Faith, myth and original sin

Throughout the story, please be careful if you don’t want to step on thunder!

Before you start, I must admit that for those who don’t like Ridley Scott’s style, or have never seen Alien I and Blade Runner, and only watched Ghost Warriors , Prometheus is destined not to be liked by them. If you want an action blockbuster that is as refreshing and interesting as the Avengers or the Dark Knight series, it is also destined not to be your favorite. Because Ridley Scott's science fiction films are always too stylized and pay more attention to symbolism than his other works. He always likes to put a lot of metaphors, myths, codes, and the characters in his science fiction world are more like generalizations of a certain ethnic group, rather than mere role modeling.

Blade Runner is the "debate between the creator and the created" that is a combination of codes and myths. In terms of character creation, Yi Xian Yi deliberately divides characters into various classes, creates a relationship between employers and labor, and adds a lot of sexual cues. These are the most criticized places when these two films were called "classic masterpieces" by later generations when they were first released. Ridley Scott’s science fiction films have always been LOVE IT OR HATE IT. Those who like to refer to settings, worldviews and metaphors will be intoxicated with the joy of research and analysis. If you just want the joy of watching a movie or be frightened, you will end up scolding WTF.

Prometheus is the same. Should I say that I am very thankful that he did not abandon this "tradition"? The focus of this film from beginning to end is not on the alien, but on the relationship between the "creator" and the "created". The topic of this film is closer to Blade Runner, which is the part that makes me very happy.

The

title of the film is Prometheus, and of course it is not just the relationship between the spaceship called Prometheus. The real Prometheus is the giant race of "Jockey" that appears in the beginning of the movie (considering that not everyone has seen the setting information of the alien series, I will call it a giant below). The film begins with an alien giant left on the earth. He looks sadly at the spaceship that has left, and drinks the poison that will shatter himself. He does not know that his genes have penetrated into the tiny cells of earth creatures, so he Become the source of mankind.

This paragraph completely quotes the setting of Prometheus in Greek mythology. In Greek mythology, humans were created by the Titan prophet Prometheus. He taught human knowledge and even stole fire for human use, thus becoming a sinner. In this film, humans are the descendants of a giant tribe that was executed. After human beings are sinners outside of their grand cosmic plan, the earth should not have such a highly intelligent race, or even possess the same genes as the "planner," so it should be eliminated. This is why the giants in the film insist on bringing these attacking organisms (alien predecessors) back to earth.

In fact, this whole story is similar to the setting of the Garden of Eden in Genesis. The ancestors of mankind were guilty and exiled from the temple. For generations to come, they were burdened with these sins, seeking answers and seeking ways to return to God.

Compared with Alien One, the characters in this film do not have such a strong relationship between upper and lower, but all important characters are seeking answers from the creator. Whether it was the purpose of the heroine Elizabeth and his boyfriend Charlie, Miss Vickers who followed her father all the way but couldn't be recognized, or the owner of the Welland company who wanted to live forever, the final answer made them lost.

When the heroine finally embarks on the road to find a solution, the audience will know that it is nothing after all, because the beginning of the film frankly admits that human beings were not created intentionally. Just like the last alien born, it is also a new creature created by accidentally combining with the giant tribe. It can even be said that the alien is the product of incest, born by the combination of the creator and the created. After going around a large circle, Lao Lei is a theist after all. Above the giants, there must be "gods" who truly dominate these boundless destinies, and destiny itself cannot be touched by humans with high technology.

The scene at the end is the space warship leaving the heroine and the alien species left behind. Although many people think this is a hint that there is a sequel, I think the director wants to use the ending and the title giants to leave behind the humans. Gene echoes. The birth of aliens will cause the destruction of other species in the universe (even the creator itself). Isn’t this similar to the way humans treat other creatures on the earth? Although this part of the film only ends, I think these extended thoughts are The most pleasant place to watch Ridley Scott's science fiction works.

My expectation for the role of David is not only because of his inhuman uniqueness, or because he is performed by Fassy (although not very convincing), but because of the importance of the existence of the robot in Alien and the Ridley of Blade Runner Scott's wonderful debate on the relationship between humans and artificial humans.

David's role is very special. His beliefs (or what he focuses on) are constantly changing within two hours. When he was alone in the cabin, he imitated humans, liked human movies, and dyed his hair to look like an ideal human. However, after getting along with other humans, he seems to begin to feel that he is much higher than humans. When Charlie jokingly said, "They made you look like a human being," David replied that he didn't think he was like him, and there was already a change in his opinion.

After entering the "temple" of the giants, apart from performing his "real mission", David also used Charlie as a human experiment. I don't think David's mischievous behavior has no trajectory. At this time, he has realized that he is a species higher than human beings. When Charlie told him, "We created you because we can," it was actually quite ironic, because David also planted genes into Charlie because he could. Throughout the film, David is like a child who learns to absorb and converts quickly. When he sees all the miracles made by the giants, he also realizes that even the "father" who created him does not Even higher than himself, he can easily say to Elizabeth, "That way, I will be free." "Don't all children want their parents to die?"

I really like when the giant touches David's head to make him smile like a child. David's expression seemed to be complimenting him for being higher than human and gaining recognition. He didn't expect to be headshot in the next second. Therefore, David was willing to help Elizabeth after being denied, and even left tears of joy when he knew that Elizabeth was still alive. I think this is a great arrangement.

