A little thought

What impressed me most was the scene where everyone in the refuge prayed loudly with the Lord’s Prayer. Our Father in heaven, may everyone honor your name, may your kingdom come, and may your will be done on earth as Walking in the sky, our daily food and beverages are given to us today to forgive our debts, just as we forgave people’s debts, so that we will not encounter temptations and save us from evil, because the kingdom, authority, and glory are all yours Forever……

If it hadn’t been seen in the movie, I would never have thought that this passage of the Lord’s Prayer would be so difficult for people in that era to read it. They lacked food and clothing, and sincerely prayed to Heavenly Father for today’s food. In the face of the persecution of officers and soldiers, they may be burned alive or killed in the Colosseum, but they said-Forgive us our debts, just as we forgave people’s debts, praying that we should not be tempted , Save us from evil, even when faced with the questioning and ridicule of those who do not believe-where is your God, and if he is true, why would he let you fall into such a situation...by their obedience and faith Moved, even under such persecution, they are still willing to love and forgive, because this is the teaching of Jesus. In that one, there is no future, no hope, and even in my opinion, such a life is not worth living at all. In the days when they were eagerly looking forward to the coming of the kingdom of God, even if they were burned to death and whipped, they did not change their beliefs—this is true belief.

Compared with this, the days of contemporary Christians are really too comfortable, so that when I think of things that I have always regarded as "tempting" and "persecution", I can't help but lament my shallowness. In such an era, being a Christian is really a very, very happy thing compared to the background in the film. Since those early Christians in the film can practice the teachings of Jesus in this way, and hold on to it. Faith, in this day and age, what are the temptations, temptations, persecutions, and challenges that are insurmountable? Are those lessons of Christ really so difficult to follow? Are those problems really that big? I have paid too little for my faith, but I have always felt that I have paid a "very high" price. I spend more time reading and praying and I think it is "enough", which is actually quite ridiculous. May my Holy Spirit help me, hold on to this little touch in my heart, and be able to truly trust this God and obey God in the days to come.

Paul, Apostle of Christ quotes

  • Mauritius Gallas: If it were the only truth everyone would believe it.

Luke: Not so. Christ, who is truth, rose from the dead, many do not believe.

    Mauritius Gallas: Lies, fabrications...

Paul: If Christ had not risen from the dead, then our preaching is useless, and so is our faith.

Mauritius Gallas: Oh, you have no doubts at all?

Paul: Men do not die for things they doubt.

  • Paul: Imagine yourself looking out at the vast sea before you. You reach down and put a hand into the water and you scoop it up towards you. Immediately the water starts leaking through your fingers until the hand is empty. That water is a man's life. From birth to death it is always slipping through our hands until it is gone, along with all that you hold dear in this world. And yet the Kingdom I speak of - that I live for - is like the rest of the water out in the sea. Man lives for that cup of water that slips through his fingers. Those that follow Jesus Christ live for that endless expanse of sea.

Mauritius Gallas: What if, after all this, I still do not believe in your Christ?

Paul: I wasn't trying to convince you.

    [laughs]

Paul: Listen to me. There is only a moment. It is not me. It is Christ himself that looks upon you and shatters your defenses and in that moment you will understand that you are completely known by God... and you are completely loved. I will pray that moment comes for you.
