Replay notes-Mummy 1+2

I started to watch various movies again. After thinking about it, I still made a little record in the "movie review" under the movie, which is convenient for searching and reviewing, and is only for personal use. All evaluations are "recommended".

Because the new version is so terrible, I was thinking about seeing how good the past films are.
In fact, this movie is the kind Ebert said, and the process of watching it is pretty good, but it is the kind of movie that you have watched once you have watched it. Besides, Mummy 1 is not the kind of classic and good-looking commercial film, 2 is better.
I commented on the new version and used the sentence "Mummy should be a story system of modern conflicts, history, grievances, emotional entanglements, and occasional small humorous entanglements in archaeological tombs." After rewatching 1 and 2, I found that this concept was brought to me by these two parts.
In fact, the new version also has certain similar discussions, but where are the differences?
The male and female protagonists of 1 and 2 have their own charms and chemical reactions. The mummies have the ability and tricks. The scenes are mainly near the tombs, or libraries, museums, manors, and various institutions full of antique atmosphere. The tension in the fight is multiplied, and I am afraid of falling (supported by this back-to-back world atmosphere, everywhere). The new version is mixed with modern warfare. I don't know where it is in the underground and the jungle, but it is not suitable for this kind of film. And the mummy's ability, or the various monsters (scarabs, tree monsters, and scorpion kings) that appear, all have their own abilities and functions. The small details of the characters are particularly ulterior. In times of crisis, the protagonist’s supporting role gags, fears, nervousness, and humor. The protagonist is full of charm. He is the kind of guy who is gentle and passionate while Kong Wu is powerful and humorous from time to time to ridicule his crisis situation. It's fun. The small props and tricks are all matched with the purpose, and the character of the character matches the story. There is also the special charm of the desert black hair guarding the nation. The lettering on his face is like the Turkish goalkeeper of the 2002 World Cup. The knife is also very artistic. With the addition of the small spaceship, the various inheritance tricks that are continued in the first and second installments (collapse of dominoes, sandstorms or chasing by water storms), the new characters (sons, space crews, scorpion kings) also have their own charms.
Especially 2, when I re-watched it, I found that I must have watched this movie in junior high school. The rhythm was super good. When I watched it, I could remember what was going on afterwards, which also established my criteria for judging commercial blockbusters. Regrettably, none of the later ordinary commercial blockbusters (Marvel, and some commercial blockbusters directed by non-authors) can achieve the balance of Mummy 2. Every aspect and every role are basically very relaxed. The coexistence of degrees in that world. There is a new trick and new scene in 5-10 minutes. It is intentional and reasonable, and there is tension and small humor to watch. (For example, the dirty toilets on the train, and the small model of the desert landscape made by the son who guided his parents to follow up. They are all impressive and I feel that the intention behind it is also integrated with the whole world setting)
Kind of watching the rhythm and pleasure of Indiana Jones.
Of course, there is also a special charm, that is, the protagonist will ridicule the setting of the story. In the face of unreasonable and extraordinary things, the protagonist will tease and ridicule, as if empathizing with the audience. This is much better than not explaining and directly accepting the story setting.
It would be nice if the creators had been filming 3 parts in a row.

Mummy 1+2 is a movie I never thought of rewatching, nor is it a classic. It has rarely been mentioned for so many years. In those years, there were many commercial blockbusters of this level, and the audience felt that they were just as they should be. In less than 20 years, Hollywood has been unable to produce such a work.

The Mummy Returns quotes

  • Alex: Hey! The Book of the Dead!

Meela: What a bright little child. Your mother must be missing you terribly. If you wish to see her again, you'd better behave.

Alex: Lady, I don't behave for my parents. What makes you think I'm going to do it for you?

    Lock-Nah: Silence!

Meela: Because your parents wouldn't slip poisonous snakes into your bed...

    [kisses Alex on the cheek]

    Meela: ...while you were sleeping.

  • Rick: [to Ardeth Bay on seeing Imhotep's resurrection] You know, a couple of years ago this would have seemed really strange to me.