However, because I have always had the phrase "I envy the aliens, they are perfect existence" that I have always said to the alien robots. "Human creation of David" = "Giant creation of aliens" has always been a proposition that can be used for me, allowing my imagination of the existence and influence of the role of David to expand infinitely. In the end, the action of the character did not exceed what I had imagined. Many, so a little disappointed. But this is just a matter of personal expectations too high. After all, the movie theme is not there.

For people all over the world who like Ridley Scott's sci-fi works, perhaps we are also seeking answers from the "creator" Ridley Scott, just like the heroine in the film. Longing for him to finish that unfinished but amazingly magical story. Or, like me, I hope to see a better debate between the creator and the created after Blade Runner. And Lao Lei did give us an answer. It may be a far cry from the "alien series of killing thrillers" that many people are looking forward to. However, I am glad that he still maintains the similar propositional style of his sci-fi films. This style is not due to film technology. Go high and change. He did not make a story that Hollywood would like, but continued to include his usual metaphors and personal philosophy. As a fan of Raleigh's sci-fi works, I am very pleased.

In addition, as an alien prequel, Ridley Scott still put a lot of classic bridges that alien fans would like, such as masks corroded, people infected, and of course the most classic pregnancy, broken belly (caesarean). The caesarean section is very horrible, even a guy like me who has been paralyzed by the abnormal shape will still be shocked. Alien fans should be as happy as I am to see the ferocity of the white little alien baby and the birth of the final alien.

The visual effects part fully shows the style of the master. From the spaceship to the temple, the gravel rainstorm, and the final explosion of the jade and stone, every scene is very convincing. Compared with the Avengers, you can immediately see the difference in realism between live shooting and green screen post-production. The size and details of props, costumes, etc. are very delicate. And 3D is also very good, many pictures can be seen to be made for 3D, rather than insisting on adding 3D later.

However, there are still some things that will disappoint me. For example, in the case of heterogeneous infection, I originally expected a larger scale infection. David’s "seeding" experiment affected more people. However, it is obvious that the director deliberately did not want the film to become A story of collective death in a secret room like Alien One. As for the alien fans who have known the relationship between aliens and giants for a long time, the whole story can be guessed at all times.

Although the film ends with the melancholy of the suitor like Blade Runner, the depth and influence on the audience are obviously not as good as Blade Runner. I personally think that this film will expand the pattern that the alien could not be made in the past, but it does not. Reach the impact of Blade Runner.

Overall, I think the plot is very smooth, of course, I can also imagine that many people will yell at the characters or have no beginning or end (even if I think it is quite beginning and ending). But what makes me unacceptable is that Elizabeth already knows that David is the culprit who killed her boyfriend, and is still willing to continue searching with him. Although it was because of her firm belief and her boyfriend's last wish, it was unconvincing to accept it easily without any struggle. Of course, I had to do it because of the lack of space, but the shortcomings are the shortcomings. And David knows that there are other spaceships. This setting seems reasonable at first glance, but there is no mention or any hint in the previous plot. For me, this is an untenable arrangement.

Although I have picked some problems, overall it is worth going into the theater to watch 3D and enjoy visually stunning movies. Fassy performed brilliantly again. Every little action is amazing. It is definitely one of my favorite performances in all of his works. The heroine Noomi is also very good, although there is no unique setting like David, but the performance is not lost to David's brilliance. Charlize Theron does not have many roles but is very good.

Finally, I still want to hack to death the entertainment reporter of a certain newspaper who thundered the caesarean section.

6/10 to add a short paragraph:

"People think that the process of creation is praise, and think of it very beautifully. Therefore, after being abandoned, they feel lost and want to find answers. But if the creation itself has no purpose, it is even accidental or evil Yes, how could there be an answer."

This is what my brother underneath wrote after reading it. I feel that it is very close to the proposition of the film and I will share it with you.

    A little disappointed

The 3D effect is great, the visual effects are beautiful, grand and atmospheric, and the art and horror atmosphere are well created. I don't understand the story very well, the theme is too grand, involving propositions such as the origin of human beings and the origin of the origin, I feel that the director wants to talk about a lot of things but many aspects are not clear, maybe it is to pave the way for the next part, looking forward to the second Ministry has a perfect explanation! PS: The deletion is quite smooth this time. It only deleted for more than a minute. There is progress in a certain game.

Prometheus quotes

  • Young Shaw: [on the ship, Prometheus, David checks on the crew who are in hypersleep, he gazes upon Shaw and sees what she's dreaming of, which is from her childhood when she is with her father in a foreign land looking at a funeral procession] What happened to that man?

    Shaw's Father: He died.

Young Shaw: Why aren't you helping them?

Shaw's Father: They don't want my help. Their God is different than ours.

Young Shaw: Why did he die?

Shaw's Father: Sooner or later everyone does.

    Young Shaw: Like mommy?

    Shaw's Father: Like mommy.

Young Shaw: Where do they go?

Shaw's Father: Everyone has their own word; heaven, paradise. Whatever it's called, it's someplace beautiful.

Young Shaw: How do you know it's beautiful?

Shaw's Father: Cause that's what I choose to believe. What do you believe, darling?

[at that point David comes out of watching he dream]

  • Elizabeth Shaw: [to the Engineer] Why do you hate us?
