the second half of the story. Two teenagers and a pretty girl, it seems that many bizarre stories can happen, and countless entanglements can occur, but "Sumers Town" is just a prose sketch, not even exquisite. It takes out the little emotions in daily life and brings some relaxed humor, more like improvisation.
Tomo is the "Bald Boy" Xiao En in "This Is England", and the performance of the little actor is still very arresting. On the train, I saw him starting to talk to the aunt next to him. The calm and old-fashioned tone was completely inconsistent with his age experience. For those of you who have watched "This Is England", that is actually his true color. Sure enough, he talked funny for a while, and then dressed in strange clothes, Tomo boldly continued the pursuit of boys and girls, intending to chase Maria. Such behaviors are generally called "anti-aircraft guns" or "surface-to-air missiles", and they are not so much romance as desire. Tomo and Marek both want to impress Maria's heart. For teenage boys, this kind of approachable and beautiful sister will undoubtedly be popular.
Tomo and Marek both wanted to please Maria. They didn't care about who came first and worked on the same line. Tomo is very straightforward. When he saw the photos, he praised him, and later came up with good ideas, and even showed his true feelings in the bathtub DIY. In contrast, Marek's approach to taking pictures of Maria is more serious and the same, and the differences in personalities between the two are further reflected. "Sumers Town" has a lot of ink on their three-person line, and the two segments of wheelchair transfer and meeting in Paris can be selected separately as highlights. With the wonderful music and the moving scenery, there is no longer the sadness of growth in "This Is England", only the joy of youth.
Maria plays an indispensable role of the opposite sex in the film. In fact, the youth of Tomo and Marek lack not only the same age, but also the existence of the opposite sex-even the mother, just as the middle-aged aunt appeared and disappeared quickly. Small shop owners, grocery merchants, Marek's father, even the uncles who yell at them, and roadside workers are all adult male roles. Fortunately, the two children who lacked family warmth did not become the little hooligans in the film. Another significance of Maria's existence is that she is a Parisian, an exotic woman. In Summers, they are all outsiders, and really want to analyze the interactive relationship established by the three people. In fact, they are also very fragile and not reliable, just like Maria's sudden departure. But fragility does not mean that communication is impossible. It can be seen that Marek has been with Tomo, and they want to be with Maria.
At this point, another information hidden in "Somers Town" should also be revealed, which is a transportation hub in London. There are rumors that the movie is a short film made by Sean Midas for the Eurostar Express. Strictly speaking, this statement is wrong. Because the business was not negotiated in the end, but the director came to the inspiration and decided to expand the original short film of only ten minutes into the length of a feature film. The existence of Eurostar did not affect the writing of the script. However, there are still stations and trains in the film, especially at the end, two teenagers come to Paris on Eurostar. Some people say it happened real, some people think it was a use of imagination. Obviously, this fantastic and beautiful color ending is open-ended, but the train journey that appears at the beginning and the end makes the film complete. At the beginning, Tomo came to Summers, and at the end they left. Sumers.
"Sumers Town" strung up some humble things and lacked strong conflicts. The exception was when his father bumped into his son when he was drunk, he went crazy. Later, the father understood his son's loss and became more aware of his own negligence. As for family disability, the film is usually handled like this. After all, it is only a part of life. Isn't it warm enough?
Gavin Clark sang all the episodes in the film, a soundtrack worth collecting. The last sentence of the ending song is sung like
this : This is only a small part of what we have lost, but we have picked up hope.
