"Joker" spoiler interpretation, which are real and which are false

I thought about whether to do a spoiler interpretation now, but because China currently has no plans to release the film (I guess it won't be), I don't wait any longer. Only a spoiler warning . Please read this article after watching the movie. Hope everyone will see it soon!

Text: No kidding blue cat

The reason why I decided to write this interpretation is mainly because I found more details after watching this film for the second time. And I found some feedback from the audience, saying that the plot of the film was simple and clichéd, and I knew that they also thought things too simple just like when I first watched it. In other words, I didn't understand the mind of the choreographer.

Watching it again, I found that this movie is actually very playful. It deliberately set many traps so that you can't tell which ones are real and which ones are fake. When many people complained that the last scene where people crowded around the clown was provocative, are you really sure that the scene really happened?

In fact, when interviewing the director, he joked and said: "I have heard many different interpretations of this film. Some people say that the whole is a fantasy in the clown's mind, and it is not a real thing. I hope everyone I can have my own thoughts and interpretations." The director may not really have a conclusive content when he is shooting, to determine which is real and which is imaginary. Maybe his purpose is for everyone to discuss.

However, it must be affirmed that this movie is not as simple as it seems, and it is worthy of further discussion . Some content is clearly stated in the film to be false. There are also some content that seems to be false in the film, but other hints are made, and it seems that there is a turning point in addition to the turning point.

The following is really spoiler, please read it carefully.

Question 1) Are Thomas Wayne and the former maid Penny the biological parents of Arthur?

It is mentioned in the film that his mother insisted that it was, and also said that he was forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement by Thomas Wien, Wien never admitted, and lied that she was sick and adopted Arthur. Although Arthur did go to the psychiatric center to get his mother's report, it also stated that he was adopted by his mother. But is it true? Everything looked more like a report arranged by Thomas Wayne and told Arthur to go to the hospital to check it.

An important detail in the film is that after he killed his mother, he found a photo of his mother when he was young, with the words "Your smile is beautiful, TW" on the back. That is the ambiguous words written by Thomas Wayne to his mother. If the report of the mental hospital is true, this detail is arranged here, and it becomes redundant and unnecessary. So I think that since we want to put in this detail, it means that maybe what his mother said is the truth.

We must not forget that Thomas Wayne is a powerful man. He can forge the doctor's certificate and the certificate that Arthur was adopted. He emphasized that Penny has a mental illness. Who would you believe? Obviously believe in this rich and powerful person. Who cares about the life and death of a servant like Penny?

This is like those cases of sexual assault. The woman said she was sexually assaulted, and the man said: "It's all her imagination." There is no way to prove it. Unless check DNA. With Thomas Wayne's position, he would not admit that he has an illegitimate child, especially since he is running for mayor.

When Schwarzenegger had an illegitimate child, he only admitted after he retired from the governor. Can you imagine that if he had an illegitimate child in his early years, he could still run for governor? ?

And a woman may not remember who she slept with, but she must know who her child belongs to, because she has to go through ten months of pregnancy and years of parenting. How can she not know who he is when she faces this child every day? ? If you don't believe me, ask your mother. This is something a woman can never get wrong. Her mother is not so sick yet. In addition, this plot is just to show the cruelty and indifference of the rich class. There are too many real examples of politicians who refuse to admit illegitimate children for the election.

What's more, although his mother has a mental problem, she has always emphasized that Thomas Wayne did not admit it twice, falsely claiming to be an adoption, and also mentioned a confidentiality agreement. If she is just delusional, it should not always be emphasized in the film. How could a neurotic think of such details as a non-disclosure agreement? In addition, the subsequent photos seem to imply that she did not lie, but Wien tried to cover up the facts. The choreographer doesn’t need to shake you up with such a big burden, and then tell you: "I’m teasing you."

I think that the purpose of editing and arranging these series of forged hospital records may be to show the hypocrisy of the rich. A powerless person has no status and no ability to argue for himself in front of a powerful person. The truth is only the truth among the rich. In order to cover up his past, a rich kid can do so coldly.

In addition, can a poor person like her mother really afford to adopt a child? Generally, those who adopt children are rich people, since there are documents stating that it is a formal adoption. Do you know that adoption requires investigation of the background and situation of the adoptive parents and follow-up? They will not be allowed to adopt a child in such a living situation.

Update: New evidence found! In the film, the mother’s medical record and the mother’s adoption certificate in the mental hospital were signed by a person named Dr. Benjamin Stoner, and this person is real in the DC comics! And is a villain! The director will also use this character to show that the doctor is not a good person. It is likely that he has colluded with Thomas Wayne, forged medical records and adoption certificates, forced Arthur's mother to sign a non-disclosure agreement, and severed the relationship with her.

