"Waiting for the Barbarians" is a novel adaptation at first glance. The structure of the story is complete. More importantly, this structure serves as a platform and a carrier, carrying typical characters under the typical environment of the British Empire and North Africa colonial rule, and carrying a profound collision of ideas. And question thinking. The clashes of ruling styles, civilization and barbarism within the rulers revealed through character conflicts involve deep-seated issues such as history, civilization development, and governance management. The sheriff stayed far away from the British mainland. He did not deal with the problem. Instead, he loved the historical civilization of the area under his jurisdiction, understood the ups and downs of historical changes, adopted an enlightened and generous governance posture, and tried his best to maintain the peace of the party. The sheriff's meticulous care of the girl with the broken ankle was a bit perverted, but on the whole it was quite positive, and his mental arithmetic was exhausting. The commander of the dispatch army who is also performing tasks away from his hometown has a great contrast with the sheriff in the attitude of the colonial people. The main reason is the deviation of cognition and the arrogance of being a ruler. The film portrays the images of these two British characters very vividly, and indirectly proves that being serious, pragmatic and flexible is the correct attitude to deal with problems. On the contrary, the tyranny carried out in a week will take several years to subside. Jagged is used by tyranny to brag about oneself, but it's actually stupid. You can also see the development of civilization in barbaric areas through movies. Western colonialism used violence to bring civilization to barbaric areas and promoted the development of local politics, economy, and culture. This is ironic in itself. History is so cruel and comical, but everyone must accept it and face it squarely. There are opinions now that the struggle should be carried out through the form set by the system. Educated, enlightened, and law-abiding people are expensive, not those who have a record and are using counterfeit money. The so-called barbarians in the movie don't know how to cooperate with such enlightened sheriffs. Sometimes they really cooperate well with tyranny inadvertently. This is history.
