Life is a theatre. Everything is a fake. I
saw it for the second time and thought it was 4 stars. The lines are great!
"Indeed, he is a man who lives purely on the surface, refusing all commitment or responsibility, immature for all his cocksureness, his life all the more a chaos for the fact that he doesn't recognize it as such; a man who relies above all on the exterior trappings of modern civilization."
"As the center (as in Psycho and Vertigo) is a vacuum, an absurdity, a nonexistent person."
screenplay Ernest Lehman
male lead Cary Grant-Roger O. Thornhill, George Kaplan
male With James Mason-Philip Vandamm
heroine Eva Marie Saint-Eve Kendall
Title design: Saul Bass (also Psycho, Vertigo)

"You gentlemen men aren't really trying to kill my son, are you?"
"It's going to be a long night, and I don't particularly like the book I've started... know what I mean?"
" When I was a little boy, I wouldn't even let my mother undress me." "Well, you're a big boy now."
"Who are you kidding? You have no feelings to hurt."
"Has anyone ever told you that you overplay your various roles rather severely, Mr. Kaplan? First you're the outraged Madison Avenue man who claims he's been mistaken for someone else. Then you play a fugitive from justice, supposedly trying to clear his name of a crime he knows he didn't commit. And now you play the peevish lover, stung by jealousy and betrayal. Seems to me you fellows could stand a little less training from the FBI and a little more from the Actors Studio."
"That treacherous little tramp."
"Apparently the only performance that's going to satisfy you is when I play dead."
"your very next role. You'll be quite convincing, I assure you."
"I had nothing to do that weekend , so I decided to fall in love."
"What's wrong with men like me?" "They don't believe in marriage."
"I may go back to hating you: it was more fun." "He is meant to be critically wounded." "I never felt more alive ."
"My wives divorced me... I think they said I let too dull a life."
