"The Harp of Burma" Japanese film master Chuan Kun

is a black and white film, and the film is as simple as black and white: Mizushima is the scout who explores the road, and the harp is his signal after he explores the road. On the eve of the Japanese armistice, he was ordered to notify the Japanese soldiers in a cave to surrender. After the refusal to land and was bombed, Mizushima was rescued by a Burmese monk. On the way back to the team, Mizushima saw the bodies of many Japanese soldiers. He buried them one by one, and finally decided to stay in Myanmar. On the ship returning from the captured Japanese soldiers, the captain read the letter from Mizushima, expressing his longing for his comrades, his love for the motherland, and the belief that he would stay to guard the souls of the fallen soldiers.
The whole film runs through the music of the harp, among which the American song "Lovely Home" appears repeatedly. The film shows the destruction of life by war and the indestructible humanity in life. World War II produced such an excellent film. In this sense, the war was not in vain.
Thinking of the wars China has encountered since modern times, it is enough and miserable. However, how many films have been produced so far that are worth watching, worthy of distribution in the world, and popular for future generations? hardly.
Chinese literature and art have not yet shaken off the entanglement of political rapists. Under power politics, artistic creativity is difficult to produce, and artistic charm is difficult to produce. What's more, commercial rapists are now added. The two criminals were raped together, the Chinese goddess of literature and art was dying, and the film beauties were especially covered with syphilis.
Art is the flower of suffering. After such a long period of bitter cold, Meixiang could not be produced. In this sense, the suffering was in vain.

The Burmese Harp quotes

  • Subtitles: [Last lines] The soil of Burma is red, and so are its rocks!

  • Captain Inouye: [Excerpt from Mizushima's letter, which Captain Inouye reads to his men as they sail back to Japan] As I climbed mountains and crossed streams, burying the bodies left in the grasses and streams, my heart was wracked with questions. Why must the world suffer such misery? Why must there be such inexplicable pain? As the days passed, I came to understand. I realized that, in the end, the answers were not for human beings to know, that our work is simply to ease the great suffering of the world. To have the courage to face suffering, senselessness and irrationality without fear, to find the strength to create peace by one's own example. I will undergo whatever training is necessary for this to become my unshakable conviction.
