Shakespeare’s characters are always in love

I just watched "Ophelia in the Water" at the museum last week, and I remembered this Shakespearean work I mentioned when I was studying drama history. Looking at the experience with these backgrounds may be different than those who have not seen the original. When looking at the painting, stop quietly for at least ten minutes, slowly feeling the love and hatred of this woman in every stroke. The film cast is well chosen, and the dramatic tension is also good. After all, it is a story viewed from another angle, more feminine and more emotional. The camera’s ability to capture the characters can still be better. When you look at it, the emotions float up and down along with the story, but they always look forward to a stronger visual impact, but what they show up makes people feel like they’re just ending up. For example, the scene of a duel or Ophelia's feelings after losing her father. The performance of the heroine is actually very good, showing the girl's enthusiasm for falling in love, the anxiety of discovering the secret, and the fear of knowing the truth. But compared with the male protagonist, I always feel a bit inconsistent. Although Hamlet's character itself is extreme, it is a movie after all. The male protagonist's performance is said to be dramatic but not extreme enough. Movies seem to be exaggerated and have a dilemma. Here comes back to the problem of the lens above. It should have helped strengthen these emotional ups and downs and the collision of the plot. However, both the close-up and the long-distance are still too close, and it is inevitable that it is not enough to be enjoyable.

Finally, I still recommend the original works and paintings. After all, the classics have a reason to become classics.

  • [first lines]

Ophelia: You may think you know my story. Many have told it. It has long passed into history... into myth.

Ophelia: I have seen more of heaven and hell than most people dream of. But I was always a willful girl, and followed my heart, and spoke my mind. And it is high time I should tell you my story myself.
