What impress me most of Godfather

At the wedding, I remembered, after telling the story of his family, Michael said to his girlfriend: “that's my family, Kay. It's not me.” However, at the end of movie, he closed the door to let Kay outside. At that moment, he is “his family.”?

Michael was retried from the War. He was a war hero. He had a beautiful girlfriend. He was not interested in family's “business” and didn't want to involve into it. His father, Don Vito Corleone, took the charge of the whole family which could be the most powerful New York-area mafia family. For the godfather, Michael was his smallest son as well as the favorite one. Michael was supposed to have a peaceful life, lovely children, which come to see their grandpa on holidays.

However, everything had changed when the godfather was shot.

When Don Vito Corleone refused the drug dealer, he had already been opposed against the other mafia families in New York. They sent people to kill him. As soon as hearing godfather was still alive, they colluded with the police and wanted to send him to die in hospital. Michael had seen through this plot and protected his dearest father. When he sat on the sofa, spoke out the whole plan calmly, he knew that he had no escape from his family. He killed Sollozzo and McCluskey and ran away. For his father's safety, he dropped off his peaceful future. Just as he said: it is not personal, it is strict business.

It seemed Michael had a happiness and peaceful life in Sicilian. This short quiet life had been broke by the death of his brother Sonny and his wife. He returned to New York. He had to take charge of the whole family and he knew his responsibility to the whole family. The old godfather was died, and the new godfather was appeared. He took the revenge. Everyone who had opposed and betrayed the family had got their ends.

Michael had become the new “godfather”.

Life is not so easy and simple as we imaged. It is not the food, if we don't like it, we can spit it out of our mouth. Everything is not depended on our willing. Sometimes, we have to make sacrifices to our families, to our friend, to the society, and to ourselves. Michael did not want to involve into his family “business”. But when the crisis came, he stood out. Because he knew that where his responsibility lies. As a human being, we are not isolated. We are in the different groups. Friends groups, family groups, work groups. So that, all of us have the responsibilities. A position where we are, a responsibility where we should take.

The Godfather quotes

  • Capt. McCluskey: I thought I got all you Guinea hoods locked up! What the hell are you doing here?

Michael: What happened to the men who were guarding my father, Captain?

Capt. McCluskey: I pulled them guys off of here, eh, now get away from this hospital!

Michael: I'm not leaving until you put some guards around my father's room.

Capt. McCluskey: Phil, take him in!

Cop with Capt. McCluskey outside hospital: The kid's clean Captain, he's a war hero! He's never been mixed up with the rackets...

Capt. McCluskey: Goddamn it Phil, I said take him in!

Michael: What's the Turk paying you to set up my father, Captain?

Capt. McCluskey: [to Patrolmen] Take a hold of him. Stand him up. Stand him up straight.

[punches Michael and breaks his jaw]

  • Sollozzo: [to Michael, in Sicilian] I am sorry. What happened to your father was business. I have much respect for your father. But your father, his thinking is old-fashioned. You must understand why I had to do that. Now let's work through where we go from here.

[Michael tries speaking in Sicilian, but can't express himself properly, so with a quick look at McCluskey they both switch to English]

Michael: What I want... what's most important to me is that I have a guarantee: no more attempts on my father's life.

Sollozzo: What guarantees could I give you, Mike? I'm the hunted one. I've missed my chance. You think too much of me, kid. I am not that clever. All I want is a truce.

Michael: I have to go to the bathroom. Is that all right?

Capt. McCluskey: You gotta go, you gotta go.

[Michael gets up, but a suspicious Sollozzo probes Michael's crotch, to Michael's offense]

Capt. McCluskey: I frisked him. He's clean.

    Sollozzo: Don't take too long...

    [Michael heads to the bathroom]

Capt. McCluskey: [to Sollozzo] I frisked a thousand young punks.
