"Blood Diamonds" movie drama

text / (U.S.) Edward Zwick, Marshall Herskovitz
translated / Fulan

Affected by the border war in the region near Liberia, social conflicts in Sierra Leone intensified in the 1990s, and the political situation was fiercely turbulent. In 1991, the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) led by Foday Sankoh took the opportunity to launch a rebellion, gradually expanding its power and occupying the southeastern part of Sierra Leone, which is rich in diamond mines. Liberia is widely regarded as the diamond smuggling channel and main weapon supplier of the Revolutionary United Front in Sierra Leone. Since the beginning of the civil war, Liberia has been acting as a treasurer, teacher and friend of the Revolutionary United Front. Between 1991 and 2002, a brutal 10-year civil war broke out in Sierra Leone, where the Revolutionary United Front committed terrible crimes, not only using terror against the people, but also controlling the country’s diamond mines. The 10-year war claimed 100,000 lives, thousands of people were amputated due to torture by the Revolutionary United Front, and 500,000 Sierra Leoneans were forced to flee the country. In this turmoil, diamonds have always played a very important role. Ambassador Ibrahim Kamara, the country’s permanent representative to the United Nations, once said at a UN meeting: “The conflict in Sierra Leone is not caused by ideological differences and ethnic and regional differences. The root cause of the conflict is and will continue. It’s diamonds, diamonds and diamonds.” The
movie “Blood Diamonds” is adapted from “Blood Diamonds: Tracing the Deadly Path of the World’s Most Expensive Gem” published in 2002 by American journalist Greg Campbell. World's Most Precious Stone). "Blood diamonds" are called "Conflict Diamonds" in legal terms. According to the United Nations definition, they refer to diamonds produced in areas controlled by forces or factions opposed to internationally recognized legal governments. These diamonds are used To fund military operations that oppose these governments or violate the decisions of the Security Council. Although the United Nations definition does not make it clear that "conflict diamonds" come from Africa, so far, there have been no examples of "conflict diamonds" in countries on other continents. The "conflict diamonds" in Africa mainly come from Angola, Sierra Leone and Congo (DRC). ——Editor's Note

1. Interior view of the shed Before dawn
, the hand of a strong, rough man lit the firewood under the kettle with a match. The pre-dawn sky shines through the cracks in the iron plate wall and casts it on some very old farm tools: hoes, pickaxes, axes, and a pair of ox yokes. Totems and charms hang on the wall. This is a typical Mende farmhouse. In just a book
shelf with a few books in English textbooks.
The hand that lit the firewood took the textbooks from the shelf and used them to gently awaken a 14-year-old boy. The boy's name was Dia, and he hummed sleepily and didn't want to wake up. Solomon Vandy leaned close to his son with a smile.
Solomon (German, subtitles): You don't want to be late.
The boy sat up, still half asleep and half awake.
He put his shirt on his head sleepily. It is obviously him who is receiving English education, not his father.
Dia (German, subtitles): Do British children go to school every day?
Solomon used a tinplate tank to make a tank of milk powder. This is a gentle and patient Mende farmer, wearing a pair of torn pants and a white cotton shirt. He handed the jar to the boy.
Solomon (German, subtitles): Of course, heaven.
Dia (German, subtitles): Not every day.
Solomon (German, subtitles): Go to school every day, just like you are now. You can become a doctor in the future, and you don't need to suffer from the ass of a cow like your father.
Dia saw her mother who was breastfeeding her little brother, looking up at him. The 12-year-old sister Niyangda nestled next to her mother and stuck her tongue out at her brother.
Solomon (continued): Don't worry. She will go to school with you next year.
Mother Jesse watched the father and son go out.
Jesse (German, subtitles): Be careful on the road.
Solomon made a "get it" expression.

2. The exterior view of the shed village
Solomon and Dia appeared in the faint morning light. Their shack is located in a small village surrounded by small cassava fields opened in the jungle.
Dia: I don't want to be a doctor. (Dia walks out of Solomon's sight) I want to be president!
Solomon put his arms around Dia. The two walked towards the field.
The credits show
Solomon working in the fields.

3. This is a picture of uncertain time, showing the beauty and simplicity of the countryside.

4. At noon, Jesse and Niyangda are having lunch.
They were sitting in the shade of a huge baobab tree.

5. Dia came home with her schoolbag. Dia worked with his father.

6. As the sun sets, they walk back to the village.
At the end of the
credits, Solomon stood motionless, feeling that things were not good... Several chickens ran away, but there was no cry. The two cows in the yoke struggled in panic.
Solomon: Go inside the house... Hurry up!
Dia didn't know what happened. Solomon pushed him into the shed, when a group of teenage armed rebels ran aggressively, one of them wearing a Tupac (Note 1) shirt, using an AK-47 automatic rifle to shoot everything around him wantonly : Thatched huts, livestock, people.
Solomon fell to the ground. The villagers screamed and fled, all around, there was chaos. Two muddy open-top trucks, loaded with armed rebels from the Revolutionary United Front, rushed through the bushes, and the rebels jumped out of the car-shouting, brandishing machetes and automatic rifles, and their naked upper bodies crossed. With a bullet belt slung, don't wear a grenade on your belt.
Solomon curled up and looked around desperately while avoiding the bullets flying around. A group of men and boys were surrounded. The hut was set on fire. Suddenly he was grabbed by the two insurgents and dragged him away...
Jesse ran out of the shack with the child in his arms and chased him desperately.
Jesse: Solomon!
Solomon turned his head and yelled two words loudly: Run!
But she didn't run away, she just stood and shouted his name. At this time Solomon's son and daughter also ran out of the hut.
Dia: Dad!
Solomon was dragged away by the barrel.
Solomon: Run!
Jesse grabbed Dia's arm. Dia threw off his arm and stared at his father sadly. Jesse pulled him, took two younger children, and fled with the others.
Solomon watched them disappear into the bushes.

