Q: The overall tone of this work is very bright and cheerful!

Is Edible Hirokazu: I especially want to create a work that feels more cheerful after reading. Although the upper part cannot be said to end in tragedy, this time I entered the shooting scene with the determination to shoot my most relaxed work so far.

Q: Why did you choose Ethan Hawke to play with two famous French actresses this time?

It is Kee Hirokazu: Because I think he will be the actor who most wants to act in this play. After seeing his work with director Richard Linklater, I thought he would be very interested in the content this time. And Catherine Deneuve also likes him as an actor. Before officially deciding to use Ethan, she told me, "I imagined the other person as Ethan when I read the script."

Q: Did you talk to Hawke before starting up?

It's Hirokazu Ee: At the beginning, he asked me "Why does Hunk, who I play, go to France specially?". It is very important for actors to have doubts. She often asked me questions when working with teacher Shu Xilin. "Hunk wants his mother to see that he has a happy family", "In fact, he has quit drinking" and so on. These contents were all added after my discussion with Ethan. In order to show Hunk's weakness, Ethan said it was easy for him to enter the role.

Q: Why did you choose Manon Kravel after the audition?

It's Kee Hirokazu: Because of his voice. I also changed the Manon in the film to a setting with a hoarse voice.

Q: Then why did you choose Ludwin Senier?

It is Kee Hirokazu: Because she liked my work very much originally, I have slightly modified the original work to suit her better.

Q: How did you deal with the differences in culture and habits when you wrote the script?

It's Hirokazu Ee: When I showed the first draft to the producers, they gave me opinions such as "We don't use this statement", "The setting here is wrong", and so on. I revised my original manuscript based on these comments. Although they have also told me that children of this age will not sleep in the same bed with their parents, and that French elderly people will not care about stairs and so on even if they are over 70 years old, but I did not listen to them completely.

Q: This time, the shooting seems to be 8 novels in one day, and there are weekends. Isn’t it regular?

Is Edible Hirokazu: In France, filming or watching is a daily routine. In Japan, everyone eats and sleeps together from the beginning of prayer, as if it were a celebration. Personally, I never fell ill during the shooting, so it should be said that it was the right way, but of course there will be a flaw in the beauty of being in a good condition today and wanting to take one more shot.

Q: Has your way of directing changed?

It is Edema Hirokazu: Same as so far. Initially, I was going to change it. But Juliet Binoche told me that it takes three weeks for her to fully integrate herself into the role, so I hope I don’t change the script yesterday and give it to her on the day of filming. Although I promised her at the time, I broke my promise not long after the shooting started. Binoche said she gave up on me. (laugh)

Q: How did Deneuve react to your modification of the script?

It's Hirokazu Ee: Deneuve came to the set during the day and watched the script while putting on makeup, so it didn't matter to her whether the script was changed or not. She would call me over and ask me "how do I say that for this part of today?". That's how the line that looked at Manon's eyes and said "Like a deer" came from. She will give me many suggestions. Same as Mr. Xilin.

Q: How are the two famous actors on set?

It's Hirokazu Ee: As for Deneuve, no matter what shot you take, there will definitely be a great one. This is really amazing. And she herself knows this. When she shoots a great one, she herself will be very happy and say "this time is very good~". In the days of "I have a dinner date at 8 o'clock tonight", she will reach this point sooner. (Laughs) This is completely the opposite of Nosh. Even if a perfect one has been taken, she still thinks if she can do better and tries many times.

Q: The two scenes of the dispute and reconciliation between the mother and daughter are two climaxes, right?

It's Hirokazu Ee: During the dispute, Rumial's emotions accumulated to a burst point during the day, and how the mother who was angered by her daughter slowly counterattacked to show a kind of vulnerability is the key point. The reconciliation paragraph was about how to reverse the design of the mother and daughter who returned to the actress status after hugging. I wrote this paragraph during the filming. I took a few shots and re-edited it to get the current one. Effect.

Q: How about Eric Gautier, the director of photography?

It's Kee Hirokazu: Very powerful. The photos of people and space are very refreshing. I wanted to take a few shots, but I didn't expect him to complete it in one shot. Although it requires a lot of movement, all the work is very accurate and excellent.

Q: What about music?

It is Edema Hirokazu: This time I hope to use some music that makes people feel happy. After listening to a few demos sent, I finally invited Aleksai. Take the zoo as the theme. It feels like the music played when granddaughters come to play in the lively world of adults who have been turned into animals by Fabiana.

Q: Deneuve at the end of the film is also very beautiful.

It is Kee Hirokazu: No one is more suitable for leopard print than her. (laugh)
