Born to death "The Nice Guys" The Nice Guys

This is Los Angeles in 1977. Jackson (Russell Crowe) and Holland (Ryan Gosling) are two holidaymakers. The private detectives cooperate and take Holly, Holly's daughter, to find a missing girl Amelia (Margaret Qualley).

This is the United States in the 1970s, and Detroit's automobile industry is facing the most severe challenge in its history. People protested against the smog caused by cars, coupled with the policies of oil exporting countries to reduce exports, the United States, who lives on the wheels of cars, has long queues in front of gas stations.

(Spoiler)

Amelia is a mysterious girl, and many people look for her everywhere but never show her face. Jackson and Holland heard her whereabouts from a group of protesters. She is making a movie that is said to be a tertiary film. They keep tracking and pursuing. It turned out that the producer’s house had been burned, and other people related to the film had died. They met Judith (Kim Basinger) who was the mother of Amelia, a Justice Department official. She told them that Amelia refused to advise and went to shoot a tertiary film, so she hoped to get her back as soon as possible.

In the end they found Amelia after a lot of effort, only to realize that she and her companions were filming a conspiracy that exposed the American auto industry's attempt to bribe the government to ensure that they could continue to produce fuel-consuming and polluting cars. And her own biological mother was the inside line of the auto industry in the government, so she was hunted down by the gang hired by the auto industry in an attempt to kill her. The gangster found them and killed Amelia.

In order to avenge Amelia, Jackson and Holland found her film after many difficulties, defeated the killer sent by the gang, and finally exposed the despicable behavior of the auto industry.

The film was well received in Cannes and the United States. Holly's complaints about her father and the bickering between the two detectives are all humorous, and they are basically non-sexy, which is still rare in today's movies (there may be a relationship with a daughter by her side). Neither of them is a perfect person. Jackson is arrogant and accustomed to punching and fighting. Heland drinks and smokes but is good at thinking. But they still distinguish between good and evil. Dare to fight evil forces.

The background story is a bit old-fashioned, and small characters fight against big companies. This is a favorite theme of movies. The United States was in turbulent times at that time. In the early 1970s, the United States continued to demonstrate against the Vietnam War, and hippies became fashionable. In addition, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) raised oil prices and reduced production, which dealt a big blow to European and American automobile companies. Although it was coming to an end at that time, the aftermath still exists. In addition, consumer interest lawyer Ralph Nader "Ralph Nader" (who was the presidential candidate of the Green Party in 2000, which affected Al Gore's election) has also continued to challenge the auto industry. The poor car industry boss is not enterprising and lacks foresight. As Horland said at the end, the United States has lost its leading position in the auto industry. Japanese cars entered the American market violently, and the three major auto companies continued to fight desperately for survival until today.

Director Shane Black's directorial works include "Little Thieves, Beauties, and Detectives" "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)" and "Iron Man 3" and "Iron Man 3 (2013)".

Russell Crowe first won an Oscar nomination in "The Insider" (1999), then won the 2001 Oscar actor with "Gladiator" Gladiator, and then in "A Beautiful Mind (2001)" Nominated for an Oscar. I don’t do this now, but I also filmed "The Water Diviner" (2014) in the previous two years (see my blog post "The Water Diviner").

Ryan Gosling was nominated for an Oscar in "Half Nelson" (2006). Also participated in "The Big Short" "The Big Short" (2015) (see my blog "Do not do "Big Short")
