Watching "My Neighbor Totoro" is at least a memory of more than ten years ago.

The most impressive memory of watching Ghibli's works is that soon after the college entrance examination was over, I went to the mountains to find friends.

There was no entertainment at the time, and there might not even be a stand-alone version of StarCraft. I looked at the few film and television resources on the computer's hard drive, one by one.

Don't worry, there are no love action movies. There is a folder in it, which is a cartoon, suitable for all ages.

At that time, I watched several films such as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Laputa in the Sky. They are all classics, so there is no need to emphasize them. Friends and parents live in the school's staff dormitory. It was summer vacation, surrounded by mountains, but there was no one. The short-lived barrier with the world around me and the past life made me fully enjoy Hayao Miyazaki's whimsical world. I didn't know what I was saying goodbye, but I planted the seeds of optimism and hope.

Sorry, the memory of the interruption is a bit fragmented.

Of course I have watched "My Neighbor Totoro". Because of the lack of rewatching experience, he was affected by the scary urban legends on the Internet (the studio dispelled the rumors in 2007). I have been wondering if I really missed the key information of the movie when I was young.

Thanks to the restoration and re-screening in China 20 years later, that is today, relived on the big screen of the cinema, still feels like a simple and incomparable growth story filled and poured by children's imagination.

"My Neighbor Totoro" was filmed in 1988, also the last year of the Showa era. It is worth mentioning that 2018 is the last year of Heisei, so you may have seen many modifiers such as the last summer of Heisei.

In "My Neighbor Totoro", there are memories of the pastoral scenes of the Showa period after the beautification, the king of camphor trees, old houses, rice fields, country roads and buses. The movie is so good that it can't be more beautiful. From the neighbors working in agriculture to the teachers in the school, they are filled with the kindest side of human nature. They are considerate and help the moved Caobi family. The father also listened to his daughter as much as possible. Daughters of both big and small are optimistic by nature and can run and laugh. The only thing that is not so happy is the absent, hospitalized mother who is sick. However, the scene of the hospital is also full of light and exudes a warm and harmonious atmosphere.

One of the great feelings of rewatching is the story of the movie, it's really simple. The length of the film is so short, if the song is removed from the beginning and the end. The Caobi family moved to the village, and it felt like it was a matter of days and nights. The sisters mingle with the surroundings and saw Totoro hiding in the woods one after another. When the computer interrupted suddenly, they asked Totoro for help.

The order of appearance of the Totoro is from the little Totoro (will be invisible), the middle Totoro (carrying a bag) to the big Totoro who loves to sleep. If you look back at this movie, the audience will find that My Neighbor Totoro does not have many scenes. In the end, it was handed over to the summoned cat bus, over the mountains and the mountains, when the wind returns.

The image of a big chinchilla who loves to sleep will trigger different warm and belonging imaginations, from the appearance of his father sleeping to sleeping on his stomach. There is also the image of grinning and blowing, which has a lot of amusement. As for the cat bus, he always wore a smirk with a triumphant fangs, his eyes were like torches, and he didn't take it for granted.

In Miyazaki's imagination, there are dust elves in unoccupied houses, elven creatures that feed on acorns under the shelter of big trees, and cat buses that go through the countryside with their homes and hospitals. Without exception, they are invisible to adults.

Children can see Chinchilla, naturally innocent. In addition to creating a connection between mankind and nature, it is more because children can see the beautiful and lost things, whether it is the village itself or the happy family memories that have never existed before being beautified and refined. The role of a sick mother comes from Hayao Miyazaki's own experience - and does that little Western-style loft-style house really exist in post-war Japan?

The fear of "My Neighbor Totoro" ends with children's imagination of darkness (no empty house, deep in the forest, and rain in the dark). In fact, if you have a childhood experience of growing up in the countryside, it should be easy to understand the fear and feelings brought about by the darkness, which also triggers loneliness. Therefore, one needs light, warmth, family and crowds.

If you are entangled in the truth of the corn at the end, you will inevitably ignore the fairy tale color contained in the movie. This is not a growth story based on true logic. It can come from children's books, not just imagination.

In the process of watching, I also remembered Hou Xiaoxian's "Dongdong's Holiday". Many people may think that the story is simple and the time goes by, and they think that Ghibli's mascot movie is nothing. However, simple stories are actually the most difficult task to try to figure out the minds of children.

Hope to see more Ghibli

Although the story is very plain, it is very warm and healing. It is estimated that only innocent and kind children can see Totoro, because it is the god of love. It helped Xiaoyue find her sister. It was too warm and the Xiaomei inside was too naughty. But it's so cute!
