You know, one of the things we do miss about Barack Obama is that he would get out into the country, he would campaign around hope, and he would fill arenas, and then people would come out and remember, “Yeah! I do like this!" And people would be surrounded with each other, of all different backgrounds and they would go, "Yeah! I am not alone in this. I like this feeling of not being divided. I do." If we would open up a little bit more to each other and share our real stories, that's what breaks down barriers. But in order to do that, you have to believe your story has value, be vulnerable and dare to be vulnerable.

We are at a crossroad of where we have to think about, “who are we as a nation?” I remain hopeful that people want better, if not for themselves, then for the next generation. And that is my basic joy, you know , it gets back to mentoring others.

  • Michelle Obama: Get back on what track? It's a whole new track. It's not goin' back. You know it's all different, and it's different forever. So it's not getting back on track but its creating my next track... I'm doing what you're doing. I'm figuring out, "What do I want to do? What do I care about?" And it takes time to process your life and figure out what it all means. So little of who I am happened in those eight years. So much more of who I was happened before."