7.
Solomon and some other men were circled in one place. Most of them are elderly and frail people and frightened children. There are only a few young and strong people.
The rebels supervised them with guns and made them line up. A chief of the Revolutionary United Front (Revolutionary United Front) wearing sunglasses supervised all this.
A villager was pulled over and kneeled in front of a tree stump. A guy with a naked upper body and full body, carrying an axe shining with cold light, walked up proudly. His eyes were dull, apparently he had just drunk toddy and smoked marijuana. Another rebel grabbed the villager's hand and placed it on the stump. The man withdrew his hands desperately. Figure wear
Parker shirt guy against his head with AK-47.
The meaning of this action is clear and unmistakable, you can only use your hands to resist your life, there is no other choice.
The villagers struggled to escape. Bang! The bullet penetrated his head. The next person in the line was pulled over and kneeled before the stump.
Guy in Tupac: Keep it longer or shorter?
There was a burst of laughter among the rebel soldiers who had inhaled enough marijuana and were dizzy.
Solomon's close-up: He opened his eyes and watched the torture of the severed hand, and there was a scream of horror around him. An arm that was chopped off was thrown into a pocket.
The next in the queue, a strong young man, was pulled to the stump.
Chief of the Revolutionary Front: Don't cut this one. He can work.
The sturdy young man was caught up to the truck waiting aside. The next one was ~ an old man, trembling and stretching out a thin hand.
Close-up of Solomon. The click of the axe cut into his mind.
The old man who had fainted was pulled up from the ground, and his two forearms became two bloody stumps.
Chief of the Revolutionary Front (continued): You can be a messenger. Spread the word. Didn’t the government say that the future is in your hands? We say that the Revolutionary United Front is the future. The revolution is coming.
Solomon's turn was next. He closed his eyes tightly and let someone put his hand on the stump covered with sticky blood. The officer looked at Solomon for a while and motioned to the executioner to stop.
Chief of the Revolutionary Front: You still need your hands.
Solomon was pushed into the truck.

8. Location Sierra Leone (overlooking from the air)
A seaplane hovering over the jungle. The pilot is Danny Archer. Although this person is only about 30 years old, he has experienced more things than most people have seen in boring TV shows in their entire lives.
He scanned the terrain in front of him, then dived towards the mouth of a wide river, and finally landed on the water and stopped.

9. Not far away,
Commander Rimbaud sits on a canvas folding chair on the sandy shore .
This is a commander of the Revolutionary United Front in his 20s. He wears a goatee, sunglasses and a Bob Marley (Note 2) T-shirt. Behind him stood several bodyguards, armed with automatic guns, and chewing mas chocolate jelly beans in their mouths. A large portable tape recorder is playing Tupac's "If I Die Tonight".

The cabin interior 10.
Fawaz, a lean Lebanese, Archer sitting beside, below watching the flood rebels, mouth toot Nongnong Arabic doing prayer.
Archer: Pray for me, buddy.
Archer closed his eyes and was silent for a while, then checked the pistol's magazine, tucked the pistol on his belt, covered it with the hem of his shirt, and took a deep breath.

11. Location river bank
Archer wade on the shore and walked towards the group. It is conceivable that a group of teenage baby soldiers are holding AK-47s in a corner. Even if they laugh and pass each other a marijuana cigarette, it feels a threat.
Archer: Are you Colonel Ji Luo?
Commander Rimbaud: This is Commander Rimbaud.
Archer: Why isn't Colonel Zillo?
No one answered. Several rebels giggled.
Commander Rimbaud: He is not loyal to the revolution. You are here to help us fight the oppressors.
Archer: I'm here to do business.
The two looked at each other silently.
Archer (before): Have you prepared the goods for me?
Commander Rimbaud: Let us see what you brought first.
Archer: No way. You have to deliver first.
Rimbaud stared at him fiercely. Archer stared at him similarly. There was a disturbing stalemate. Finally, Rimbaud finally took out a dirty little cloth bag and handed it to him. Archer poured out a few rough diamonds from the bag.
Archer (continued, Creole, subtitles): This is not the original order.
Commander Rimbaud (Creole, subtitles): I can also buckle the weapon without giving you anything.
Archer closed his eyes again, then looked back at the seaplane. The cargo door slid open, revealing the muzzle of an M-130 submachine gun. Favasz pulled the bolt. Seeing this, the rebels also pushed their guns on.
Archer (Creole, subtitles): I can also sell weapons to the government. The oppressors will at least pay the bill.
He turned and walked towards the plane.
Commander Rimbaud: Wait a minute... Wait a minute...
Rimbaud smiled, as if what he said just now was just a joke. He took a handful of diamonds from a rusty coffee barrel.
Commander Rimbaud (continued): Is this what you want? Take it...there are so many, I don't know what to do with it.
He motioned Archer to stretch out his hands and pour a handful of diamonds into his hands.
Commander Rimbaud: Will you bring a satellite antenna next time? I really want to watch "New York Crime Squad".

11A. After a while, the
seaplane began to take off, and we saw some rebels carrying boxes of rocket launchers with the words "Made in Ukraine".

12. Interior view
Favaz happily watched his share of rewards on the plane .
Favaz: I want to buy an electronics store, sit all day, drink tea, and watch DVDs. What do you think, Danny?
Archer closed his eyes and was silent for a moment, relieved.

