Marvel superhero movies have become popular over the years, and there is a phenomenon worth paying attention to-the so-called "official corruption". Fans of danmei works like to match some MCU heroes with "10 pairs", such as "shield iron" and "hammer base". Officials seem to have catered to this trend, adding "sugar" plots to exaggerate more "diversified" marketing topics.
The so-called "danmei" is almost directly used to refer to "male love" in the current Chinese context. The MCU officials bravely played the side ball, and the relevant audiences were overjoyed. And it is also the golden IP of fantasy movies under Disney. "Star Wars" recently launched a new work "Range Solo", which is called bold and unreasonable and peaking in terms of LGBTQ.
"Range Solo" created the wildest sexual imagination in the history of science fiction, which is worthy of everyone's taste.
Han Solo
In fact, "Range Solo", first of all, has created a new high in the "sexual meaning" of Star Wars movies.
Compared with other fantasy IPs, Star Wars IP has a major feature-restraint on "sex". "Bed scene" has always been a classic embellishment of literary and artistic creation, and fantasy movies are no exception. However, Star Wars movies have so far maintained "zero sex scenes", and even their derivative novels and comics have relatively avoided sexual descriptions. As we all know, Western novels often have glamorous and human sexual descriptions, but Star Wars novels have always been relatively clean.
The Star Wars movie with the most obvious sexual suggestion before is the finale of the True Story trilogy, "Return of the Jedi." After being captured by the gangster Jabba the Hutt, Princess Leia Organa was forced to put on a golden bikini with a chain around her neck. This is a typical image of slavery and sexual abuse. Jabba's disgusting worm size adds to the odor of heterochromia. But this scene turned into a feminist chapter in film history at the end. The seemingly weak bikini girl strangles the abuser to death with chains, which means breaking the shackles of abuse and sublimating into a heroine with both fighting power and beauty.
As for "Ranger Solo", the gameplay of its sexual meaning is very complicated. The first is a lot of kissing scenes. Some Star Wars fans joked that the kiss scene of "Range Solo" has exceeded the sum of the original trilogy and the new biography that has been released. From the perspective of a single movie, the number of kiss scenes in "Range Solo" may have surpassed the second episode of "The Attack of the Clones" in the second episode of Star Wars. "Attack of the Clones" tells how Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala fell in love. The length of the kiss is second to none in Star Wars movies. However, after Han Solo's "chill debut", Solo's father-in-law had to stand aside (Anakin's daughter Leia later became Solo's wife).
Secondly, "Range Solo" openly shows the plot of the gun. After Han Solo boarded the Millennium Falcon, he invited his long-lost girlfriend Qi'ra to "chat" first, then looked at the small bed in the dormitory with frivolous eyes, and continued to make "you understand" suggestions.
In contrast, when Han Solo embarrassed Leia in the second episode of "The Empire Strikes Back", he only made a bunch of nonsensical guns like "You can't live without me". The most charming "contact" is also Solo "wall dong" Leia, who successfully kissed the princess, and then was ruined by the eventful robot C-3PO. In "Attack of the Clones," Anakin once stroked Padme's sachet jade back with his hand. But apart from his eyes that exposed the meaning of "I want you", Anakin's other language and actions are not as bold as the future son-in-law in "Range Solo".
The third sexual gameplay of "Ranger Solo" is MCU-style selling corruption. After a life and death adventure, Han Solo enjoys a shower on Tobias Beckett's boat. At this time, an unexpected guest broke into the bathroom-Chewbacca, who looked like a gorilla. The related shots are fortunately immortal, first close-up of Solo's legs, then Chewie's shaggy feet and then burst into the audience's eyes. When the camera returned to the upper body of the two characters, Chewie's hand also rubbed against Solo, which was the ultimate zero-distance experience.
Well, it must be admitted that this period of selling corruption is not as good as the MCU, because the participants are not all handsome men like the MCU characters. But this also illustrates the transcendence of the concept of "Range Solo": in addition to exaggerating "corrupt", but also exaggerating "interracial". The MCU is not without cross-races, such as Xingjue and Kamora, and Xingjue's parents. But the integration of "corrupt" and "interracial" is a new field that MCU has never touched on. I haven't thought of similar cases in space operas that show multi-ethnic society.
Lando fell in love with robots
However, the most shocking sexual meaning of "Range Solo" does not fall on Han Solo, but is created by Lando Calrissian, the merry gambler.
Lando first appeared in "The Empire Strikes Back", and he likes to be coquettish and charming. His kisses when he first saw Leia were not courteous at all, but full of flirting. This led to the famous writer Timothy Zahn when he created the derivative star wars novel "Thrawn Trilogy" series, he also specifically mentioned that since Solo and Leia got married, Lando has become more etiquette when getting along with the princess.
In "Range Solo", Lando's iconic "flirting kisser" is here again, this time the object of courtesy is Qi'ra. The courtesy was nothing special on the surface, especially Lando's robot companion L3-37's later curse. "Have you finished flirting with others?" At the time, Lando wasn't chatting with Qi'ra, but Solo, who was ignorant of the "Kessel Run" route.
