The first thing to note is that this is not a historical drama, but an aerial drama with many legends and historical elements. Comparing with historical facts everywhere when watching a drama will only make you feel uncomfortable.
Ronald Rodbroke was a great Viking leader, whose rule may include today's Denmark and southern Sweden. He looted Paris in 845 and received a large ransom from the Bald King Charles of West Franconia. According to legend, he finally drifted to the territory of King Ella of Northumbria in England in 865 due to a shipwreck, where he was captured and executed. "Legend of the Vikings" is the first scripted episode in History Channel history, featuring Gabriel Byrne, Travis Fimmel, Jessalyn Gilsig, Katheryn Winnick, Gustaf Skarsgard and Clive Standen. This 9-episode historical drama was broadcast in 2013. Wang Wensheng righteous, the play depicts the story of the heyday of the Vikings, who initially ruled the Nordic region, and because of their love of maritime looting and expanding abroad, they were dubbed the nickname "Viking". The play will focus on describing the life, trade, exploration and foreign invasion of the Vikings. From the 9th century to the 11th century AD, a large number of Scandinavians (referring to today's Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, etc.) left their hometowns to find wealth in places they had never been before. These were good at sailing. Warriors are called Vikings or Noths in history books. Some of these Vikings travelled across the Atlantic Ocean to the British Isles on a new type of "dreadnought", which was extremely advanced at the time, and looted coastal areas—especially monasteries that had no force to fight back. Some Vikings extended their tentacles to the hinterland of the European continent, even some places in Russia today, Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland. In the next three centuries, they were labeled with various titles due to their own behavior: pirates, captives, merchants, and immigrants. The protagonist of the story of this play is named Ronald Rodbroke (played by Travis Fimmel), who is the reappearance of the heroic image of the "half-man, half-god" in Norwegian legend. The story begins in the era when the Vikings emerged-at the end of the 8th century AD-before Langnar Rodbrock was just an ordinary farmer and warrior. Like everyone else, he dreams of obtaining wealth through captivity, but he does not want to go to the East, but plans to go to the West that future generations have never been to-across the land, to the unknown and mysterious fertile land. Ronald and his shipbuilder friend Frocky (Gustaf Skarsgard) is secretly discussing a new type of "dreadnought" that can conquer the North Atlantic. If he can succeed, the Vikings will be an era ahead of other Europeans. Ronnel first had to win the support of Lord Haraldson (played by Gabriel Byrne), the leader of the tribe, but it was not easy. The soldiers were sent to the West to carry out captivity in the Baltic countries and Russia. But those Orientals are as poor as the Vikings. The Earl's lack of enterprising conservative approach made Ronnel increasingly dissatisfied, and a dispute was on the verge of breaking out. According to the official materials of the History Channel, Ronald Rodbroke does have a person in history. The tribe where Langnar and his father belonged was not the strongest Viking tribe at the time, but Langnar rose gradually and eventually became the king of the Vikings, with power throughout Scandinavia. He claimed to be a direct heir of the god Odin in Norse mythology, and thus lost the support and respect of many people. In addition to peace and bloody conflict, family stories and brotherhood are also the focus of the play—especially the relationship between Ronald and his wife and brothers. Katheryn Winnick plays Ronaldo’s first wife, Lagosa, who often fights alongside her husband. They are united by love. When Langnar met Lagosa for the first time, she was assisting a Norwegian lord who fought bravely against the invasion of the Swedes. Gustaf Skarsgard plays Langnar’s friend Frocky, who lives by shipbuilding, has a weird temperament, and loves to joke (this character is based on the Norwegian myth of Rocky). He will use his talent and craftsmanship to create a prototype of a new generation of Viking warships, which are strong and bulky ships that can cross the oceans and fight in shallow rivers. He will assist Ronnal in fulfilling his dream of searching for a new land and a new civilization across the ocean. Clive Standen played Ronaldo's brother Rollo. He was so happy and cruel. He later followed Ronnel to expand his power, but he became jealous when he saw Ronnel's great wealth, power, and fame. Gabriel Byrne plays Haraldson, a nobleman who used to be a warrior. He is the largest lord in the area where Langnar is located, and he has repeatedly clashed with the Viking King at the time. Jessalyn Gilsig plays the Earl’s charming wife Sigi. George Blagden plays the Anglo-Saxon monk Ethelstein, who became Ronnel’s slave and guest when Ronnel first invaded Britain. Ethelstein hated the Viking's "pagan" values.