13. Exterior view of a diamond mine in Sierra Leone An
open alluvial pit during the day , next to a river in the jungle. Some grown-up men and under-aged boys were standing in the knee-deep muddy water and working. They dug up the mud with their hands and panned it in a wooden trough. Everyone was under the close surveillance of the armed Revolutionary United Front rebels. The rebels stood on the shore and smoked a thick marijuana cigarette rolled in a newspaper.
At this time, a leader of the rebel army, Captain Boyson, was eloquently preaching revolutionary principles to the miners.
Captain Boyson: The Freetown government and their white masters occupy your land to satisfy their greed! We liberated you! You are no longer slaves, you have become masters here! We are all equal brothers!
Solomon's body was taut from the weight on the round sieve. He straightened up and wiped away the sweat that was about to flow into his eyes. A gun stabbed him, and he raised his head to meet Captain Boyson's ferocious gaze.
Captain Boyson (continued): Get to work! Only labor can be liberated! Come on! Go digging!
Solomon bent down and continued to shake his sieve trough. Another drill worker carefully inspected his wooden trough, picked up something and placed it on his palm.
Driller: Ha!
Everyone stopped. A rebel officer came over. The worker gave him a small milky white crystal. That is a diamond. Without saying a word, the officer wrapped the diamond in a piece of paper.
People continue to work. Solomon saw the captain handing the paper bag to an orderly, and the orderly ran to hand it to the chief who was sitting under a palm leaf umbrella and reading the pornographic pictorial. The officer took the diamond and put it in his shirt pocket without even looking at it.
Not far from Solomon, there was another worker. He looked around, and secretly picked up a diamond from the sieve and put it in his mouth.
His eyes met Solomon. Solomon quickly looked away and continued to work. At this moment he suddenly felt that Captain Boyson was keeping his gaze on him, so he vigorously shook the sieve in his hand, as if trying to shake the Captain's gaze away from him.
Captain Boyson continued to watch Solomon. Then he quietly approached the worker who had put the diamond in his mouth, and suddenly raised his gun and shot the worker directly.
Time froze.
Boyson turned to Solomon.
Captain Boyson: You, search for him.
Solomon put down the sieve in his hand and stared at the corpse floating beside him. The blood gradually dyed the muddy river red...
Solomon (voice-over): Dear Jesse, I can't put the thoughts in my heart in the letter. Write it down well.

14. The location of the Revolutionary United Front. At dusk,
Solomon used an iron jar to eat the porridge he received. Some people lay on the ground sleeping wrapped in dirty and smelly clothes.
Solomon (voice-over): Even if I could write it, the people who looked after us would not allow me to post it.

15. Location Amoy drill camp At night,
Solomon sat there shivering, looking up at the guards standing guard. In the distance, in a tent with lights on, a group of rebels were drinking while watching satellite TV, and howled at the TV from time to time. The TV show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire".
Solomon (voice-over): I don't know where you are now. I don't even know where I am.

16. Location
Jesse took the children to escape with a group of homeless Mende people somewhere in the Bintumani mountain area . Dia hugged her little brother. Suddenly there was the sound of a truck coming, and people hid in the bushes. A group of Revolutionary United Front rebels roared past. After a while, people walked back on the road.
Solomon (voice-over): I only know that my thoughts fly to you over thousands of mountains and rivers.

17. The outdoor grass shop
Solomon lay there at night , his eyes wide open, as if he was falling into a nightmare.
Solomon (voice-over): I must find you, Jesse. Even if it takes my whole life. We must be reunited together.

18.
A high pass in the outdoor mountainous area during the day . The mountains in the distance are surrounded by clouds and mist. A bright red appeared on the screen—it was the hat of a Hausa shepherd. He carried a spear and led a group of goats, and the bell on the goat's neck made a crisp sound.
Behind the palace is Archer, who is looking at his palm GPs. His satellite phone beeps...
Archer: We are not far from the landing point. How is your situation there?

19. Exterior/interior view A twin-engine turboprop was flying in the air at the same time as
Favas, who was flying the plane before . While speaking to the satellite phone, he stared anxiously at the large thick jungle below.
Favas: ...a team of soldiers.

20. The time in the outdoor mountain area was the same as before
, and a group of West African peacekeeping troops (note 3) soldiers came from the mountain side. The captain walked to Archer.
Captain: Credentials.
Archer quickly took out his ID from his pocket and handed it over.
Archer: Elliott Smith is a reporter for National Geographic.
Captain: You are about to enter the border of Liberia.
Archer: I have a letter from the Minister of the Interior and a Liberian visa. (The captain checks the ID) I'm doing a report about the Hausa people, you know, they can cross the border to find the pasture.
In the sky, a small plane buzzed by. The captain looked up, then looked at Archer.
Archer looked fawning, took out an unopened box of cigarettes from his shirt pocket and handed it over.
Archer (continued): Have you read National Geographic magazine?
The captain ignored his words, approached a goat, and fumbled with his hands on the goat's back and under its neck. His hands separated a handful of wool, revealing a surgical suture on the sheepskin.
Archer touched the pistol on his waist and looked at the surrounding patrol team members who were holding guns. They were too crowded.
The captain took out a knife and cut into the stitches. The goat screamed and kicked hard. The captain took out a dozen small rough diamonds from under the goat's skin.
The captain took out a 45 pistol and pointed it at Archer.
Captain: You were arrested for smuggling.
Archer: Listen to me, buddy. I am a good friend of Minister Somora. He won't be happy to let you disrupt his business.
Minister Somora's name obviously has some weight.
Archer (continued): You know who I am, don't you? What am i doing? I don’t think you intend to interfere with me and my friends, do you? (Changes tone) I think I might as well, you take a couple of diamonds and buy some high-end gifts for your wife or lover, huh? (Pointing to the shepherd next to him) Who will report? them?
The shepherd looked at Archer at a loss, then at the soldier next to him.
Captain: No way.
The captain shot suddenly, and a shepherd fell to the ground and died. The other wanted to escape and was immediately knocked down.
The captain turned to Archer angrily, this time Archer's affairs were completely over.
Captain (continued): Let's go back to Freetown now to see how Secretary Somora intends to reward his partner.

