Russian film science fiction movies generally have big scenes in Europe and the United States, but they have the short-circuit storytelling ability of Chinese movies. Therefore, in the previous blockbusters in Russia, there are not many blockbusters that can match the scenes and plots. However, this "Other World" has a very good look and feel, and there is no peeing point in the whole process.
First of all, the biggest name of this film is the religious leader Yang, a big boss with a beard and calm eyes, who plays Konstantin Lavronenko, one of the few old faces in the Russian film industry. He also won Cannes. Actor for the best actor. With this, I recommend his other two excellent films, one is "Return 2003" is great, the other is the Russian national drama "Ekaterina the Great". This uncle-level male actor often puts a calm, steady, and solid look on the movie. No matter how the plot goes, he is always born with this kind of aura!
Back to the movie, the biggest highlight in this movie is undoubtedly the grand dream world constructed with special effects. This world is different from a simple alien continent, but rather strange and flowing. Every shot of the movie is like an oil painting of an anomaly. From the fragmented streets, to Chinatown, to the water city of Venice, the jump is very big. In the end, the scene composition of "Inception" and "Doctor Strange" where the world is upside down and mixed, can be regarded as a bright spot. The chase shots in this scene are slightly less.
The second highlight of the film is the story's reversal of reality. It uses people's sorrow and difficulties in reality to create a utopian world. When the big boss explained the motives of building this world, it was indeed like a cult leader, telling the world how to liberate, how to sublimate, how to surpass oneself, and how to realize self-worth. This display of humanity and practical significance has heightened the overall pattern of the story. At the same time, as mentioned above, it can match its special effects.
However, if you want to study it carefully, there is still something wrong with the story. First, the love between the hero and the heroine in the film is too fast. According to the initial setting of the story, the heroine should be a kind of high demand for her boyfriend, rather than the one who throws in her arms three minutes after meeting. Maybe she has the brilliance of a mother who sympathizes with the weak, but she is far from seeing a man with talent, so she can't help but kisses her, and she is still next to the body of other people's girlfriend; second, they fled according to the calculations of astronomers. According to the big boss’s intention, he wants the male lead to build an island. It stands to reason that the fewer people who know the better, why bother to flee with the people who he doesn’t value himself? This obviously adds resistance to his own plan. He also lost his faithful believers in another world! In addition, there is no need to promote an astronomer to the leader, increasing the risk of travel. Judging from the final finale, the big boss can be solved by the alien monster in a dream. He will not completely ignore this factor and increase his risk by himself. There is a big contradiction before and after this.
Third, from the point of view of the whole film, it is a bit anticlimactic. The suspense, plot, and rhythm in the front are all great. It's a rare blockbuster, but as it goes to the back, whether it is the construction of the picture or the transition of the characters, it seems a little irritable and passes quickly. In the second half, since the male protagonist went to explore the road and encountered an airplane, there were some highlights when the male protagonist returned to the hospital with his girlfriend and astronomers, and the rest were basically a bit squiggly.
On the whole, compared to the current movies, the film is indeed relatively good, and there are many things to do with it. I give four stars in total: one star for story creativity, one star for special effects, one star for Konstantin Lavronenko, and one star for the Russian film industry. As a friendly relationship between China and Russia to help neighbors, I sincerely hope that they will continue to consolidate their storytelling capabilities while shooting major scenes in Europe and the United States, and produce more good movies in the future.
