Short thoughts

I know this documentary and the book Becoming because of the blog "Small Noise".

The documentary is more of a collection of publicity speech clips, telling about Michelle’s personal growth experience, birth family, husband, father, children, and even fashion (though I feel that this part is very awkward). Michelle in the documentary is very energetic, so at the end of the film I was surprised when she said she was running for six. Nevertheless, the precipitation of the years did make her temperament different from when she was young. She lived a box-checker life when she was young, until she met Obama, had children, and moved into the White House. In the course of this journey, she has been searching for and identifying herself.

The part that moved me the most was probably that she realized that her husband's ambitions swept through her life like a tornado, and that she "does not want to be an accessory to his dreams", constantly improving and changing herself. Even if he doesn’t like politics, he will help her husband to run for the election. If he is successful in his career, he has to make concessions for his family. Even the details of impromptu speeches will be interpreted maliciously and have to be "conformist"... All of this is really uncontrollable. In general, even though she is already a First Lady, she is already a very good woman at some level, but she still faces pressure and distress due to gender issues. At the same time, Michelle also said that the restraints and the indispensable caution in life in the White House are like drawing Trump’s face [laughs

There is also a memorable segment. When the aboriginal students were deeply troubled by Trump's coming to power, Michel suggested from his own experience that they should be firm in their hearts, continue to live their lives, and strive to receive a good education. Her sincerity and encouragement at the meeting made me cry frequently, but after all, the time limit did not include too many details in the documentary, which is really a pity.

In consistent thinking, the role of the first lady in American politics is often overlooked, so Michelle’s memoir has become a good opportunity. As a woman with an independent personality, Michelle’s life experience And the philosophy of life can undoubtedly give me a lot of inspiration. I hope I can have the opportunity to finish reading the book sooner.

Becoming quotes

  • Michelle Obama: Your story with highs and lows, what seems so ordinary and seems like nothing to you, is your power.

  • Michelle Obama: Get back on what track? It's a whole new track. It's not goin' back. You know it's all different, and it's different forever. So it's not getting back on track but its creating my next track... I'm doing what you're doing. I'm figuring out, "What do I want to do? What do I care about?" And it takes time to process your life and figure out what it all means. So little of who I am happened in those eight years. So much more of who I was happened before."