21. In a hidden room,
Archer was handcuffed to a chair during the day . A huge fat body entered the room, silhouette against the bright window.
Archer: Mr. Minister, there is obviously a great misunderstanding here...
Somora slapped Archer. Archer shook his head back.
Minister Somora: I always thought we were friends.
Archer: You are right, you are right... I just made my own
claim a little bit, but ... Somora slapped him again.
Minister Somora: Am I not caring enough for you?
Archer (licking his cracked lips): Absolutely in every possible way. I was going to count you. I didn't always...
Minister Somora slapped Archer back on the concrete floor with the chair.
He lay motionless on the ground. Somora's huge body looked down at him from above.
Archer (continued): Look... If you wanted to kill me, you could kill me long ago. What do you want me to do.
Somora smiled. There is a small diamond in one of his teeth.

22. Interior view of the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The
Secretary-General of the United Nations is giving a speech to the United Nations General Assembly during the day .
Secretary-General: So we advocate prohibiting the direct or indirect export of all rough diamonds from conflict areas to the territories of member states.
He looked up at the representative in the front seat. Among them are two people who wear high-end suits on Saver Street (Note 4). One of the gentlemen is about 40 years old, with light brown hair and his name is Simmons; the other man with white hair is his boss, his name is Derwent, and he is about 60 years old.
Secretary-General (continued): As we know, these diamonds are only a small part of the legal diamond production... The legal diamond trade is of vital importance to the economies of some emerging countries. These countries support the above proposition. I said Appreciate.
The noble-dressed representative of the diamond industry responded with a smile.

23. Later, there will be a celebration reception with champagne in the
reception hall. Representatives of the diamond industry and their wives exchanged talks with representatives of UN member states and other prominent figures, and frequently toasted. Walker, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, came to Derwent and reached out to him.
Ambassador Walker: Mr. Derwent... Under Judd Walker...
Derwent: Ambassador, I am honored to see you at last.
Ambassador Walker: You don't often come to the Atlantic Ocean.
Derwent: I am hoping to change this situation. I'm afraid it still depends on your help.
Ambassador Walker: Mr. Derwent, I think I am not very confident in whether the industry is capable of self-monitoring.
Derwent: Please believe, sir, our two wishes are the same. These diamonds from "conflict zones" make the legitimacy of our entire industry a problem.
Derwent's wife, a young blond beauty appeared beside him. It is difficult to determine whether it is the lady herself or the two million dollar diamond necklace she is wearing is more beautiful.
Derwent (continued): My dear, this is Ambassador Walker.
Mrs. Derwent: It is an honor to meet you.
Derwent (stretched an arm around his wife): Ambassador, I deeply believe that diamonds should be associated with love and beauty, not war. Do you agree?
How could the ambassador not be dazzled? The lens switched from those shiny diamonds to:

24. Outside the diamond mining area
Solomon stood working in the muddy mud water during the day . He stared at the flashing waves on the river and the reflections of the trees faintly. They were swaying with the wind, seeming to be completely indifferent to the brutal atrocities that occurred.
Solomon (voice-over): Dear Jesse. How can one stone have more value than another?
Solomon retracted his thoughts and continued his monotonous labor.
Suddenly, a water pump malfunctioned, shooting a powerful stream of water like a fire faucet, knocking Solomon and some other drill workers down. The sieve in Solomon's hand drifted away, and he swam to chase it. When he grabbed the sieve and turned and kicked the water back, he stopped suddenly.
Under the water on the bank of the river, there was something shining brightly in the sun. After the sludge was washed away by the water, the thing remained in the water. It was a diamond shining with a strange pink light.
Solomon blinked. The diamond also gleamed at him.
Solomon (voice-over, continued): How can a thing from the earth be so beautiful that people will be murdered for it?
Solomon looked around. The rebel soldiers repaired the water pump and ordered the workers to continue their work.
Solomon quickly picked the diamond into the sieve and covered it with mud. His heart was pounding, and he walked to the shore.
Rebel soldier: What are you stunned? Go back to work!
Solomon nodded repeatedly, and quickly put his mud-filled sieve into the water.

25.
Solomon turned the sieve underneath the muddy water stream in the outdoor scene , one barefoot and the toe caught the diamond.

26. The location above the water surface, the same time as the former
Solomon raised a hand to report to the guard, while holding his stomach in pain.
Solomon: I want to go to the toilet. (Beggingly) I can't hold it anymore, sir.
The guard waved him to go. Solomon climbed ashore, dragging one foot cautiously. He was about to walk to the edge of the jungle.
Captain Boyson: Stop.
Solomon stopped immediately. Boyson searched Solomon's body carefully. First checked his hair, ears, eyes, and nostrils, then pinched his cheeks and checked his mouth. He searched his trousers again, and finally turned up his trouser legs.
Captain Boyson (continued): Lift your foot.
Solomon lifted his right foot, and Boyson broke off his toes and searched them one by one. Finally recognized.
Captain Boyson (preceded): Go and come back quickly.
Close-up of Solomon's feet: He put his feet down and grabbed his toes firmly into the muddy ground, obviously trying to retrieve something from there.

