What adaptations did "Annihilation" make to the original work?

There are still a lot of changes, I understand it is to make it easier for the audience to understand and look better. Just say a few. 1. The mutation in the novel is not caused by the comet hitting the lighthouse, but when a "fragment" mixed into the lens during the manufacture of the lighthouse lens set is artificially chiseled out and contaminated with the human body. 2. The key figure of the lighthouse administrator Thor is completely ignored. 3. There are old lighthouses and underground towers in the original work, and there are "creepers" guarding "light spots" in the underground towers. 4. The survey team is four people, and the movie becomes five people. 5. More than one person came back from the previous team. The heroine's husband was just one of them, and all of them died of cancer instead of being saved in the movie. 6. There is no mention of hypnosis in the movie, nor the "black box" alarm (actually a hypnotic device), which is a very important item in the novel. 7. The description of the appearance of the x area in the novel only has a sense of light at the entrance, while other places look no different from ordinary forest swamps, but in fact it is not the landscape at all, or it is a huge hemispherical curved screen. High-resolution display. 8. There is no mention in the movie that the x area can only be entered by the entrance. (The shape of the door is intertwined with light to guide outsiders to enter. This is a very important detail and an important evidence for judging the nature of the x area.) 9. There is no Thor, no creepers, and no underground towers. Naturally, a series of live moss is used The weird words written down are gone. 10. The diaries of the previous team members were stacked on the bottom of the lighthouse, and the movie was replaced by a data card. In fact, the content of those diaries is not too important, the important thing is where they are stacked and who they belong to.

There are so many changes, I only picked the bigger ones. After this change, the movie will no longer have the "god" of the novel. It may be to take care of audiences of all ages. After all, the copy is much easier to understand than the particle reconstruction.

Friends who are interested can check out my book review under "Southern Trilogy". Without the latter two, the first annihilation is a boring work that digs pits to collapse.

Another important point is that the name of the first novel is annihilation. This word comes from the "keyword" used by psychologists for hypnosis. When a psychologist shouts "annihilation" to a hypnotized object, it is equivalent to ordering her to commit suicide.

This year's best (both hard and soft) science fiction films are locked in advance. The plot of a classic Chinese divine comedy can be summed up: who are you, who are you, who are you tonight, who is who you are, I am willing to do it, singing, singing, dancing, dancing in the world is so beautiful, Saturdays and Sundays do not have to get up too early. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.

Annihilation quotes

  • Lena: The mutations were subtle at 1st; more extreme as we got closer to the lighthouse. Corruptions of form. Duplicates of form.

    Lomax: Duplicates?

Lena: [She looks at the tattoo on her arm & lifts her arm up] Echoes.

Lomax: Is it possible these were hallucinations?

Lena: I wondered that myself... but they were shared among all of us. It was dreamlike.

    Lomax: Nightmarish?

Lena: Not always. Sometimes it was beautiful.

[the movie then cuts back in time to show beautiful translucent single-tailed wormfish swimming alongside double-tailed duplicates. Lena is in a canoe on a swamp located quite near to a corpse that bears the same tattoo as Lena]

    Lena: Oww. Ow.

[She clutches her arm - there is no tattoo yet. However, a dark blue mark has appeared at the same place on her arm]

    Cass Sheppard: You're hurt?

Lena: It's just a bruise. I must have gotten that from the gator.

  • Dr Ventress: It's not like us... it's unlike us. I don't know what it wants, or if it wants, but it'll grow until it encompasses everything. Our bodies and our minds will be fragmented into their smallest parts until not one part remains... Annihilation.