Do you think that "flirting" is just the robot using narrow words to describe the actions of her companions? No. When L3 chatted with Qi'ra privately, she said something that made Qi'ra dumbfounded: "I think Lando is in love with me."
Before the release of "Range Solo", the screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan and Lando actor Donald Glover both mentioned that Lando is a "Pansexual." There are so many different words in the definition of sexual orientation in Western society, so that we all thought at first that "pansexuals" just meant that Lando may have a homosexual tendency. Unexpectedly, when the plot progressed to L3 and said this sentence, the true meaning of pan-sexuality was revealed: Lando started human-computer love!
Human-computer love is not new in science fiction movies, but the image of a robot is usually a "bionic person", and its face and body are no different from ordinary humans. However, L3 is a complete machine shape, and the object of Lando's love is such a "machine" robot from appearance to essence.
If it is purely "spiritual attachment", then the hat of "sexuality" cannot be deducted into this plot. But then Qi'ra asked L3 meaningfully: "How to do it?" L3 said, "You can do it." At this time, Qi'ra showed a comprehensive smile. From the lines to the expression of the character's demeanor, they are full of rich external interpretation. So far, "sexual meaning" is no longer a statement made out of nothing. In other words, from the early publicity mentioning "pansexuality" to the "connotation" dialogue between L3 and Qi'ra in the feature film, they all seem to imply in one direction: Lando had acted with L3.
What is the orientation of robot L3?
To put it vulgarly, "fuck robot" is a taboo topic. But with regard to the LGBTQ breakthrough of Ranger Solo, I haven't talked about the most critical point.
Let's return to the point of "flirting" first. Lando introduced Kessel Run to Solo. Why does L3 use "flirting" to describe his behavior?
One possible explanation is that Lando "flirts" frequently and L3 understands his old problems. And this kind of "flirting", there is no gender perspective.
This explanation is again linked to "pansexuality". We think Lando's pansexuality refers to human-computer love. But for a deeper understanding, Lando's "pan" is truly pan, which can be aimed at robots, humans, the opposite sex, or the same sex.
If the evidence for Lando’s homosexuality is considered insufficient, I will cite one of the boldest scenarios as evidence. Lando told the people involved in Kessel Run that in order to keep his ship, he locked it up. Then came to the cage where the ship was locked, a robotic arm was extended from the chest and abdomen of L3, and a hole was removed from the cage with welding.
Before the soldering, L3 ordered other people to "not be allowed to look at her", which seemed to be a shameful scene. Also take a look at the position where the robotic arm extends, the shape of the robotic arm...
Finally, look at this pose in the picture below.
This "unlocking" plot is basically a scene that shows how robots mate! The more surprising discovery is that L3 is female in terms of gender positioning, but in this scene, her gestures are closer to men's behavior in sexual behavior!
L3 said to Qi'ra, "You can do it." Inferring from the unlocking scene, is it that L3 and Lando's "doing" is that L3 plays a male role?
If this conjecture is true, then the relationship between Lando and L3 has almost reached the level of "18+ books", and serious science fiction films dare not play this kind of content at all. The level of contraindications includes the following elements:
1. Lando's relationship with the machine is a kind of fetish.
2. The role of L3 is female, but it is a kind of transsexualism to have a relationship with Lando in a male way.
3. When Lando has a relationship with L3, L3 is allowed to adopt a male approach, that is, Lando accepts homosexuality.
That's right, only "shocking the world" can describe this relationship between Lando and L3.
Concluding remarks
To be honest, any of the points mentioned above, if understood alone, cannot fully prove that Lando and L3 are the relationship I am describing now. But looking at all the doubts together, I can't think that the sexual meaning of these bridge segments is purely "speculation" by the author.
There are three major controversies just to unlock this paragraph. First of all, in terms of plot development or characterization, is this scene necessary? Then, why does L3 emphasize "privacy"? Finally, the most critical point, why does the lens show the posture of L3 unlocking like the picture above?
In my opinion, if these three places are not used to express taboo topics, they are basically useless pens with little reserved value.
Reminiscent of the film’s creator’s early promotion of Lando’s pansexual image, the dialogue between L3 and Qi’ra vaguely involves the details of Lando’s relationship with the robot. To say that unlocking has no sexual meaning, it’s a bit of a concealment.
Acknowledging the sexual meaning of the unlocking scene can introduce the "revolutionary" of the relationship between Lando and L3.
As a fan of Star Wars, I am satisfied with the quality of Solo Ranger. However, the film's domestic box office is too sluggish, and Star Wars fans around them have all made their own ingenuity to "Amway" this work to people around them. Everyone promotes the film from the perspectives of "non-Star Wars fans can understand", "a lively space cowboy film", and even use the method of rewarding forwarding to increase the popularity of the film, which is a gratifying "tap water" operation. Here I choose to talk and concoct topics. Regardless of whether you laugh at this article, think carefully, or swear, the ultimate goal is actually to tell everyone that "Range Solo" is not so ugly. Friends who haven't watched a movie yet, might as well go to the theater to have fun.
