"Infernal Affairs" + "The True Colors of a Hero", but better

I like the first half of this movie the most. The dialogue is so well written, with every word, fighting spirit and courage plus humor. The personality of each character is very distinct, especially the three protagonists, the police, the level of personality is expanded little by little, but the extra level is not strong enough to overwhelm the main tone set before, although the level is clear, the characteristics are still outstanding.

The rhythm of the film is also very good. At first, all the puzzles are unbuckled as the plot develops, but it is slow and orderly and never impatient.

The scene where Kim Basinger's character Lynn encounters Ed is so wonderful that it can't be more exciting, full of exaggeration and passion on the stage of the drama, including the eyes, tone and body language. It is really a very emotional scene.

The whole storyline feels like a combination of "Infernal Affairs" and "The True Colors of Heroes", the fascination is set, layer by layer is solved, and the final action scene is finished. This is really one of the most minded entertainment films, no wonder it is a classic Hollywood masterpiece over the years.

L.A. Confidential quotes

  • Ray Pinker: Stomach of the week. Unemployed actor had frankfurter, french fries, alcohol, and sperm. Hell of a last supper, don't you think?

  • Bud White: Bullshit. How would a two-bit hick like Meeks get his hands on a large supply of heroin?

Johnny Stompanato: You're right, it's probably bullshit. Even if he did, he could never unload it. Not without drawing all kinds of attention.

Bud White: Maybe that's why he's under a house in Elysian Park and he don't smell too good, paisano.
