Direct spoiler, don't watch it if you haven't watched the movie.
Let’s talk about horror first,
The first half is a relatively common haunting routine, and the plot is interspersed with some hints. You can only realize what you are talking about when you see the second half.
In my opinion, there is no ghost at all in the whole play, but the male protagonist’s psychological guilt is concretized in the system, otherwise it cannot be explained that the ghost will finally call him to Remember and help the soldiers against the German soldiers, because the doctor family subconsciously It is their allies.
Then how do you explain that the ghost is also calling him to remember?
In fact, from the way the ghost appeared, to the death of the German army, and the content of the diary, the ghost film did not harm the soldiers (except for the communicator's hand). The only thing they did was to reproduce the memory fragments and wake up. Afghan memory of soldiers. The essence is the subconscious suggestion of the male protagonist to himself. This part is the painful memory of the five soldiers, because the doctor felt guilty for not saving. In order to eliminate the guilt, the painful memory tends to guide the soldiers to return to Afghanistan and choose to redeem their sins. This also explains why the ghost keeps using actions to wake up the soldiers without attacking them.
And the other part of the subconscious uses Morse code to imply that I will die if I leave here. Obviously it does not mean leaving this castle, let alone a bed for spiritual recuperation in the real world, but referring to the wall of Afghanistan, which is the same as leaving the memory of World War II. Going to Afghanistan is essentially one thing, and going back and choosing again is a dead end. This part of the subconscious mind represents the instinct to survive and resist returning to Afghanistan.
Survival instincts and painful memories are seen back and forth, so the male protagonist enters the system and always returns to World War II, but it is also mixed with a lot of scene fragments from Afghanistan.
The results of the subconscious and real world choices are the same. The soldiers in the real world also gave up coming forward and chose to witness the brutal killing of the doctor's family and bear a heavy sense of guilt. In the subconscious, the soldiers resisted returning to Afghanistan, and chose to stay in the memory of World War II to face the torture of the ghosts.
When the hero once again entered the World War II dream, he asked the black shadow behind the tree smoking a cigar What do you want? I personally understand that this is an expression of redemption and compensation, and I will ask if I make a mistake or owe it. So obviously, Sombra was the doctor, and the doctor didn't say a word, and threw the cigar to the male lead, lighting up the flames. it goes without saying. The ghost, or painful memory, still tends to awaken his memory.
As for this will be an endless loop? I don't think it will. This is a confrontation between instinct and human nature. In the end, I believe that human nature will defeat instinct and soldiers will return to Afghanistan.
Faced with the crushing of enemy numbers and equipment, it is not a problem that can be solved by a few brave soldiers.
At this point, I remembered two things,
The first is the famous "tram car problem", who is to choose to die by turning the handle? Regarding this question, I think that people should not have the power to play the role of death, because no matter how they choose is wrong, no matter how they choose, they will be burdened with sin. The war gave a large number of ordinary people the power to play the role of death.
The second is anti-war. It is hard to say who is right and who is wrong in war. For sports and terrorist organizations in certain places, will armed intervention really have a positive effect? In fact, the best choice is not to have the opportunity to choose.
