Overall feeling
The first John Hughes movie I saw was probably Home Alone (screenwriter). I remember that when I was a child, CCTV6 would always be released every time. If you want to know the name of John Hughes, you have to start with the breakfast club. However, in his many American campus youth films, it seems that spring is not a school day and is widely known by domestic netizens.

The overall style of the film is a funny light comedy. The main line is how Ferris skips class and enjoys this day's holiday. The story takes place within a day, and the overall structure is relatively loose.
The highlight of the first half of the story is the wit and courage between Ferris and the dean. He has set up various institutions to skip class, which can't help but remind people of Home Alone . Judging from the treacherous and mean image of the teaching director and the dull teacher in the school, it can be seen that the director really hates the school. As a cool kid in the school, Ferris has received various concerns and pursuits from his classmates. It should also be a place where the director hopes to find resonance among young audiences.
After ending the climax of the parade and carnival, the film gradually returned to the theme of growth. At the end, Ferris ended a day of absenteeism without any risk, and the dean of teaching finally paid off, adding Happy Ending to the story.
About the actors
The two male protagonists are very clean and handsome, but the one who impressed me most is Ferris's sister. I didn't expect that the little cute Baby in Dirty Dancing would appear as an annoying big sister in this film.

Related topics of growth
It is difficult for campus youth films to avoid the theme of growth. I think the ones who have gained the most "growth" in this film are good friends Karen and eldest sister Jenny. The three protagonists of this film are a couple and a friend. This combination is reminiscent of unreasonable rebellion . It just so happens that the story of that film also happened within a day. Although the two films are 30 years apart, the conflicts between the younger generation and their parents are indeed similar.
In the unreasonable rebellion , the little boy Plato lacked the care of his family. Depressed, he approached Jim and hoped to get similar asylum from him. The same situation seems to appear in the spring when it is not a school day . Although Karen has a good family background, he is the one who lacks family warmth the most among the three people shown. From the fear of the authority of the parents (especially the father) to the daring to take the responsibility of destroying the car, the director undoubtedly wants to arrange a kind of growth on him, although it is somewhat far-fetched (the change in mentality is basically driven by the soundtrack).
At the same time, the eldest sister also realized that the focus should be on herself in the communication with the gangsters in the police station. This is also consistent with the theme of the remarks when Ferris took a shower in the bathroom at the beginning of the film.
About the fourth wall
Breaking the fourth wall is nothing new, but for this campus theme, the director uses the male protagonist to directly talk to the young audience. The sense of resonance is indeed very strong.
About Ferris' parents
I really like the beginning of this film, especially the shot of my parents next to the bed. It reminds me of Bender’s funny "Isn't our son swell? Isn't life swell?" in the breakfast club .
So why does this kind of beautiful family bring conflicts between two generations? Perhaps the essence is the pressure caused by the high expectations of the parents.
About Ferrari
The red Ferrari that Ferris drove can definitely be regarded as an icon of 80s culture, but the Ferrari in the film is actually not a real Ferrari, but a copy. The reason is simple, I can't afford to fall a real car.
About the museum
My favorite clip is that of the three people visiting the Art Museum of Chicago. One woman and two men are making strange things in the museum, which is suspected of paying tribute to outsiders . The director uses composition to create the artwork for the second time, which is still very interesting. The couple kissed affectionately in front of the blue glass , and Karen and the child in "Sunday Afternoon in Big Bowl Island" looked at each other. What did Karen see, did she see herself?
About the mouth
The shot of the mouth is interesting, reminding of an early silent film.