27. Exterior edge of the jungle after a while
Solomon crouch down behind a tree had fallen across the floor of an eye staring through the broad leaves the guards.
He quickly took a mud-wrapped clod from between his toes, wiped off the mud, and revealed the diamond. That natural beauty is simply incredible.
He looked back and made sure that no one was watching, so he tore a piece of cloth from his trousers.
Suddenly there was a click on the top of his head.
Solomon slowly raised his head...I saw the barrel of a .45 pistol in front of him.
Captain Boyson: Give it to me.
Solomon stared still. What is the difference between giving and not giving? Just as he was waiting for the gun to fire, there was a sudden rumbling of chasing shells outside the jungle.
The explosion knocked Solomon to the ground.
The mortar bombs exploded again and again. A group of West African peacekeepers killed from a distance, and their automatic weapons kept firing. Solomon climbed onto Boyson's bleeding body and removed the machete from his waist.
Braving the shotguns flying across the jungle, Solomon used the machete to dig a hole on the ground frantically, wrap the diamond with a strip of green cloth and put it in the hole, and bury it with soil.
At this time, someone hit him on the head with the butt of a rifle. He fell to the ground. The peacekeepers yelled at him in German. He suddenly realized that he still had a machete in his hand, and quickly threw the machete down.
Solomon: Don't shoot! I am not from the RUF!
He saw the soldiers beside him beating the rebel prisoners with sticks. In the distance, some soldiers killed some prisoners indiscriminately.

28. Location Freetown
A team of military trucks crossed the bustling streets during the day . The women have baskets on their heads, and traditional foot bells rustle on their ankles. In front of a restaurant, there are a few "businessmen in white suits, sipping Coca-Cola with a straw. A helicopter with the United Nations logo hovered overhead.

29. Exterior view of the rear compartment of a military vehicle at the same time as the former
Soro The door was sitting in the car, and the chain tied him to some rebel prisoners. He had never entered the city, had never seen so many people. This surprised him deeply.
He watched some beggars running along the street, Those were war orphans, about the same age as his son. He looked carefully at every face...

30. Interior view of a prison in Freetown (Padenbar Road) During the day
Archer was playing with playing cards boringly . He looked up and saw a group of rebel prisoners passing in front of his dark and damp cell.
Rebel A: The Revolutionary Front is coming! It is necessary to implement chopping hands! Be careful, guys!
Archer turned his attention back to his playing cards. At this moment, the door of the cell next door opened and Solomon was pushed into the cell.
Solomon: I am not from the RUF. My name is Solomon Vandy! I am a farmer!
Archer looked at him attentively. Solomon looked back at him fiercely.
A few more prisoners were brought in, and one of them was carried in on a stretcher. Half of the man's face was covered by a bandage, but when he turned his head, we saw that it was Captain Boyson. Solomon turned to avoid.
Boyson raised his head and looked sideways across the iron fence of the cell.
Captain Boyson: What did you do with it?
Salomon ignored Boyson's yelling.
Captain Boyson (continued): Where can I talk to you! Did you hear that? Where did you hide that diamond?
Archer pricked his ears, but continued to play his cards.
Captain Boyson (continued): A pink diamond, I saw you holding it with my own eyes! !
Archer's hand was about to flip up a card, and then suddenly stopped. He listened carefully, but tried not to show off.
Solomon: You are a lunatic. I don't know you at all.
Captain Boyson: I saw it with my own eyes! !
Boyson reached out from his sweat-stained shirt and took out the ivory amulet hanging around his neck and held it up for everyone to see.
Captain Boyson (continued): It's so big! I have never seen such a big one! !
Solomon shook his head desperately.
Archer's eyes were fixed on the ivory amulet, but he continued to play cards on the surface. Boyson yelled to the captives.
Captain Boyson (continued): Whoever finds out from him, I will give a thousand dollars!
This made Salomon alert. He stood up, pulled off his shirt, pulled down his pants, and took off all his clothes until he faced Captain Boyson across the fence completely naked.
Solomon: Where are diamonds? Do you see any diamonds? You took my family, ruined my home, and took everything from me! Let you see! See what I have left? See what else do I have? If there is a diamond, you will be the first to snatch it away!
Boyson drew his upper body from the stretcher.
Captain Boyson: Lie! He is talking nonsense here!
The guard of the peacekeeping force had already been irritated by the quarrel. The guards took Boyson away, and at the same time gave Solomon a hard look, saying, "You too, be careful!"
Archer put up a handful of cards again. He stared at Solomon for a while, then looked away. All the information he needed came into his ears.
Solomon began to put on his clothes again. There was still anger in his eyes. Across the fence, he glanced at Archer again. Archer avoided his gaze and still played his cards.
After a while, he carefully pulled out a square A and folded it in half. He got up and walked to the door of his cell, and waited until a guard passed by.
Archer: Excuse me, brother. Can you send me a letter to Minister Somora?
The guard saw Archer handing over a box of cigarettes through the fence, and a folded playing card.

31.
Outside the prison gate Archer walked out of the prison the next day and came to the street, his eyes squinted by the sunlight.
Across the street, the same scene seen in the rearview mirror of a car parked on the side of the street. The man in the driver's seat had red hair and short cuts. His name was Just.
Favas came and handed the hat to Archer.
Favas: Why did they release you?
Archer: There is a farmer in it. He may have found a pink diamond.
Favas: So what? You tell Somora that you can get it?
Archer: I have to get in touch with my friends in London.
Favaz: I thought we were doing it for Somora.
Archer: If you can get this pink diamond, who needs him Somora?
Archer felt that Fawaz seemed to be hiding something from him.
Archer (continued): ...how?
Favaz: London doesn't want to be involved with you.
Favaz handed him a newspaper clipping.
Archer (reading out): "The arrest of Daniel Archer, a former mercenary and diamond smuggler who is currently associated with the Derwent Diamond Cartel in Sierra Leone on June 1st, has drawn attention to the issue of diamond smuggling. Note..." (crumbling that clipping into a ball) Note his fucking ass.
He started walking along the street and turned around and said to
Favaz : Archer (continued): His name is Solomon or something... If you have to, mortgage the plane-anyway, try to get him Get it out.

