I was not the one who died

Song Liling left in the end, leaving Renni alone in jail. The one-man show for a few minutes was his last life performance. At that moment, he was possessed by Mrs. Butterfly. Turn off the player, and I’m still playing back some plots in my mind. I admit that I was deeply attracted by this movie, and I don’t want to return to reality in general.
At the end of the movie, the protagonists changed their identities wonderfully. The original butterfly became a betrayer, and the person who might have become a heartless person became a butterfly. So far it doesn't matter whether the East or the West, men or women. Regardless of the times and international political background, I saw a person fall in love with another person. Although this person is not worthy of being loved, he still has no hesitation until he is destroyed.
Do you say it is desolate? Or is the whole play a total tragedy? I don't think that although we don't love to die in our lives, we still make love sacrifices. This is the same for everyone. But when those extreme states come, are you a butterfly or another person.
If you ask yourself this way, I think very few people will be butterflies. So I have no reason to blame Song Liling. His scheming, his step by step, his testimony in court, including his naked body and selfishly trying to summon the love he once had, are not sins. It's not that he has never been in love. I believe that when he and Renni are together, he is the real life. But he can't live by love. He wants to survive. A man who was born as an actor in the old society lives and suffers from the subversive situation. He made the smartest choice.
He is an extremely realistic person. He articulates his needs so clearly every time he contacts with the organization. He seized the good time to talk about his pregnancy, and he cleverly made this foreshadowing. The key to continuing to obtain intelligence. Such a person is weaving the most confusing illusion. I think he is divided, loving and betraying at the same time.
He said in the prison car: "I am your butterfly. Under the robe, behind everything, I have always been me. Tell me, you love me." Taking off his clothes, he finally became the real him, no more acting in disguise, no Need makeup and silk, begging for love in a nascent posture. But at the same time, the butterfly's dream was really broken between them.
Rennie is the ultimate romantic reverie, while Song Liling is a living person. He is realistic and deceptive, but in the end he can't escape the pursuit of love, just like you and me.
So in the end, can you be calm, that person who died in love is not me.

M. Butterfly quotes

  • Song Liling: The Oriental woman has always held a certain fascination for you Caucasian men. Is that not true?

Rene Gallimard: Yes, but that fascination is imperialist, or so you tell me.

Song Liling: Yes, it is always imperialist. Sometimes... sometimes it is also mutual.

  • Song Liling: I am slightly afraid of scandal.

Rene Gallimard: What are we doing that's scandalous?

Song Liling: I'm entertaining you in my parlor.

Rene Gallimard: Where I come from, that would hardly be construed as...

Song Liling: You come from France. France is a country living in the modern era, perhaps even ahead of it. China is a nation whose soul is firmly rooted 2000 years in the past. What I do - even pouring tea for you now - it has implications. Please go. Please, Monsieur Gallimard...
