Think spicy, make gentle

The original unabridged version of Southern Metropolis published on February 25.

In December 2011, a series called "Black Mirror" was broadcast on the BBC, which aroused the interest of domestic audiences. This is another series after "Downton Abbey" British dramas have attracted attention in China. However, the difference is that the latter has been tortuously initiated after the US Emmy Award blessing, and the former has not yet been favored in the United States on the other side of the ocean. In China, many fans give this program a high level of evaluation. The reputation is one-to-one, and one-to-one. Although it is not a sensation, it has become a small-scale consensus. So, what exactly is "Black Mirror"?

Producer Charlie Brooker said, "Black Mirror" is what can be seen on every wall, every desk, every palm, cold and shiny, TV, display and smartphone. Such an explanation of course made us understand the theme of this set of skits: what it ridicules and retaliates is the pervasive way of spreading in our daily lives and the spiritual shackles that we are more and more unable to let go. The three-episode three-hour structure is also the most common standard for short plays in British dramas. The British have a cleaner industrial standard than the Americans, and they never procrastinate. Three or six episodes are their usual structure for laying out stories.

The three episodes selected in the series have different plot modes, and the producer claims that it is because of the influence of the American drama "The Twilight Zone". The latter is of course advertised as an American drama known for its weirdness and distortion. Each episode has a story, and the worldview setting is different, and even the entire shooting team can be different. "Black Mirror" can be said to nail the TV, the Internet, and the smart phone to the shelf, one by one, one by one. In the first episode, the incompetence of the British government and the greed of the public media were completely exposed. At the same time, those who were shot at the same time were indispensable for the audience sitting in front of the TV. Because the disgusting buzzing for a long time can't drive them away, and the extremely violent and inhuman content can't drive them away. In the end, they just use this tragedy as a show to get satisfaction and pleasure. At the same time, they were kidnapped. The princess wandered in an uninhabited neighborhood, but no one called the police or helped. In the second episode, another world was constructed to allude to the relationship between the Internet and people. In this world, the relationship between people is virtualized. They no longer care about each other. In the end, people's will is dominated by other people's moments of pleasure. The third episode is the third world. People store all their experiences, but life and feelings have not become easier and happier.

In terms of production investment and plot arrangement, "Black Mirror" is not inaccurate. It is a typical British production. Every aspect is as drip-proof as possible, and there is no overly prominent gimmick. It is a steady work. But compared to the producer's favorite "The Twilight Zone", "Black Mirror" is obviously flattering and gentle. The former is not based on satire and criticism. The core of the drama is the amazing imagination and unstoppable words. The protagonist may not be able to get a good ending. "Black Mirror" deals with the main storyline in a calmer manner. The synopsis seems crazy, but it is actually quite literary and has a limited crazy index. Even compared to the BBC's own work "Psychoville" some time ago, "Black Mirror" is very gentle. "Psychoville" does not create another world, but uses our reality as the background, adding bizarre characters to form a distinct drama. At this point, "Black Mirror" has to admit defeat, because its drama is ordinary. Although the background setting is new, these are the dramatic conflicts that can be perfectly completed even in the ordinary world, and the strength is compromised.

I'm afraid it's most appropriate to use the word "literary and art" to define it. "Black Mirror" has a high degree of conception and production, but in the end it was displayed in a gentle way, which is contrary to the usual characteristics of the British. This does not mean the lack of its British color. In the recent ups and downs in the UK, the impact of communication on people's lives and souls is obviously the most needed and most urgent proposition. In the end, such a satirical skit came to our vision by relying on the mass communication it despised. Such an ending is more pungent than the plot itself.

  • Kenny: [sobbing] They filmed me.

    Hector: Filmed you...

    Kenny: Through my computer camera.

    Hector: What, like, filmed you?

Kenny: Yeah, like, you know, doing it.

    Hector: Like sex?

Kenny: No. Like, you... you know.

Hector: Jerking off. Jerking off to porn or something? Well, everyone does that. The fucking pope probably does that.
