"The Flower in the Attic" is a modern gothic, dark fairy tale-like alternative work. The filming is very special and unforgettable.

At the beginning of the film is a happy family scene: a couple, a big boy, a big girl, a pair of babies, six people live in a big house and lead a prosperous life. But the good times didn't last long, the male owner died unexpectedly, and the whole family immediately lost their financial support, so they could only sell the house to take refuge in the grandmother who had never met.

The grandmother's house is a large manor, played by Louise Fletcher, who is the terrible head nurse in "Flying Over the Madhouse". She holds the Bible in her hand and has a stern face. Naturally, the family can't get good fruits! The four children were locked in the attic, and the mother was subjected to family law, and the whipped skin was broken. The mother said that grandpa was about to die. She used to ran away from home and made him angry, so this time she should take care of him and make up for it. Fortunately, he will be deprived of the inheritance right after he died.

But what grandma said to the children was shocking like a bolt from the blue. It turned out that there was an incestuous ambiguity between my mother and grandpa, and the grandmother discovered it and severely prevented it, but my mother took the opportunity to elope with her uncle! Those children turned out to be the product of incest, and it's no wonder that grandma was so ruthless to them. This is an intolerable fact!

Grandma agreed with the children to stay, but she could only stay in a room on the top floor and the attic above, and could not move downstairs because she could not be seen by her grandpa. Grandpa did not know the existence of these evildoers and was afraid that he would be stimulated. In order to inherit the inheritance in the future, the children had to commit themselves to the attic and wait for the death of grandpa.

Day by day, month by month, grandpa is still alive, and the children are still struggling in the attic. Mothers rarely come to visit them, and the children gradually discover that a conspiracy is taking place. In fact, the worst person is not the grandmother, but the mother, the green tea that looks like a white lotus.

One day the two older children quietly went downstairs into the mother’s room and found that she had been living a luxurious life. They also found a rich man to remarry. What’s more terrifying was that they had become the mother’s way to the noblewoman. Obstacles must be cleared immediately!

The strange death of the little brother made the children completely chilled towards the mother. At the mother's wedding ceremony, they wanted to expose her crimes on the spot. Behind the glitz is such an ugly human nature, and the magic of money can make family relationships become obscure! The ending of the movie makes people shudder.

The film is full of nonsense, between father and daughter, and brother and sister, challenging the audience's moral bottom line. But these feelings are not directly expressed, and they are always shrouded in an ambiguous atmosphere. The plot is also distorted like a fairy tale, which makes people feel a little unrealistic, but it seems full of reason.

"The Flower in the Attic" is based on the Virginia C. Andrews novel of the same name. It was also remade in a TV movie in 2014. Interested friends can also watch the new version, but you won’t see Fletcher’s frightening interpretation. Yes, they have won the Oscar for Best Actress!