32. Interior view of a simple room in an apartment-style hotel.
His body was still wet after the shower during the day . Archer was struggling to contact someone on the phone.
Archer (to the phone):...Then, can you tell Mr. Derwent that Archer called Deng Keche, A-R
-j ... jumped-after a while-and dialed another call.
Archer is already smoking his tenth cigarette.
Archer (on the phone before answering): When did he say he will be back?
Jumped-after a while-dialed another call.
Archer thumped the wall with his fist.
Archer (continued): Yes, of course he knows what's going on...Yes...Yes...I keep...
He throws the phone to the other side of the room in a desperate manner.

33. On the streets of Freetown,
Archer came out of the ruined hotel during the day . He had changed his outfit. A group of entangled beggars immediately surrounded him, calling his name: "Archer...Archer..."
Archer: Go away, go away.
He unceremoniously got rid of their entanglement, without the slightest pity.

34. At the same time, the door of Archer’s hotel room was kicked open. The Gust
who followed Archer we had seen before broke into Archer’s room and started searching. He did it very well, and he didn't feel any softness-tearing open the bedding, smashing the phone, and even cutting the carpet into strips with a razor blade.
Obviously he was looking for something very small.

35. Outdoor beach bar During the day
, there will be such a bar in every place of war. Soldiers, smugglers, and speculators of all kinds, all leaned side by side in front of the bamboo bar. Bad guys and good guys, the United Nations and environmentalists backpackers, where drinking ridiculously expensive, watered wine, spread gossip, the desperate search for different
countries Aventure. "African Sierra" music blends indigenous drums and electro-acoustic bass.
From time to time, a low explosion sounded from the distant mountainous area, and huge plumes of smoke rose up. No one pays attention to those.
The thing to do here is just to get drunk.
Archer squeezed into the crowd, and we heard only a few words from the people around us. A Nigerian peacekeeper spotted a female Red Cross staff member.
Peacekeeper: There is nothing here except prostitutes and drug addicts. I can take you back to Nigeria. Let you see the real Africa.
Female Red Cross Staff: Really?
He said something in her ear and she giggled. Next to them are two neatly dressed American Chemical Bank (Note 5) employees.
Staff A: ...50 million in cash. Then I can only see him once.
Staff B: The only difference between these guys in power and the RUF is that... the
African bartender pours the two of them.
African Bartender: ...50 miles, people say they occupied Malampa yesterday.
He pointed his finger at the distant mountain, when there was another explosion.
African bartender (before taking): Maybe I have to confirm my departure ticket soon.
Archer approached the bar. His arrival caused a quiet discussion among the insiders.
African bartender (continued): How are you, Mr. Archer?
Archer: Where are you still alive, Mediterranean... (Looking towards the distant mountain) Your rebel friends are probably coming to visit us in the past few days, right?
African bartender: Ah, I guess they will come here to buy things soon.
He chuckled. Archer raised his glass to salute him. Beside, there was a pretty woman tapping on the bar with a stirrer. At this time, the song "Evening Party 99" by the "Oasis" band (Note 6) was drawing to a close.
Radio Announcer (Voiceover): This is the Voice of America. Wall Street is good again today. The Dow Jones Index rose by 25 points and the Nasdaq rose by 40 points... In the White House, President Clinton once again defended his relationship with Monica Levinsky...
Archer The woman next to him started to talk:
Woman: Did you hear that? The whole world is messed up, but what we hear is the scandal of oral sex...
Archer turned to face Maddie Bowen. McGrady is one of the few women who hides a keen wisdom under her beautiful appearance, enough to make most men retreat. Archer likes such people.
Archer: But when is this world not in a mess?
McGrady: Oh, realistic life. The place to go is gone, the things to be done are done, and the little days are over. Is that the case?
Archer: My name is Danny Archer.
Maddie: My name is Maddie Bowen.
Archer (looking at her): American.
McGrady: Plead guilty.
Archer: Americans are mostly guilty.
Maddie raised his eyebrows. He doesn't come with sweet talk. This is to her appetite.
McGrady: Yo.
Archer: Don't tell me that you are here to change the world.
McGrady: Then you come here to make a lot of money.
Archer smiled slightly. That's what he has been concerned about a long time ago.
Archer: See that guy? Government minister, accused of embezzling disaster relief funds. Bad luck, do you know why? Not enough tribute to his boss... (pointing to the one next to him) See that person? Sell the AK-47s to the rebels, and when they encounter a ceasefire, they will be recovered at a low price. When the war starts again, they will be able to sell them for a big price.
McGrady: What is your opinion?
Archer: My view is that this is Africa. No point of view is useful. Continued Cup?
McGrady: Vodka and ice cubes.
Archer motioned to the waiter, and the waiter nodded at McGrady with an expression of approval.
Archer: Dude, still have another one.
McGrady: Were you born here?
Archer: In Rhodesia.
McGrady: You caught up with the war there. Must have suffered a lot of sins.
Archer (indispensable): I like that.
McGrady: So you are now smuggling.
Archer: Am I like it?
McGrady: I don't think you are like UNICEF anyway.
Archer just smiled.
McGrady (continued): I think you are more like a claw "adventurer", but this sounds a bit old-fashioned.
Archer: How about mercenaries? People seem to prefer this name.
McGrady: Smuggling diamonds?
Archer: I also said that I was a missionary.
McGrady (laughs): Do it for Derwent?
Archer: It is not only an offense to ask such a question, Ms. Bowen, but also very dangerous.
McGrady: I really want to take a risk. (Bring your head closer) Please... tell me the inside story of "Blood Diamond".
Archer suddenly understood what the other party was coming from, and his face became serious.
Archer: ...you are a reporter.
McGrady: Not bad.
Archer got up from his chair.
Archer: Go for yours.
He tossed a few banknotes on the bar. McGrady followed him out.

