Gilmour's Use of Colors in "Hellboy"

Gilmour del Toro has always been a not-so-loud name in China, which seems a bit unfair-considering his large number of exquisite and high-quality works.
In comparison, his friend and colleague James Cameron is more famous in China, mostly thanks to the gift of "Avatar". After all, for the current young moviegoers, the 3D visual stimulation brought by "Avatar" in 2008 will definitely make them remember for a lifetime. From this perspective, "Avatar" and his director card Mellon is the milestone and founder of the continuous IMAX3D boom. Cameron’s works are always like this: "The Abyss" and "Terminator" each continuously stimulate the audience's dull eyeballs.

Compared with Cameron's drastic hard power special effects, Gilmour's works are more "exquisite". He prefers to shape those unique characters and build a matching expression context. Every step of his work is full of fatal beauty, which is especially loved by yuppies with unique tastes for movie watching.

As one of the "Mexico Three Great" in the film industry, every picture under his lens carries the unique clarity of the rainforest. My vocabulary is limited, it is difficult to accurately describe this feeling, let's call it "wet reality"! In fact, in terms of visual effects, whether it is "Hellboy", "Pan's Labyrinth" or "Pacific Rim", Gilmour has proven his extraordinary ability to lift heavy weights.

Gilmour admits in his book that "Hellboy" is one of his favorite works and his most dedicated work (including his sequel "Hellboy II: The Golden Legion"). If you pull the film carefully, then his style will slowly be exposed in front of your eyes. In addition to the director's peculiar imagination and Lang Pullman, his use of color is particularly eye-catching and the effect is particularly obvious.

In this film, he continued the good habit of "Blade Warrior II": the color of the film mainly uses the three primary colors of red, yellow and blue.

At the beginning, a small Scottish island was pouring rain, lightning and thunder, and the faint blue enveloped the whole scene. Professor Bloom, played by John Hurt, followed a group of US commando soldiers and was ordered to investigate the island. It turned out that the Nazi leader masked man and the evil archmage bald man were plotting to open the portal to summon the ancient evil god. Because it is a memory with lingering fears, the color must be cool, and the oppressive mystery brought by blue perfectly fits the absurd horror of the Nazis and the evil gods. For the audience who desperately need to enter the state at the beginning of the film, blue is the perfect choice-heavy rain, a dusty past, a sense of mystery, everything that should be there, just... that

's right! The worst is our protagonist-Hellboy. When the Nazi conspiracy seemed to have been defeated, the portal was destroyed...Of course the story could not end like this. A weird creature appeared in front of us, but it was not disgusting at all: big eyes, a thin monkey-like body, and of course a large stone right hand that was out of proportion to its size. His whole body of red in a blue hue declares to us: I am the protagonist! The finishing touch, wonderful!

Of course, the main characters from the film conform to this principle. Of course Hellboy is red, the sensitive and elegant murloc played by Doug Jones is blue, then Liz... well, the yellow of the flame seems to make sense too!

Observe carefully:
1. When the protagonist and a group of people investigate the McCann Museum, the entire city’s exterior scene uses yellow color. After the bald devil appears, a light flashes from the blue window behind him, and the bald devil’s black dress is embellished with blue and purple. .

2. When Liz and Agent Mason talked about relationship issues, the picture turned into a weird yellow-green.

3. Before the Hellboy was persuaded by the bald demon to open the gate of summoning, the whole picture was cold blue in Siberia, and after it was opened, it was reflected in light red. After the baron wakes up and closes the portal, the picture returns to cold blue.

4. In the end, the blood of the "Cthulhu" monster is bright blue after being blown up! !
The following law (I guessed it): A color represents a power, or a trait. When the color collision is particularly eye-catching, it means that there will be conflicts in this scene; and the encounter of those colors that can be merged often represents the tortuous development of the plot...
above!

Created the background material of a new superhero movie. Most of the first part shows the background of the protagonist, which is very attractive. The latter part of the movie is long and the boss is rushed (top-heavy, unfinished)... I hope that our country is old. If modern commercial elements can be added to mythological stories, they will be more in line with modern society, so that they can go abroad and bring ancient Chinese myths to life...

Xiaohong, what are you here for? I thought the masked man was the protagonist, dog girl...