So why did the clown kill his mother? Not because he felt that his mother was lying, but because he saw the medical record saying that he was abused by his stepfather when he was a child and his mother stood by. That is, he blamed his illness on his mother for not treating him well.

Question 2: Which ones are real and which ones are conjectures in the clown's mind?

Two fragments that are definitely fantasy include:

1) Girlfriend. This video clearly shows the fantasy of a clown. He just saw the female neighbor in the elevator. Afterwards, dating, kissing, going to see him perform, and even going to the hospital with him were all his fantasies. When the film reviewed all this again, we saw that the female neighbor was not present. When he broke into the female neighbor's house, the female neighbor's reaction also clearly showed that she was actually not familiar with him and was surprised why he broke in.

2) Another fantasy part happened shortly after the beginning of the film. When he watched the reality show with his mother, he began to imagine himself appearing on the scene of the reality show and was called on the stage by the host. This paragraph shows that he has always wanted to be the target of everyone's attention and hopes to be on this show. And it seems that Arthur, who is relatively young, seems to be saying that he had such a fantasy a long time ago. This paragraph can be seen as a good wish in his heart. Later, when he actually met the host, he admitted that everything was as he imagined.

But later, after he stopped the medicine, did the series of things that happened in the last 15-20 minutes of the film really happened?

Some people think that since he got into the refrigerator, he has been conjectured. . .

Some people think that everything is actually a story told by his conversation with a psychotherapist. . . In fact, he has been kept in a mental hospital and never came out. But I think the psychologist who appeared at the end of the film and the community psychologist in front are not alone, and it is not obvious that he has been in the hospital all the time. Still feel that he was imprisoned back at the end of the film because of the murder.

I personally feel that killing mothers, going on talk shows and killing hosts, and killing colleagues are all real. Because all this was caused by the killings caused by self-defense in the subway, it was an important change for him. The section of the subway is absolutely true, because the director himself interpreted that it was a legitimate defense at the beginning, until Arthur chased the last person and shot from behind, at that moment he lost his mind. Later, he gradually turned into a murderer due to drug withdrawal and a series of stimulation.

But all the content that he felt he was infinitely admired, sought after, and admired was fake, just a fantasy in his mind . This includes that he was finally dragged out of the police car and was worshipped by everyone. I think this paragraph may also be his obscenity. He was probably taken directly to a mental hospital by the police.

Just like fantasizing his girlfriend and having been on a talk show, in those two clips, others are paying attention to him, which is exactly what he wants. However, the reality is not so. It's a bit cruel to say that, but every moment in the film he thinks he is a hero can be his imagination. But he suffered bullying, was abandoned by his father, was abused by his stepfather when he was a child, his medical insurance was taken away from the medicine, and later he killed people. These cold contents are all true.

At the end, he was in a mental hospital. He had bloody footprints when he came out, but I personally think that he can't kill in the mental hospital. There should be security guards, and there is no murder weapon. It may be his obscenity, and he feels that he can do whatever he wants.

However, the hardest thing to say is whether the scenes of the Wien couple being killed are real or not . I thought it was true at first, because the Joker is unlikely to imagine such an ending. If it were his own fantasy, it is estimated that he would kill Thomas Wayne himself. The reason why the director filmed according to the way we know how to die is also to echo the original comics and restore this tragedy. It is indeed possible that the shooting was caused by various riots.

It's just that it's a bit incomprehensible to think about the fact that this family went to the theater in such a chaotic night. Generally, if there is a riot, such an important person should stay at home, not to mention that it is strange that there are no bodyguards. From this point of view, it feels like a fantasy. . .

what do y'all think? Welcome students who have seen it to share your views. Again, I don't think there is a clear answer, but the director wants to show that the mentally ill may have imagined it, making it difficult to distinguish between reality and illusion. This is why I remind everyone not to forget the fact that Arthur is a mental patient. This is very important, instead of blindly thinking that he was just driven to a dead end. We all know that many horror films and suspense films are illusory images produced because of the mental problems of the protagonist, which is caused by the indistinguishability of reality and fantasy. This film also takes this route, not the route some people think of "seeing how a poor low-level figure retaliates against society".

Arthur Fleck: It's a prop. It's part of my act. I'm a party clown.

Detective Burke: All right, so why were you fired?

Arthur Fleck: They said I wasn't funny enough. Can you imagine that? Now if you don't mind, I have to go take care of my mother.

Detective Burke: Your boss also gave us one of your cards. This condition of yours, The laughing, is it real, or some sort of clown thing?

    Arthur Fleck: A clown thing?

Detective Garrity: Yeah. I mean, part of your act?

Arthur Fleck: What do you think?

[Arthur turns and starts walking towards the hospital doors, but walks into the glass door]

    Detective Garrity: It's exit only.