36. The location beach bar takes over
McGrady: Derwent Diamonds has closed all acquisition sites here in order to evade the United Nations ban. But they still buy diamonds at low prices from the rebels through secret contacts. In this way, no one can condemn them for making war fortune, but in fact they are making war fortune.
Archer: I was shocked.
McGrady: If you want to act alone, they will arrest you and drain you in prison. (Grab him with your hand) Don't you want to find a chance to change the situation?
He continued to walk in strides.
McGrady (before): Hi, wait a moment.
She grabbed his arm and moved closer to him.
McGrady (before, with a slight sexual suggestion): Help me...
He couldn't help but smile.
Archer: McGrady, is it called McGrady? (She nods slightly)...I'm used to having foreplay first and then real.
He walked away and threw her to a group of entangled beggars.

Archer: How is Alice?
Just: Very good, thank you.
Archer: Tim should go to college now.
Just: The child is older and in big trouble...you know.
Archer: How about the people in the company?
Just: There is nothing to complain about. There is one war after another, and business is very hot. (Looking up at him) I heard that you are having some trouble in the country.
Archer: Somora told you.
Just: Minister Somora and the colonel are old friends.
Just smiled. Archer took out a box of cigarettes and gave him one. Just hesitated. Archer patted his pocket in search of matches.
Archer: Is there a fire?
Just touched his pocket and pulled out a lighter.
When he bowed his head to light a cigarette for Archer...
Archer hugged his head and covered his face with one knee, another low-hand punch on his lower abdomen, then rolled him over with a kick, and kicked him viciously on his waist. For a moment.
Archer (continued): Next time the colonel has any questions, let him ask me directly.

49. Interior view of the diamond trading company manager's office
Roland Simmons's office is elegantly laid out during the day , and he himself also appears to be tasteful and unassuming. We saw him earlier at the United Nations conference.
Simmons: Please come in, please come in. Do you use tea?
Archer: No, thank you.
Simmons: That's good. What brought you to London?
Archer: Reggie... I have to disturb you.
Simmons straightened the trousers of his high-end suit. He would rather chat for a while than talk about business matters, but Archer is here to talk about business.
Simmons: A month ago, the executives of our company promised to the United Nations to comply with the ban on diamonds in "conflict areas". (Looking out the window) We can no longer accept the diamonds you provide. You came all the way. , I’m really very sorry, but our relationship has officially terminated.
Archer looked around for a while and found out the situation.
Archer: You’re recording.
Simmons smiled slightly. Archer didn’t care. Let him record these words.
Archer (continued): You are losing control of the world market. There are big mines in Russia and Canada. You need me more than ever.
Simmons look at his watch.
Simmons : You are not going to give me a diamond trading class, are you?
Archer: Trade? Oh, this has a better halo than "cartel". "Cartel" is only suitable for Colombian drug cartels and those who make money from oil. Chiefs...that's too...rejection.
Archer stood up and walked to the big picture of an extraordinary old man hanging on the wall, the old man we saw at the scene of the United Nations conference.
Archer ( (Next): Since there are only you and me, Reggie, we don’t have to go around in circles. You bought 8 billion dollars worth of diamonds and put them in the warehouse below to catch the dust. (Lean forward) If it weren’t for you to cover it. Let it go on the market, and the diamond ring on your hand will be cheaper than your pair of leather shoes.
Simmons: Very good. You can write a book. You can tell the BBC.
Archer (more pressingly): So let's say , It’s shameful enough to let another company steal the limelight, not to mention the huge profits brought by the huge pink diamond that you have never seen before entering the market...
The words made Simmons suddenly startled.
Simmons: You are bluffing.
Archer: Maybe it is. But in case I am not bluffing, it is up to you to explain to Mr. Derwent how things came up like this.
He stood up, ready to go out.
Archer (continued): It was a pleasure to talk to you. Reggie, the new hairstyle is very cute.
Simmons raised a hand as if to say "wait a minute." He turned a switch, and the sound of music suddenly filled the room.
Simmons: Your conditions?
Archer: Ten percent of the market price is the reward for the discoverer.
Simmons: Five percent.
Archer: Seven percent.
Simmons: Deal.
Archer: Happy transaction.
He turned and walked out. Simmons picked up the phone.
Simmons: Pick me up with Derwent.

Solomon: Hello, buddy. How is your body?
Refugee A: Do I know you?
Solomon jumped into the team before he knew it.
Solomon: Of course. We met at your cousin's wedding. Don't you remember?
A refugee far behind yelled angrily.
Refugee B: Don't Gaseer!
Some other refugees also shouted "Go to the end of the line" and so on. Solomon ignored him, only staring at the man next to him.
Solomon: ... how are they getting married?
The angry refugee walked over and took Solomon's arm.
Refugee B: Hi, you fellow, who do you think you are?
Solomon faced the man calmly, his face full of threats.

He wanted to ask someone from the officials in charge.
He heard an African who was a soldier speak German.
Solomon (German, subtitles): Excuse me, I need to find someone to talk about my situation. My family’s name is not on these lists.
While serving as a soldier, he was surrounded by five or six people asking questions. He was very impatient and answered in German. The subtitles showed:
Mende Soldier: Go to Cambe, there is a list.
Solomon: I've been to Campbell, and I've also been to Monpolo, Tbilisi, all...
Mende soldiers: Go find the white man over there.
He pointed to a Red Cross official who was scorched with a lot of refugees who asked him questions. Solomon squeezed into the crowd and approached the man.
Solomon: Excuse me, sir, my name is...
Red Cross Official: Go check the list.
Solomon: I checked all the lists.
The Englishman had to raise his voice and suppress the voices around him.

