The movie "Silence Light" is really boring. People who watch the movie with great patience like me watch it intermittently. Except for the pictures of sunrise at the beginning and sunset at the end, which are so beautiful that you are reluctant to leave, many of the pictures in the middle are almost stagnant. The movie elements seem to be straightforward and dull and lengthy. The vast plains of rural Mexico, a pair of characteristicless middle-aged couples, seven or eight children big and small that I have never counted, the hot summer afternoon... The dialogue in the whole film is probably very much in two hours. None of them arrived. It is comparable to the most depressing "Taste of Cherry" I have ever seen.
A housewife with a basket of children is betrayed by love. Her monologue is:
Once, I felt
that I was a part of the world, but now I have been stripped out, and
now everything is incomplete.
So she suffocated to death in the storm. Her husband held her stiffly and said to passers-by:
My name is Johan,
she is my wife, and
her name is Esther.
In the hard struggle of this couple, I feel that the lives of ordinary people, whether they are love, are full of tender compassion. They didn't have the magnificent passion, the courage to tear everything up, and the earth-shattering betrayal and fleeing. But clinging to the ground under their feet, like Ai Qing's poems, they have blood-lined tenderness for the land, and even their feathers rot here.
The final design turned out to be that the husband's lover came to visit the body of the mistress, gave her a gentle kiss, and then she shed tears and came back to life. Even so, the movie is not about highlighting a certain miracle, but about being very natural. It did not show the husband after seeing his wife resurrected. The children thought that their mother had just fallen asleep for a while and then woke up, so they naturally told her what happened during the day.
Even death and resurrection are so tender. I don’t know whether this is due to the religion of Mexico. In the movie, whether they are at the family table or working in the field, the prayers before the meal are very serious and religious.
What can’t be forgotten is the croaking of frogs, the sound of cicadas, the shining stars in the night sky, and the silent light between the sky and the earth...
