Fairy Salvation

I saw a movie recently and I was very urge to talk about it, but I don't know where to start. I think this is mostly due to the lack of brains of this movie, it seems that it was not born for people to grasp, but I don't believe this is caused by the confusion of the director's thinking. This movie is not deep-I only know that it is not deep, and it is impossible to draw a range of its depth. I always feel that it has so much uncertainty. What I like is its unconcealable barrenness and alienation, but the director is not compassionate when expressing this emotion. You can’t even know what the director’s attitude is, whether it’s so-called or it doesn’t matter—yes, so I’m caught up in it. This kind of cold stings, and hope it will sting all those who are numb and wanton. The name of the movie I’m talking about is "Straw Dogs", not the violent classic "Strawn Dogs" by Sam Perkins, but "Lawn Dogs" directed by John Duigan in 1997 (Note: When writing this thing, I I don’t know that the official translation of this movie is called "The Days of Dog Face").

At a glance, it is easy to think of it as a beautiful spring movie. Isn’t it? That small town is as beautiful as the world of Tim Burton. The innocent little girl tells fairy tales wherever she goes. There was a difficult dive on the bridge during the rush hour. I couldn't help but admire: What a rash person! It is a pity that this is all an illusion. Those who desire to fly the most are often the first to be broken their wings by life. The lawn mower lives alone in the woods, so in the little girl’s fairy tales, he becomes a magical wizard; and in this stubborn world, he is just a stranger who has been insulted and harmed. The gun squatted in jail, but his unfortunate experience closed him up and no longer believed in the world. But there is always constant contact that pushes people into an awkward situation, just like all escapers who desire to enjoy the ultimate loneliness, it is difficult to completely escape the shadow of the existence of others, and this may be a very limited little contact. He kept sprinkling salt on the wound.

At first, the communication between the lawn mower and the residents of the town was separated by a barrier, and then as rumors that were not conducive to him spread, the picture became anxious, and all the spearheads were directed at him. I clearly see the terrible habitual thinking of people in society: you are not gregarious, you are different from us, so you must have a ghost! This kind of inexplicable hatred was born directly from selfishness and conjecture. Once again, I saw the ugliness of human nature. Whenever I see this kind of movie, I always feel cold and desperate. I think of Goethe's words: Misunderstandings and prejudices often create more faults in the world than deceit and malice.

Is it wrong for a person to choose to live alone? Isn't it the cruel human society that cuts off the tentacles that we seek to embrace? The film consciously attributed the alienation of people to the injustice of the society and the inhumanity of the state apparatus, the innocent incident of being injured and arrested by the police through the lawn mower, and his father, a Vietnam War veteran, was full of joy. Collecting the national flag, but the government has never sympathized with the pain caused by the war. The film pointed out these problems sharply (it's almost like a desertion, it suddenly went in this direction), but without obvious criticism, it just stared coldly.

Only the little girl is the only trusted friend of the lawn mower. She opened his heart without much effort, either because of the scars on both of them, or because of the scars on their hearts. It's hard to explain the trauma of this small little girl. I think she belongs to a special category, just like the little girl in "Killer Leon". In short, the two people are very harmonious, stealing chickens together, and dancing together on the roof of the car, but these little adventures and pranks seem to be fun in hardship no matter how they look. The ominous signs have been lurking there, and they can't be dispelled.

The ones most likely to be regarded as villains in the film are the two dudes. One of them seems to have some kind of ambiguous relationship with the lawn mower. The two first attacked and injured the lawn mower. From here on, the protagonist seemed to be driven to a dead end. I always felt that the sudden turn was too sudden. I thought he would continue to be slaughtered, but I didn't expect that he would retaliate, let alone that the dog was the target of his revenge. My feelings for him, which were originally identification and sympathy, have become unclear here. I know that originally there is no absolute good, absolute evil, so I will not judge him, but seeing this twisted revenge, there is always regret and a trace of fear in my heart.

The little girl was taken advantage of and helped the angry people find him. The owner of the dog-two "bad" youths, the little girl's father, and the old policeman all came. He was beaten to death (Judging from the terrible consequences of people’s actions driven by self-righteous thoughts, this is an out-and-out violent movie), the little girl came to rescue him, and she shot him with a gun. Quasi own father. She gave the lawnmower a towel and a comb, climbed up the tree that she had always wanted to climb, and continued to tell her fairy tale: He drove across the bridge, and if he found a wizard chasing him, he would throw out the towel and be behind him. The river will rise over the bridge to block the wizard; if the wizard is still chasing, he will throw out the comb, and a forest will burst out behind him to block the wizard. Finally, he was free and lived happily.

Yes, this is the bright ending of the movie. Begins with fairy tales and ends with fairy tales. But to me as a pessimist, it is not bright at all, and it does not seem like the ending.