Under the able-bodied two mercenaries out of the car
, the waist is obviously not a pistol.
Archer (continued): I guess, I'm sorry, I'm afraid I can't pass your level, right?
Just smiled falsely. Two mercenaries have quietly sandwiched Archer. He had a hunch that he was going to be beaten up by these two guys. But they opened the door politely.
Just: First please.

Next to an old Victorian farmhouse, Mercedes slowly stopped under a tall locust tree.
Colonel Theo Coezi, in his 60s, seems to be able to lead his team to a 50-mile rush under dangerous conditions. In fact, this is also common to him.
Colonel: Hello, Danny.
Archer: Sir.
Colonel: You look much better than Just.
Archer: Well, a little misunderstanding among friends.
The colonel chuckled and poured him a martini.
Colonel (raising the glass): For us and those who are like us-
Archer (following):-Damn few.
The two were drinking.
Colonel: I hope you come back to me.
Archer: Thank you, but I think it's better not to come back.
Colonel: We will go to Sierra Leone soon. Our lawyer is negotiating with the current government there.
Archer smiled ambiguously.
Colonel (continued): They are counting on us to help them
regain the diamond mine. I need someone who is familiar with the local situation.
Archer took another sip of wine.
The colonel looked at him.
Colonel (continued): According to Minister Somora, you found a little clue in the mining area. There is a...pink diamond.
Archer (with a disdainful tone): It's just a Mende farmer dreaming.
Colonel: There is a slight problem with the payment for that batch of bazookas. Have you forgotten who arranged the shipment from our Ukrainian friends?
Archer: But I want to ask, who leaked the method of using goats to transport goods to the West African peacekeeping forces?
The colonel's tone became tough.
Colonel: Either repay the loan or come back. You can handle it.
Archer: If I have 100,000 pounds, do you think I will stay in Africa?
Colonel (laughing): Ha, Danny...you can't go. You are an African through and through. (Waves to him) Just will send you back to Cape Town.
Archer: That's good. I am very grateful.
Colonel: Will we meet again soon?
Archer: Forgive me for being impolite, sir, I hope not to see you.
Colonel: You think it's better to sell weapons than to use weapons, don't you? But at least when you pull the trigger, you know that the target is not yourself.
The colonel chuckled, and cast a wink at Gust.

got out of the taxi with his bag. His face is swollen, one eye is blue, and he is covered by sunglasses.
A military jeep parked in front of the hotel. Several West African peacekeepers were pacing there, maybe waiting for an opportunity to arrest him, maybe not.
Archer wasn't ready to take a risk, so he immediately turned and walked away.
He had just walked away, and a string of explosions resounded like distant thunder in the suffocating night sky. A car caught fire. It makes people feel that the situation is out of control.
An African girl in a miniskirt and huge earrings greeted Archer.
Prostitute: Is there no one to accompany you tonight, Archer? (Takes off her coat) I am very clean and free of AIDS. You can wear a sleeve.

71. Outdoor beach bar
Half of the night bar has been destroyed by fire, and people crowded in the remaining half, still drinking and drinking, and the African-style electronic music was deafening.
Archer greeted the bartender and put down his bag.
Archer: Could you please take care of this thing for me? (The waiter nods)...as usual.
Bartender: The damn RUF wants to take down the government building across the street. Damn, you see, most of the people here are from the RUF. (Hands him a glass of wine)
But business is better. Everyone drank desperately, so as not to wait until the rebels arrived.
Archer: Maybe you should try to get the family away, buddy.
The professional smile on the waiter's face immediately disappeared.
Bartender: Where to go? Can you fly on a helicopter like you did? No, sir, this is our country. Before you come and after you leave, we all have to live here.
He looked at Archer, his eyes full of pain and resentment and despair. He turned and walked away.
Favas came up with a look of panic.
Favaz: Ah, my god, are you okay?
Archer: Where is the farmer?
Favaz: He got a job in a restaurant. Run to the refugee office all day long. It's totally unlike the behavior of a person carrying expensive diamonds.
There was another explosion in the mountains in the distance. Favaz shrank his head.
Favaz (continued): The road to Mashaca was cut off in three places. The government may fall at any time, but you let me follow a farmer who talks about it.
Archer saw McGrady across the crowd. She stood alone, swaying her body slowly with the sound of the music in confusion.
Favaz (continued): This person has worked as a drill worker. It is absolutely impossible for him to hide even a tiny diamond and leave there. Even showing a flustered look will open you up.
Archer: I think Somora is probably looking for me.
Favaz (very anxiously): I hope Allah bless...
Archer (go away): Anyway, you stare at the farmer for me.
Favas: But...
Archer had already walked to McGrady at this time. She saw him coming, so she waited for him to come closer. The two met in the middle of the crowded dance floor. Around them are many sweaty human bodies swaying to the beat of African music.
McGrady: Are you going to be real or foreplay or something? I can't remember.
Archer: How about dancing with me?
McGrady: May I ask what's wrong with your face?
He took her hand and led her into the surging crowd.
McGrady (continued): Maybe it's better not to ask.
They squeezed in the crowd and jumped as decently as possible.
McGrady (continued): This is crazy. I drank in an African bar and danced with a mercenary.
Archer: What should people from Ohio say?
McGrady: It's Chicago.
Archer: ...You can see many characteristics of a person based on people's dancing posture.
McGrady: Then you can probably say that I can't dance at all.
They stare at each other.
McGrady (continued): In Mozambique, you participated in the hunt for the leaders of the ANC. Then in Angola, you hooked up with Derwent and started trading weapons for diamonds.
Archer: Is it all on the record?
McGrady: But you think those people are too greedy, you have to get rid of them and do it yourself. right?
He did not answer, and the two looked at each other. The music roared. Both of them were sweating profusely, but they didn't care about wiping them.
McGrady (continued): So, you are a nihilist? Are you a speculator? Is it a despicable villain?
